What a horrible loss. Kicker blew it, but he apparently was missing bag in Thursday's practice, and Coach Blue didn't think it a good idea to go to the backup after a few more in the game, thus likely destroying the kid's confidence completely.

D kept them in game, two 4th and short stops that were huge, but fell and couldn't gt back up the last minute. O went back to horribility after first quarter.

It was a lovely day for a college football game, enjoyed by my 7 year old. Too bad he had to watch it.

You could tell three plays in the kids had quit on the coaches. It's over. The Jeff Hathaway era finally will conclude when the new admin fires PP and his awful staff hopefully this weekend before a bye week.

I wrote this in a Uconn board but I confirmed Uconn does not audible. Ever. QB has no chance to change a play or a protection at the line. Think about that. My lical high school team audibles.

been outscored in the second half of games 53-0 since the third quarter of the Buffalo game. LOL

no one railed against this hire more than me but even this has eclipsed my worse-case. the team has completely quit on the staff. The new AD should really just fire PP and DeLeone now, let brown coach and start a search for a real coach now instead of waiting until December when BC and others will be looking

Ahem. Not to nitpick, but I think I railed harder and sooner and more.

The game is Friday night, Doug ... does that make a difference in your plans?

I started watching after the half. same old stuff. did Pitt not even show up? i didn't even watch til the end as I figured Pitt would tie and win in OT, but read this am that PP overruled GDL on a third down call (from a run up the middle to a pass) that iced the game basically. lolol.

let's hope a win doesn't alter any plans to ice this staff

I have no faith that UConn gets this done because -

1) Calhoun is gone
2) They have imploded their football program under Pasqualoni
3) They have new and not particularly connected AD and President

One thing that I think helps is Swoffords statement today regarding Maryland leaving...he mentioned that the ACC stressed academics and athletics and would continue to do so.

If we're going by acadmeics and just for arguments sake the USN&WR rankings UConn is 63, Louisville 160

Calhoun being gone may help them. No the program may not be what it once was, but at the same time the program under Calhoun was completely out of control, and I am not sure the rest of the ACC would be comfortable having him in their conference

conspiracy theorists would suggest calhoun retired because this move was coming and he was not particularly liked by the ACC folk. Only coach K calls his "friend" and by that I mean K keeps the guys who kick his ass close. (jk)

I have no idea if Uconn gets invited, nor do i know when FSU, UNC, GaTech and NCState all decide to leave. if Uconn is invited, it will make for some hoops games, that's for sure. and perhaps a tourney at MSG once the big east disbands or sells the rights

Lousville just lost at home in a must win game to a PP/GDL coached team of Randy Edsall recruits with Johny Mcentee at QB. that has to be the worst loss in college football history.

Uconn is now 15-11 in BE play vs Lousiville, Pitt and Cuse
Uconn has scored 3 total points in the second halves of their 6 BE games this year

I'm almost pissed they won if it allows Pasquoloni and DeLeone to keep their jobs.

But whether this is rational or not, it makes me feel a lot better about Uconn's chances of getting into the ACC.

Stick a very cold fork into them. The are done. Probably good they lost. No bowl bid that we be a net mony loss due to travel costs, and coach Blue and Co. may be shown the door. I don't think a in would have helped them with any conference realignment issues.

Feel for the Seniors. Bowl would have been nice for them

Where things go from here should be interesting.

Jeff Jacobs in the Courant saying Coach P should get another year, but DeLeone should focus on either OC or line coach job not both. Really?

If two losing seasons, fewer butts in the stands, an offense (two yards and a cloud of dust) ranked about as close to the bottom of major colleges as is possible without dropping down a division, and the failure to look even reasonably attractive to a mjor conference aren't enough to get Manuel to act, then next year is going to be disasterous.

With the program uncertainty, the only hope is to get a young, aggressive coach to come in here and blow shit up.

They may be thinking that they can't get the guy they really want given the conference issue. You don't want to settle for a B or C level coach only to have to do the whole coach search all over again in 2 years when you bottom out and the conference issue clears up. It might be the best thing to keep Coach P on for one more year and get the conference affiliation under control. Then you can say thanks to Coach and get the guy to take the program to the next level. At this point you are not going to get the coach you really want or need. The Hazells, Goldens, young pro coordinators, and other aggressive guys out there will not go near UConn till the future of the program clears up. If they get into the ACC or B1G in the next year or two, then you have a hell of a potential program. Until then UConn is not a desirable job and the coaching pool will reflect that. I can understand the short term idea of keeping PP in place.

The danger with waiting to fire Coach P is that the season ticket base drops again and fewer fannies hit the seats at the Rent since the excitement level for the home team is slipping and the upcoming schedule will be weaker. So half filling a 40k seat stadium, and either have another losing season OR a winning season where you beat nobody will further damage the brand.

I thought was funny. From a Hartford Courant chat today with the UConn beat writer. How does he even collect a pay check? Though he did have the good news that he says GDL is going to be back next year.

Des Conner might be the worst sportswriter in the country and a huge Coach P/GDL apologist (Conner is a fellow Syracuse man who thought the decision to run the ball at THE end of the Pitt game instead of just taking a knee and ending the game was the right one because, duh, they won so how could it be bad and everyone who questioned the call is just a Coach P hater) and regularly cheers for the Orange to taunt his UConn followers. Here is a bit of news from him, however: a conversation with the AD.

UConn athletic director Warde Manuel confirmed head football coach Paul Pasqualoni will return for a third season. I spoke with Manuel by phone a short time ago. Here’s some of what he said. Full story should be up online at courant.com shortly…
“Look, I saw a team that played up and down but played hard, never quit, wasn’t lack of effort,” Manuel said. “As I said earlier in the season, we need to improve on the mistakes. Coaches need to make better decisions all around and put them [players] in better positions. Everybody has to improve. In my conversations with Paul I know he’s working that, improving that. I know he understands what he needs to do to be better next season. So I totally expect we’ll make the adjustments we need; that we’ll recruit student-athletes that can come in and try to help us now where we need it and that we’ll develop the players that are coming back – all in an effort to ensure success on the field.”

Asked about appealing more to the fanbase Manuel said..

“Obviously, my hope is that our fans will come out and support the team, support our coaches and student athletes because expectations for success haven’t changed,” Manuel said. “The expectation is that they’re going to win and we want that for the team, we want that for our fans. We want people to enjoy the experience of coming out and watching the team perform. When we don’t perform there’s nobody working harder to change that than the players and coaches so I would hope that our fans would continue to support the team the way they have and that they will see adjustments and changes made by this team to produce success. I hear our fans and I understand their disappointment but we’re going to make the adjustments to have better performance on the field than we had this year.”

Manuel is lucky his alma mater did UConn a favor by not buying out the game. People might just keep or buy season tickets just to see the Michigan game. And 2 years isn't enough for Pasqualoni but 7 months is enough for Ollie.

Plenty o f good seats available at the rent next year........

I guess you eat shit for a year until the conference stuff gets sorted out. They need to hire a young, aggressive OC and see what happens. But uninspiring is the best word I can come up with

I am starting to think that disbanding football might be one option they are exploring. The complete lack of undestanding the product, the coaching moves, the conference stuff...an outside observer might say best thing would be to shut down the program.

And what the hell would they do with Rentschler Field? Joe/Jane taxpayer ain't going to be happy that the state of Connecticut dropped 91 million on a new stadium only for a football program to disband.

Sunk costs?

Not sure that makes sense though. There is still a lot of movement likely to come and another conference opportunity may be six months away for all anyone knows.

The worst thing ever would be to dump the program, join the Catholic schools, and then find out in a few months that Memphis and Cincy are going to the Big XII, or that GTech and Virginia are going to the Big Ten and there are openings again in the ACC.

no one thinks they'll do it now. but it has to be an option. Football will be a death knoll on the athletic department if they are stuck in the NNNBE. the revenues will not support it and the hoops program will die slowly

at the end of the day, people in Ct won't support a second rate sports program. Whether they are spoiled or not, fans in thsi state geneally root for winners (Sox, Yanks, Pats, Giants, Celtics, Uconn hoops men and women). A football team whose upside is 9-3 and a bowl loss to a top 15 team just doesn't matter I suspect. Even though the stadium and game day is a great event, no one really cares to root for mediocrity. and its pretty clear by the way the AD treats football, given the coaches and scheduling, that it will never compete
