So Corey Floyd JR has reclassified and is joining the Huskies this season. He’s a big combo guard who just dominated the Peach Jam. Damn, they are deep. Hopefully someone can shoot

I'd still give the nod to Nova with Gillespie coming back and Wright being Wright, but who knows. Bottom line is that Hurley and staff have done a an outstanding job turning this program around in just 2-3 years.
And it sounds like they are in early on some big time talent over tue next couple years on the trail. Love the Luke Murray add to the staff. Hope to see Bill at Gampel or the Big east tourney

Wow. That’s weak. Looks like Syracuse schedule…..
They’ll get three quality opponents in the Atlantis tourney. West Virginia and St. Bonaventure both made the NCAA Tournament a year ago and are expected to be good again. Sure, the other five opponents are cream puffs, but that’s par for the course. If UConn finds itself on the bubble, their nonconference schedule won’t sink them.

Speaking of Uconn, when did they make it impossible/very difficult to briefly park on campus for free? I haven't been there in 15-16 years, but I swear it was easy back then. Now there's some paybyphone thing for every spot, other than the garages which are $2/hr (not outrageous but the principle of the thing, considering there's so much space there. Not a fan of that campus anyway, with the roads down the middle of it. Any plans to build an "on-campus" football stadium in that Industrial Tract/Innovation area? There's tons of space. Shouldn't need to play in the slums of East Hartford. Have students walk (or take much shorter shuttle) to the game.

I think the question is whether they continue to play FBS football at all, not whether they invest in a new stadium. If they get into the ACC someday, then in the far-distant future I could see them upgrading the infrastructure in and around Storrs to accommodate a stadium. But no one’s doing that ever for the program as presently constituted.

My Storrs parking info is more dated than yours. Back in the day, you couldn’t get a spot in the central parts of campus when you needed one, so what you’re describing sounds like an improvement to me.

1. They did away with free parking many many moons ago.

2. No they aren’t building an on campus football stadium. Not now, not ever.

Committed suicide or shot trying to escape?
Looking forward to the Yale UConn game in October. Hopefully some revenge for all the pastings UConn laid on us in the 80s and 90s before Yale stopped playing them. I think my class at Yale was the first never to beat them.

Good way to quit and get paid the rest of the year. Forced UConn's hand. Everyone's better off.

Edsall was under contract through 2023, so this isn’t a greedy move — he could’ve limped to a 1-11 record and made the school pay him for those two extra years. Still, it took a shocking lack of self-awareness for a coach with a career 102-136 record to think he was going to get a season-long farewell tour, which seemed to be his thinking with the retirement announcement.

Good deal for UConn — the necessary change has been made at lower cost than would have otherwise been the case, and they get a 10-game preview of what Spanos can do.

We'll have an extended period of time when writers "suggest" this or that person is a possibility for the job. Today we have some guy from The Athletic who listed Dan Orlovsky as a possibility. Just what UConn needs, someone who has no experience coaching whatsoever running a FBS program.

He could (and would) be bought out for $0 after this season. The above is incorrect.

UConn plays UMass in a few weeks. Loser drops to FCS?
From what I saw yesterday of Umass vs BC, that would be UConn who's being 'relegated'. Umass is still not good at all, but at least they can do some things with the ball.

If UMass doesn't get into the American in this round of expansion they should probably just call it a day and go back to the FCS. UConn should as well, but unlike UMass their stadium situation doesn't really work for doing that. Trying to be an independent in football for both schools is a joke.

What would be the advantage of dropping to FCS? In their current state they have an (albeit small) TV contract and get paid by teams like Clemson to be punching bags. The program would bring in even less money as an FCS school.

UConn' schedule should be teams like Ohio, Akron, teams like that, with an occasional lower-tier ACC school thrown in there. For them to play a middle Big 10 team and Clemson is obviously playing WAY above their level.

When they start winning these games regularly, toughen up the schedule a little. Keep working the way up like that. UConn will never ever compete for a national championship so there's no need to try. Just keep trying to get better. There's nothing wrong with being a 7-win team against a MAC-level schedule, throwing in maybe an occasional upset against a better school. That can be fun as a fan.

But they're a long way from even this kind of success, obviously.

UMass isn't going to the American; there's no point in waiting for that.

When Paul Johnson was at Navy, they scheduled on a 4-4-4 model -- four games where you figured to be the favorite, four games where you figured to be the underdog, and four games that could reasonably go either way. So you get paid and get to play some bigger-time opponents, and if you put it all together, you're going 8-4 or even maybe 9-3 and making a bowl. And if you can't put it together, hopefully you're still banking 4-5 wins and not totally demoralizing everyone.

Of course, when Holy Cross is a game that can reasonably go either way, that's much easier said than done. And Navy has the Army game built in -- there's always something big at the end of the season to play for. What does UConn have? I think they can piece together a pretty interesting schedule -- I see future games with Syracuse, Boston College, Temple, Maryland, Army, even Buffalo -- I think that's the right idea, to try to synthesize the conference schedule you wish you had. But how does it culminate? What does a satisfying UConn football season look like? Winning a bottom tier bowl game? I just don't understand the vision.

And maybe there is no vision beyond playing out the the stadium lease and hoping that conference realignment chaos changes the paradigm.

The problem is they need money and playing top Power 5 schools meets that need.

Uconn is probably at the level of Villanova, Monmouth and UNH. They'd probably lose to James Madison and Delaware. FCS is their level, competing for a top 3 FCS conference finish. They need to build a cheap small stadium on the northern extreme of the campus and go at it that way. It's obvious that basketball is their football. That isn't the case for 80%+ of the FBS teams. They need to play a local schedule and that's easier in the FCS not the AAC.

They're the largest public school in the richest per capita state, aren't they? how is this possible? Raise prices on basketball and hockey, and increase tuition/fees. Sell pblic bonds to pay for it. Or just have CCSU, ECSU and SCSU pay for it, that would be the nasty way to do it!

There's zero - ZERO - chance they'll build a smaller stadium near campus. That's a nonstarter of a suggestion.

In the past, they have relied on state funds to fund their athletics department and those have gone down in the past decade or so. The real money is in conference TV and revenue sharing deals and since UConn got shut out of the Power 5, those dollar figures have not been enough. So when they went independent and now have no conference-affiliated football TV money coming in(or very little), they need to go out and schedule teams that will pay them huge guarantees. That's why they have one off games with power programs like Clemson this year, Michigan next year, Tennessee in 2023, and Ohio State in 2025.

The vision should be to play a decent schedule and just not suck so bad. They were on the right path but have had 3 horrible coaching hires. How about hiring a coach that actually cares about offense. I have to think this is their last shot at getting the coaching hire correct. I know it seems like a lifetime ago but we used to sellout the Rent and it was a fun time.
