Hey everyone,

a good friend of mine is going to Madrid for a week to work. She’d like to attend the game on November 5th vs Milan.

I know it’s a tough game to get a ticket to and unfortunately I am not well versed in how to secure a ticket in Spain. I checked Hospitality on their website, as it seems premier league clubs always have availability with that, but even that looks sold out (I think. I don’t understand Spanish).

Any tips from someone who’s been there before would be appreciated.

I don’t believe the tickets are on sale yet. For a big game like this, the member owned teams, including Real Madrid, go to their socios first then sell the remaining to general public. I see a “tickets for general public available soon” note on their site for this game. I’d just keep checking the website until the tickets become available. Sometimes they allow you to sign up in advance to get an email when the tickets are available.

As an example, I went to a Copa game at Athletic Club against Barca at San Mamés in January. I was able to sign up for the email notification a week before the game then got an email just two days before the game. I clicked on the link maybe five minutes after the email got to my inbox and was brought to an online portal where I was around 4,500 in line. I got one of the last tickets left. It was insane to me and would have been impossible if I wasn’t traveling alone.

@rguilmar is correct. The game is not yet on sale for the general public. There seems to be 1 or 2 seats available in the VIP sections for around 1250 euros, which will give you access to the hospitality area, but you'd have to eat a lot of croquetas to make that worthwhile.

Viagogo is a reseller that will have La Liga games, and they are reliable. They have seats available starting at around 400 euros.

In past years, early Champions League matches were some of the easier seats to get. With the new tournament setup, that doesn't seem to be the case anymore, especially against bigger-name teams. I'd do as @rguilmar wrote and keep checking to see when general tickets are available to non-members -- in my experience, that can be as late as 1 week before the match.

How is her shot? I hear that Real Madrid has snipers on the roof of every game, so I think she could get a pretty good view of the game going that route.

Not that I would spring for them unless I had no other options, but those VIP tickets can be pretty swanky. One club, I think Athletic, requires caterers to the VIP section to have at least one Michelin Star or at least be recognized as a top local chef. It’s also the one section at Spanish games where alcohol is served, at least until kickoff. So if you get there early enough, you can get your money’s worth.

She's probably at a decent hotel for work travel, yes? A concierge got me a ticket to a Barcelona-Borussia Dortmund Champions League match several years ago for a negligible markup. He made one phone call. That's all I got.

They close the roof these days because their fans aren't loud enough with it open, so she'll need her x-ray glasses too.

True -- but you'd need to drink a lot of green Mahou...

In all seriousness, I've done the VIP route at the Bernabeu pre-modernization, and I certainly don't think they had any Michelin requirements for the catering. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if at the refurbished Bernabeu the quality of the catering improved a bit. You do get to gaze at all those trophies though.

Same for me, on match day, when I was in Madrid about 10 years ago. Random league match though. May be an option if other stuff falls through.
