Seems like a platoon with Arroyo at 1B is a potential plan. Arroyo can still spell X/Story against righties at times. It was either Dalbec or Cordero. Thought it might be Franchy because left-handedness and Dalbec's ability to play elsewhere in the infield, but that usefulness is really redundant as long as Kike' and Arroyo are healthy
Probably the way they'll go, given Casas's troubles against lefties. Heaven forbid they get them both in there by spelling JDSeems like a platoon with Arroyo at 1B is a potential plan. Arroyo can still spell X/Story against righties at times.
I think there was some additional consideration because of when Cordero was promoted - this won’t burn his optionIt was either Dalbec or Cordero. Not sure why they couldn’t have just waived Plawecki. It was either Dalbec or Cordero. Thought it might be Franchy because left-handedness and Dalbec's ability to play elsewhere in the infield, but that usefulness is really redundant as long as Kike' and Arroyo are healthy
Think there is a good chance Arroyo is the starting 2b next season..If they feel that Arroyo can handle 1b on occasion and especially against lefties then Bobby will be wearing a new uniform next year. Not sure if it will me a MLB or MiLB uni.
As much as I like Arroyo, I think there's a zero chance you go into any season with him penciled in as a starter. He can't stay on the field.Think there is a good chance Arroyo is the starting 2b next season..
If the Sox can resign Kike and sign Nimmo in the off-season, Kike’s positional flexibility is good protection against injuries across the Diamond. As much as I like Arroyo, I think there's a zero chance you go into any season with him penciled in as a starter. He can't stay on the field.
Pedroia's 31 games in '06 produced a sub-.200 batting avg. ROY in '07What was Pedroia’s first 300 AB’s? Just don’t expect much right now. Gap between AAA and ML is pretty great. Preaching patience
Didn’t Pedroia bat like .150 for the first 6 weeks in the majors? What was Pedroia’s first 300 AB’s? Just don’t expect much right now. Gap between AAA and ML is pretty great. Preaching patience
Might be Home Depot. If they feel that Arroyo can handle 1b on occasion and especially against lefties then Bobby will be wearing a new uniform next year. Not sure if it will me a MLB or MiLB uni.
Pedroia hit .188 in 98 PAs his 1st season but his BABIP was .188 and if I recall, he was hitting lasers right at defenders.Didn’t Pedroia bat like .150 for the first 6 weeks in the majors?
That lineup with Casas and Story in there looks…not badRotowire expected lineup batting 7th, looking forward to today’s game.
Also in 1B world, Keith Hernandez had a similar start. Highly regarded. Cup of coffee in '74. Opening Day starter in '75. Sent back to AAA hitting about .200. Raked in AAA. Returned to majors in September, where he hit 350. Never went back. How many players have made their MLB debuts this season for the Red Sox? Bello, Downs, Winckowski and Kelly...anyone else? And if that seems like a lot, it's actually one of the lowest number of MLB debuts in either league with only the Dodgers having fewer debuts.

As for Dalbec, it must be extremely painful to head back to AAA after appearing in over 260 games over three seasons. I hope he can work out his approach to hitting. Remember, Mo Vaughn was sent back to AAA for a while after appearing in about 75 games for the Red Sox. (Looking back, Mo had a .260 BA in that MLB stint.)
Hoping that Casas takes after Lou Merloni and Daniel Nava, both of whom homered in their first MLB plate appearances, a 3 run HR and a grand slam respectively.
What does “being ready” even mean? Never struggle? Immediately be an .850 OPS hitter with 25 HR’s??? Great defense? But, is Casas ready? Glad to see them make this move and let him get his feet wet over the final month in some relatively low pressure situation. Worst case, he struggles and learns from it and the org learns a little bit more about him. Best case, he plays well, the team wins down the stretch and everyone feels good heading into the off-season.
Thing is... Keith Hernandez was 21 in 1975. Mo Vaughn was a little older, 24 when he was sent back to Pawtucket. Bobby D is 27. Would love for him to work something out, but his age makes the future expectations a whole different proposition. Also in 1B world, Keith Hernandez had a similar start. Highly regarded. I'm always reminded of Dewey flipping the switch as like a 28yo in the majors. Much higher starting point than Bobby obviously and excellent fielder as well, but he took it to another level in '81 and carried it through a second prime at the plate. Bobby has tools, but he just hasn't put it together. Pulling for him.Thing is... Keith Hernandez was 21 in 1975. Mo Vaughn was a little older, 24 when he was sent back to Pawtucket. Bobby D is 27. I like to think I would do this on the day I got called up to Fenway. Fing awesome.
I have seen this reported multiple times and it isn't true. He popped in his first AB - into a double play. He homered in his second AB.Future Oriole Hall of Famer Gunnar Henderson hit a home run in his first major league AB earlier this week. I expect nothing less from Casas.
Solar powered sluggers are the future of the game.I’ve heard that Gen-Z types like to sun their taint
No doubt there are significant differences, and in any case, the exceptions sort of prove the rule.. Ultimately, I dont think Dalbec is long for this organization.Thing is... As ready as he's going to get without seeing MLB pitching. He has close to a 1.000 OPS vs R and is striking out less than 17% of the time. All his issues are vs lefties. And there just isn't enough PA to go around vs L.But, is Casas ready? Glad to see them make this move and let him get his feet wet over the final month in some relatively low pressure situation.
