It's getting very hard to not get super excited about his arrival in the major leagues, hopefully this season. He could be a legit force for a LONG time.

What are opinions on the timing of bringing him up? He seems pretty clearly to be a potential upgrade over Dalbec, but it's a bit of a conundrum to have 2 players whose development is still ongoing and who both need to be brought along gently and set up for success through good matchups, regular playing time, etc. Will these guys platoon? Who would be the positional player most likely to get traded/demoted if Casas is brought up?

I would think June at the earliest. He is off to a great start but he still only has 20 games in AAA as a 22 year old. Dalbec's ceiling, while unlikely, is worth playing him at 1B for a month or two to see if he can get it together. Even if Dalbec only becomes a solid defensive 1B that crushes lefties that is a pretty valuable player to have on very little money.

The loss of the mighty Travis Shaw will be hard to bear, but if we all band together I think we can get through it.

Travis Shaw, with all his might, would at least be a veteran option to help shoulder the load while one or the other, or both, finds their way. I don't know what options remain for Dalbec, but I would think having him as the short half of a platoon (as the RHH) could stall his development, which would tank his value. Shaw is exactly the kind of guy that provides flex which could allow both of the prospects to get regular PT, whether at the MLB or MiLB levels. It's just unfortunate that he doesn't possess a little more oomph.

It feels like Dalbec will be gone if/when Casas settles in as at least the solid half of a platoon, if not starting most of the time. Until then, he should get whatever experience/exposure he can to allow him to develop and hopefully bring a decent return if he ends up as the odd man out.

A non operative high ankle sprain (assuming moderate to high grade) could easily be a 6-8 week injury before being able to even start the on-field rehab process.

Haven't seen it mentioned anywhere, but Casas hurt his knee playing Winter ball and has been out for 2 weeks, but should be able to play "a little more" there again this season. He came to Boston to get evaluated by the team, and is still in the US now.

Though first baseman Triston Casas hasn’t played in the last two weeks in the Dominican Winter League because of knee soreness, the Red Sox — after having him evaluated in Boston — believe that he will be able to resume playing for the Licey Tigers.

“We brought him back to Boston, just to make sure that we felt good about everything and get checked out here. We didn’t have concern [based] off of that,” said chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom. “He’s still in the states right now. But hopefully, he’ll be back down there soon and get ramped up and play a little more.”
Oh, Thad Ward and Yorke have also been injured.

Righthander Thaddeus Ward, who suffered a left oblique strain while pitching in the Arizona Fall League on October 10, is nearing a return to games for the Scottsdale Scorpions. The 25-year-old, who forged a 2.28 ERA over 13 starts (topping out in Double A Portland) this year in his return from Tommy John surgery in June 2021, was 1-1 with nine strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings in the AFL before the injury … Another Red Sox prospect, second baseman Nick Yorke, has been out since Oct. 25 because of wrist soreness. He returned to the lineup on Tuesday for Scottsdale and played second base. He led off and went 1 for 5 with an RBI.
