While true, it also makes the free agent pitcher depth kind of irrelevant. If they aren't willing to give Lester what it takes, they seem unlikely to sign Shields or Scherzer, at least.

If everything breaks right, they can probably find value and sign a few from the group of Haren, McCarthy, Masterson, Hammel, de la Rosa, etc. and hope to get lucky.

Shields will be 33 next year. He's not getting a 6 or 7 year deal. If the years are what's keeping them from committing to Lester, then Shields on a 3 year deal with a 4th year vesting option for 18 AAV might be an appealing alternative. Keep in mind that Shields is likely to receive a QO so his value will be a bit suppressed. I agree they're not likely to go after Scherzer, but Shields should be in play.

Can those who are posting tweets also plain text the tweet in your post?  I know it might keep you from being the first to post the tweet but its really fucking annoying to not be able to read the tweets being posted from my mobile device

Hahahahaha. Yeah, because getting the actual info being tweeted to you is what's important?

Good luck with that. Some of us have been asking for that for months. Nothing like a link to a twitter page and then having to scroll back through and guess what the poster was referring to. Some guys at least post a link that pulls up the direct tweet, at least thats less painful.

iPhone with Safari and they show up fine. Maybe don't use the app?

Some people don't have access to sosh through anything but a mobile device for a good portion of the day. It's not asking much for people to take more than the bare minimum amount of time required to copy and paste a link.

Yeah. It's incumbent on the person delivering the info to make sure it's accessible to those that want to read it. If it's not, what's the point?

If you have a problem, talk to a moderator. URI asked that all tweet links be copied and pasted into the post so that they come up as shown.

Sure, and then take 15 seconds to copy/paste the text as well.

Or at least comment on it. This is a discussion board. If we're going to be reduced to copy and pasting tweets and article snippets, we might as well change the name of the site to mashable.

If you want tweets to be visible. Just copy the tweet like we did before the auto embed. Highlight the tweet and click the eraser. Then just paste the link. That's what I have been doing and it's always been visible on tapatalk

I can do a YouTube video with step by step instructions if I need to

I don't see how the A's can put together a competitive offer for Lester unless there is just no market for him, which doesn't appear to be the case.

Where is the match here?

I'm hearing through some well connected friends that the Sox and Os are back on and that the Os have doubled their offer.

Link incoming.

EDIT -

Correction. The Sox are close to acquiring a giant double stuffed Oreo.

Why don't we just get rid of the auto embed feature that we put in less then a year ago? Have people copy and paste the tweet then highlight the tweet and click the erase icon (top left in the post box I believe) then just paste the link as a hyperlink.

Out of curiousity, why can't we just leave the tweet?  Is it so the tweeter gets a click?

Hunter Harvey got shut down for the rest of the season with a strained right elbow so you can cross his name off in any potential deal with the Orioles..

Just speculating, but the timing is odd.  We were close to a deal with the O's, then we weren't, and now a top prospect is shut down.  Wonder if they were trying to dump him on us.

Maybe Harvey didn't want to get traded, so he went in for treatment?

I don't get why we would target Puig or Stanton since we could just add another prospect and get Trout, right?
I love the "Seinfeld" when Costanza says he's found out a way to get Bonds and Griffey and "not give up that much."

With everyone supposedly now dropping out of the Lester race is it possible that the Peavy return ends up better than the Lester return?  If Escobar and Hembree were the only offer for Lester is that better than the comp pick?

Sure would suck if that was the case but man would Sabean look like an idiot.

Until 4pm tomorrow, no one has dropped out of the Lester race, no matter what lip service they pay or leak out to their tweeting minions.

This is all posturing. At sometime between now and 4PM tomorrow some team is going to decide to GFIN and pay the freight. All the Sox need is one. I'd be shocked if the Cards, Dodgers, Marlins and Bucs all stood by and waited contently. It's too close a race and Lester is too big of a difference maker for teams to sit idly.

No. If the price dropped that low, then even the teams that were out would come back in and bid it back up. If all the Giants had to do tomorrow to land Lester was match the value they gave up for Peavy, then Sabean would be adding Lester as well.

There's a floor in the value Lester will return, and it's higher than the compensation pick.

Right.  It could easily be the case that multiple teams feel that Lester is far and away the best player available in a trade and are in a feeding frenzy to get him and that the Sox are just sitting back and watching their already great offers become better ones.

Nothing is going happen until we get close to the deadline tomorrow. Teams are not going to show their hand and reveal the upper limit until the end, and Cherington is not going to settle for any deal until he knows what the most every team is willing to give up.
