Trade Theis or Thompson to get more playing time for RWIII (and Grant and maybe even Tacko)

Trade a minor piece like TT, trade for a minor piece like Delon.

If they can acquire a player like Ball, Lauri, or Monk I'd be for it too.

It's time to push in the chips for Collins. He is the ideal piece and will be a true game-changer. If Ainge has the resources, he has to use them to acquire the most valuable piece first.

Collins is worth it for the Celtics, even if it is an overpay because a quarter is greater than 3 dimes in the NBA. You have to acquire him now so you can offer him the max in the summer.

What are your three dimes?

P.S. In what category would a Walker trade belong?

oh I read it wrong. I voted what I wanted AInge to do. He'll probably do very little/nothing.

I think it's up in the air, but....
I could see a Barnes/Gordon trade, combined with a smaller trade away to stay under the tax.

What will he do, or what should he do? I'd like to see him stand pat or sell a couple pieces, like Thompson. I don't think there's any addition he can make that would make them contenders. So use the trade expemption in the off-season and chalk this year up to growing pains.

Minor trade. I disagree with the characterization of Theis as minor. He is an accomplished player.

So, time for Danny to pick a lane.
I don't think DA picks the lane. I think the lane is set for him by the other GMs. If DA can get a good deal, he'll pull the trigger. But he, for example, is not sending out two 1sts and Nesmith/Romeo for Gordon.

We'll see how reasonable other GMs are.

I get the feeling it's going to be a dud of a trading deadline across the league. I think Ainge is expecting many more trade candidates to be available this offseason. I'm basing that on nothing but the subtext behind the earlier quotes from Wyc and Danny.

Trades for a starter.

I'd be surprised, and really disappointed, if they lost Hayward from the rotation and replaced him with nothing for a whole season.

Ha! I was going to start this exact same thread last week (with almost the same options).

My bet: Ainge does nothing. A lot of sound and fury from beat sportswriters, then the deadline comes and goes ... uneventfully. I think he'll calculate the cost of a move to be too great, and at this point, unless Gordon Hayward wakes up and decides he was a fool to have left the Celtics, no move is going to make a big enough difference.

The only lane that gets us to a title is finding an elite 5. I dont even know that this lane exists. Gordon, Barnes...none of those guys win us a title. And I dont know that it is worth the pieces necessary to get this underperforming team back to no better than where they were last year.

I dont know if a window ever existed to get that piece, but if it did, I fear we missed it.

Yea, adding Beal to this team wouldn't make them a title favorite. Or Lilliard. Or Doncic.

Only way there is an elite 5. Sure.

Sorry but your take is stupid.

Why does this team need an elite 5? I feel like that's the last thing they need. The big rotation is not the problem here.

I mean, yes please? Not the greatest fit on D but what an offense that would be. Why would they move Sabonis tho? Do they want to keep Turner now? Total rebuild?

You only trade JB for Sabonis if you think that the Jays are too redundant and aren't a good fit playing together. Not sure I'm there quite yet.

It's a damn Mike Corleone "just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in" moment every year the week of the deadline. Can't help myself from getting sucked into the void that is NBA trade rumor Twitter.

I mean, it's the Pacers. They might trade us Sabonis if we offer Tatum, Brown, 3 unprotected 1st's, and 2 swaps.

The team is starting to get expensive, and will get even more expensive when TJ Warren hits free agency. From Bird we know that the Pacers have two priorities, remain competitive and south of the tax line. With Warren and LaVert they can remain competitive assuming good returns on Brogdon and Sabonis.

A franchise who was trying to win a title certainly might decide that Sabonis is a very good player who probably can't be a 1 or 2 on a championship team--he can bullyball small guys but not big ones, and while his passing is very good he isn't quite elite at anything else. But he's very good at a lot.

Indiana, of course, is just trying to win 40-50 games and make the playoffs every year so he's a great fit there.

Yup. And his contract is an absolute steal at $18-19M / season for the next few years. He's incredibly valuable for Indiana. Brogdon has a similar team-friendly deal but I could see them at least considering dealing him if someone were willing to pony up a young player and/or multiple picks.

On the Ringer podcast today, KOC and Chris Vernon are talking about the Celtics. Vernon was at the game last night and says they don't have team chemistry or togetherness at all. Vernon has heard that Marcus Smart is a problem right now because of the trade rumors surrounding him. He thinks he's getting traded and it has affected him being totally engaged night in and night out. Another thing he's heard is that Tristan Thompson is a huge issue in the locker room. He is "resented" in the locker room because he won't stop going out partying which is breaking COVID protocols. He says Thompson does not want to play. KOC says he's heard the same thing on TT.

Wow. Time to ship his ass out.

The chemistry stuff makes sense, that's apparent watching them for any amount of time.
