After that Headley deal, I can see you not liking Preller.
Huh? That trade 1) happened two weeks before Preller was hired and 2) hasn't been an especially good or bad move either way.

Cashman thought he was selling high on Solarte, and he looked correct for a bit, it hasn't been until this year (two years later) that Solarte has started to play well. And Headley has been quite good this year after his unbelievably horrific start, .809 OPS in 254 PAs since May 9 and very consistent defense all year.

Colin Rea with 3.1 impressive innings in his Marlins debut, then calls for the trainer and leaves injured. Get on the phone, Brian!

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports tweets that top catching prospect Francisco Mejia is headed to the Brewers in the deal. Yahoo’s Jeff Passan tweets that one of left-hander Justus Sheffield or right-hander Triston McKenzie could be in the deal as well, and Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer also mentions Sheffield as a possibility (Twitter link). Rosenthal tweets that shortstop Yu-Cheng Chang and outfielder Greg Allen are going to the Brewers as well.

Francisco Mejia, switch-hitting 20-year-old catcher, during his current 42-game hitting streak at Class A: .385/.408/.609 with 8 HR, 37 RBI.

We will have to see the official deal, but this seems like a good return for the Brew Crew. Mejia is a sexy prospect, a few years away from the big leagues, but the Brewers are going through a rebuild and so they don't need a major league ready catcher now. I would take Mejia over T.d'Arnaud, Swilhart, or Vazquez. Meija has a higher ceiling (whereas the other three have a higher floor) and I prefer the higher ceiling prospect. Sheffield and McKenzie (it sounds like the Brewers got one of the two) are intriguing pitching prospects. A good return for a season and two months of Lucroy.

That would give NY 5 of the top 39 prospects on the current MLB.com list, 7 of the top 100.

Sweet Jesus that's a haul for Miller. Are the Indians on crack?

Sheffield to the Yankees, so may as well start to get hating him now. Here you go:
He is the nephew of former MLB All-Star outfielder Gary Sheffield.

Sheffield was arrested on January 12, 2015, and was charged with underage drinking and aggravated burglary. He pleaded guilty to charges of underage drinking and criminal trespass with a deferred judgment, so that the charges could be expunged from his record in a year.
In all seriousness, it's a dark day for Red Sox fans to see the Yankees finally understanding the value of youth. Damn good weekend for the MFY.

Why in hell would Lucroy reject a deal that puts him in position to win a ring and in a small market which is what he reportedly wanted??? I can't believe he would do that. Why would he even have the Indians on a no-trade list in the first place?

Maybe he wanted something to waive it and the Indians said no?

The Miller deal is already official, Milwaukee GM will be talking on Lucroy soon.

The other contenders on his NTC are Washington and Detroit, unless you count Seattle as a fringe team.

If the Sox are really out - that leaves maybe the Mets as a team that matched up the best.

Probably wants acquiring team to not pick up his 5.25 million option for next year.
This is silly. The Brewers can just keep him, pick up the option, and unload him in the offseason. I doubt his play works.

So you're suggesting that anyone else who had interest in Lucroy will lower their offers now that they have another crack at him?
If Lucroy is demanding his option for 2017 is declined, then you could argue that 2-3 months of Lucroy is worth substantially less than 2-3 months with a very cheap team option for 2017.

But alternately the Brewers might need to decide what will fetch more: Lucroy for 2+ months now, or Lucroy for one season in December.

Seems like a pretty similar haul to the one SD got for Kimbrel; less impressive if anything, I think. And Miller right now is better (and cheaper) than Kimbrel. So if they're on crack, Dombrowski must be on heroin.
Frazier I rate higher than Margot. That dude is going to be legit. The SD deal at least could work out for both sides. Outside of winning the WS in the next 2 years I don't see how this Miller deal is a win for Cleveland.

The Indians do have a legit chance to win a WS the next two years with their rotation and now their bullpen. If Brantley does come back healthy in September, look out.

Wow. Cleveland. Great news for the fighting Franconas.

Combined with the news on Wade Davis, and the White Sox general offensive incompetency, the Indian's window is wide, wide open.
