Teams that have talked to the #Phillies say they've backed off on bullpen and are shopping for a starter who can start a playoff game. They've been in on Syndergaard & Mahle. I've heard them connected to Quintana, but like last year, Dave Dombrowski values control over rentals

But I've also heard from multiple teams that the #Phillies haven't just said no on their 2 top-100 pitching prospects, Painter & Abel, but also on Griff McGarry, Ben Brown & Logan O'Hoppe Hard to see how they can trade for a Game 3/4 type starter without including one of those 3

https://www.si.com/mlb/astros/news/report-houston-astros-tampa-bay-rays-discuss-ji-man-choi-jose-urquidy-jose-siri-josh-lowe-swap

According to Patrick Creighton of ESPN 97.5 Houston, the Houston Astros and Tampa Bay Rays have conducted trade talks over a variety of players. Foremost among them are Ji-Man Choi and José Urquidy.

In need of a first baseman, the Astros have shown a willingness to trade one of their many starters. Slated to have enough for a reliable seven-man rotation by the time Lance McCullers Jr. returns, Urquidy has found himself on the chopping block.

MLB.com is reporting that LF Ehire Adrianza going from the Nats to the Braves for AA OF Trey Harris (2019 Minor League Player of the Year for Atlanta). To create a roster spot, the Braves DFA'd Robinson Canó.

Probably a good move by Milwaukee; Hader hasn’t been great this year and will get a paid a ton next year. Seems like they’ve been talking about moving him for years…

He's mostly had bad luck this year (.306 BABIP vs career .226 before the season). His flyball percentage and HR/9 are up, but otherwise he's been the same dominant pitcher he's been all along. 15.6 K/9 and a 3.2 BB/9 are right in line with his averages.

That said, moving him now before he gets prohibitively expensive for a mid-market team like the Brewers is probably for the best, especially since getting Rogers to take his spot is probably a wash for now, and the prospects will help in the future.

So Padres out on Soto?
Doubtful. They still have all four players who were part of the rumored package - Hassell, Gore, Abrams, Morejon - plus Campusano who maybe doesn't interest Washington but could be moved to some catching-needy team for another prospect or two as part of a multi-way deal

Ruiz is an intriguing player. Didn’t get much run with the Padres but dude can sure steal bases. Hope the Brewers play him. Really fun to watch.

Yeah. Imagine having a pen so good that you can trade a guy with a career rate of 15+, though. Crazy.

Most of his damage has come in the last few weeks. He gave up 9 runs in 1/3 of an inning over two starts in the middle of July.

Is Williams going to close in Milwaukee or Rogers?

Sure, but they have to leave *some* cost controlled talent, right? And how much salary can they take on? Musgrove's extension put them at 151 mil next year for 13 guys, Hader will be another 15 mil or so, and Soto was 17 mil this year in his first year of arbitration.

Out on Montas? If so could be headed to MFY

STL and NYY seem to be the last two teams in on Montas, I think it will happen very soon. If it is NY, the prospect price is going to be painful (if it is STL too, I just won't care).

Hader has bottom percentile (literally) barrel rate this year. I could see this trade being a big lose-lose.

Losing their 7th ranked prospect isn’t going to move the needle for them on the Soto trade.

Mancini is sad to leave BAL but he will hit so many more HRs to that dinky LF in HOU than he was able to at the newly expanded LF in BAL.

Breaking: Don’t know who is involved on Houston Astros end. But Orioles will get multiple players In exchange for Trey Mancini.

Bob Nightengale
@BNightengale

15m

The deal is final: The #Astros get OF Trey Mancini from the #Orioles and RHP Jayden Murray from the #Rays. The #Orioles get RHP Seth Johnson from the #Rays and RHP Chayce McDermott from the Astros. The #Rays get outfielder Jose Siri from the #Astros.@JeffPassan with full deal
This makes me irrationally angry.

Does Baltimore want to lose or am I missing something ?
Mancini is a FA and can come back if both sides want, BAL got TB’s #6 prospect who is about to have TJS and won’t be back until 2024, but a good long-term play.
