What does this mean, exactly?Rendon also seems only halfway interested in playing baseball, so I think you need to take that into account when you give someone their "set for life" contract.

I'd prefer to not prospect hump and instead trade for quality young talent to bolster a suddenly leaky rotation. Not panicking
The Yankees to compete with that would have had to have done something like Volpe, Dominguez, and one of their AA/AAA starters; I don't know what the Dylan Moore equivalent would be, some cheap second tier hitter who can maybe start. What is Cashman doing?
“Give me your top 4-5 prospects” might actually happen…If that's the price for Castillo, Ohtani and Soto are going to get packages that stagger the imagination.

Maybe? Looks like Dipoto recognized the extra incentive to reach the playoffs. If that's the price for Castillo, Ohtani and Soto are going to get packages that stagger the imagination.
Maybe. I still think there's an upper bound and am skeptical that Soto will fetch a package significantly more than Chris Sale did. Sale was club control for 3 years at less money than Soto will get over the next 2.If that's the price for Castillo, Ohtani and Soto are going to get packages that stagger the imagination.

I wonder if this will create a Rudy Gobert/Kevin Durant situation with Soto where the Nats feel they have to get way more than Cincy did. Maybe it's more likely Soto doesn't get moved until the winter now. That may not be enough
Soto loses a considerable bit of value if he doesn't move this year. It's about getting him two full seasons AND this year's stretch run. Getting 1.5 years isn't that crazy, getting 2.5 is very rare...to say nothing of everything else about Soto that is super rare.I wonder if this will create a Rudy Gobert/Kevin Durant situation with Soto where the Nats feel they have to get way more than Cincy did. Yeah if you use that trade value chart Soto is at 177 and the top 5 Cardinals minor league prospects total around 148.That may not be enough
Maybe but there is always Rodriguez to dangle. Though I'd say it's unlikely at this point. So Mariners must be out on Soto
I know it's not gospel, but Fangraphs ranks Rodriguez 4th and Soto 6th in their trade value column that just dropped this week. Obviously Soto has a longer track record, but Rodriguez has a higher WAR this year, is a plus defender at CF, and perhaps most importantly, he won't hit FA until my soon-to-be-8th-grader starts his freshman year of college. And he's probably a star in Seattle after that HR derby performance (if he wasn't already). I don't think he gets traded.Maybe but there is always Rodriguez to dangle. Though I'd say it's unlikely at this point.
How do you figure? SEA could easily end up as their ALDS opponent. They will likely see him Monday too, although looks like he will miss their series the following week in SEA.Short of the Yankees getting Castillo, this is a win for NY as it results in Castillo not going to a team that would be in their way.
Yeah, I just realized the other day that the Supersonics have been in the playoffs more recently than the Mariners. Gotta push the chips in.My Seattle fan friends are happy as shit ... Trade the future for the now
It's more my overall pessimism on this season speaking as I'm thinking that its either NY or Houston in the WS for the AL.How do you figure? SEA could easily end up as their ALDS opponent. They will likely see him Monday too, although looks like he will miss their series the following week in SEA.
Because it's Colorado and any time they can retain a good pitcher, they should absolutely do it, given their difficulty in obtaining and retaining good pitching.Good for Bard and terribly stupid for the Rockies. Why wouldn’t you trade him.
Don’t agree with the baseball move here but really happy for him. Life changing money.Bard has a sub 200 BABIP. It's the Rockies though, they're the drunk uncle of MLB.

Could not possibly agree more. Good for him, stupid by them.Don’t agree with the baseball move here but really happy for him. Life changing money.

Tough call, but when you're a team like the Padres in GFIN mode, I think you have to do it
