TRADE DEADLINE GAME THREAD

The thing that scares me is that the Sox just gave up arguably their best pitching prospect in several years for Pom, a guy now being regulated to 4/5 based on the above. He is being regulated bc their is a need to empty the farm for Sale.

I am not saying Sale isn't elite, but this trade, if it came to fruition, seems like a misuse of resources.

So basically the Sox would move Pom out of the playoff rotation and go with Price/Sale/Porcello.
Well, if you get out of the 1st series, you need a 4th starter. And even if that 4th starter is Wright, Pomeranz is a really nice lefty to have in the pen for middle/late innings. And then, you know, he'd be in the rotation for several years to come. It's not like these guys are rentals...this wouldn't even be a "go for it now", it'd be a "go for it for the next 3 years", which is pretty damn nice.
Another thing to consider as well...No matter where Pomeranz slots in a potential playoff rotation, his main purpose is to help get you to that point.

That is true. But it would cost most of the farm. I really like the idea of Moncada and at least one of Devers and AB helping the Red Sox contend for the next three years also.

Devers' time frame may be next 3 to five years, but Moncada should definitely be helping the major league team at some point next year.

Relegated, not regulated.

Light will be decent if he ever stops walking guys. Hope he gets a chance for the Big Twinkies these last 2 months.

Edit: And I'm glad to see the end of the Tommy Layne era.

Benintendi is a "very good" fielder. I watched him a lot in college live. He's got a good first step, good speed, route running isn't always the most efficient but he's very athletic and overcomes that. Has always been in center field. Above average arm but not a cannon. He has high baseball intelligence in the field, on base and at the plate. Loved that they drafted him (as an Arkansas alumn) would really hate to see him go. Especially if Sale's arm explodes. My elbow hurts watching him.
Thanks for the "impressions of Benintendi" post.

Heyman is on mlb. Sale is biggest name rumored about. Mlb network wants you to watch. Hence, Heyman keeps regurgitating Sale rumors

Hill and Reddick are the guys I wanted, thought it would be a reasonable payout for two useful players. Damn.
According to today's drift, Reddick's talents are probably too good for LF, and CF and RF are taken. You could move Mookie to left, but the timing is bad (mid-season). As for Hill, he is considered a delicate flower around here.

With the Dodgers getting Hill, you would think Sales price tag may have fallen. Then again, the White Sox don't have to move him as long as they don't have anymore throwback days this season..

Any thoughts on if the Sox will move Buchholz? He pitched three pretty solid innings last night. Does he get another shot at the rotation if he continues to pitch well out of the pen?

Abad deal creates a bit of a roster crunch. I assume Layne is finally gone for Abad but who goes when Kimbrel gets activated? Buccholz trade or DFA or Kelly demotion seem to be the only options. Am I missing something?

Maybe that's because Hill has thrown five pitches since the first week of July. Also, he's thrown 76 IP this season, which is already the third most of any season in his eleven year career. And he's 36 years old.

Abad is ok, but seriously outperforming his peripherals and doesn't strike out that many guys for a reliever. I guess we needed a bullpen arm, but I don't really expect that this made the team much better. Can't complain about the cost, though.
