#marlins to receive double A RHP Kyle Barraclough from cardinals for (Falmouth native) Steve Cishek

Good lord, that seems like a terrible return for Cishek. Cishek has 2 more years of team control, and had been a very good reliever until this year. It's looking like a real buyer's market so far.

It's insane that Johnson and Urine are enormous upgrades for the Mets....

But they are. Monster upgrades.

wouldn't Daniel Nava or De Aza be upgrades for them? BC could have received a pot of gold from the Mets for De Aza since O's are paying a lot of the contract..

The Mets really did piss their season away.

Hamels' no hitter should, in theory, drive up his price. But the recent history of pitchers' starts following a high pitch no hitter isn't good., so I'm not sure it matters either way

Well whatevever his new team is will have to worry about it. No way he makes another start for the Phillies. They would skip it, I'm assuming

Meh. I highly doubt any GMs are now chomping at the bit because he threw a no hitter. The about to get canned dipshit in the Philly front office may try to make it so, but I doubt MacPhail is that naive and it seems he's in charge now, or at least steering the car from the passenger seat while Amaro lights his last smoke before the firing squad aims their sights.

In general I think we as fans give GMs too little credit to their intelligence. Moves don't work out and prices paid might seem questionable, but I think we are past the days of the "what would we do with Willie McGee?" level of blindness. Ymmv.

Keep in mind in his last 2 starts before the no hitter he gave up a total of 14 runs. So I'm not sure how much it really changed his value, but if he threw 3 stinkers in a row leading up to the break that would really hurt I think.

Cargo has gotten hot at the right time to help facilitate a trade, that's for sure.

I think Colorado is going to need a big haul, though; otherwise, they are in trouble of taking a huge PR hit by dealing both Tulo and Cargo at the same time.

This is a problem.

They shouldn't CARE about the PR hit. Don't half heart the rebuild because you're concerned about what the fans think, do it right because it you're going to fuck up your franchise worse if you don't.

I agree with this, in an ideal world, anyway.  Management does have to worry about putting fans in the seats, and the Rockies' attendance is down.  They also have a track record of worrying about such things, for better and worse.

The Angels have traded for DeJesus, Victorino and Murphy in the past 24 hours.  Wow.

That's a lot of OK outfielders. What are they doing, how do all these pieces fit?
Quite a bit of platooning. Cron and Vic seem to be drawing the short end of the stick.

Phillies and Nats are now at the finish line jumping through final hoop that will send Papelbon to Nationals in exchange for AA pitcher

I have season tix to the Nats' AA team, will be interesting to see who it is. If it's Lucas Giolito I'll lead the revolt in Washington.
Did he get promoted in the past couple days? I just went to see him pitch for Potomac last week. Agree that he can't be the piece for a closer. He was electric. A ridiculously good what seemed like a 2 seamer that moves away from lefties, a tremendous curveball, all the velocity you need. It was depressing to watch and see the difference between a real pitching prospect and all the Barnes Workman types the Red Sox keep promoting from Pawtucket.

Yeah promoted late last week or this past weekend. Can't recall specific date.

Supposedly Latos and Morse to the Dodgers.  Can't link because my company blocks tweets.

According to sources there is a third team involved in the
Dodgers/Marlins trade which is bigger than being reported

Speculation just broke that it's Carlos Gomez. Interesting

Considering how Morse is hitting this year, he'll either be an embedded Giant or the Doyers will cut him, he'll get picked up by the Giants, and he'll scratch his way to an .800 OPS for the rest of the season and knock a key pinch hit home run to beat the Dodgers.

Kershaw
Greinke
Price
Latos
Anderson
Yikes . ..
Maybe Kershaw is heading to the DL, because that seems like overkill.

The Tigers might end up getting more for two months of Price than they gave up for one year and two months of Price.
