Did Wallach constantly step on Fred every time he did it and kill the joke like last time? It was funny, Fred the other day said he went back to the Irsay segment from last week and couldn't believe how badly Wallach stepped on the entire segment.
No, the segment was great overall. Everyone just stepped out of the way and let Fred do his thing.

Although Fred and Wallach got into it a little bit today when Fred took digs at Wallach for being a "part time Celtics announcer" and Wallach responded by saying "I'm sorry you couldn't make it in here today, Fred!" as Fred was once again doing the show from home.

Definitely think they read this thread. At the end of todays show they announce that they’re both off on Monday. Fred assured, “It’s ok people, I’m not going to be here on Monday. Everything is fine”

Thought the same thing. It would have been perfect if he made a joke about failing a nicotine test. :)

If Wallach had any chops he would have used the opportunity to call Fred, in turn, a part-time morning show host. Alas, Wallach’s main comedic contribution to the show is his breathy “Jeezus” whenever he has nothing to add to a joke.

edit - I wanted to add, even when Wallach is there and not adding much, the show just runs better. The guys need somebody they can knock around a little bit, a la Adolfo and Nick. Wallach has always been game for that, to his credit. They have all developed some kind of chemistry all these years later. It took me a while to get here, but I do think best version of the show is with him there.

Wallach Teddy Johnson and Lockhart today, in case anyone is looking to not listen.

Lockhart apparently got locked out of his email and Wallach enticed him for his takes on it:
"I hate it here"
"I don't like walking through the door here"
"well I was happy until they canned me in October. Now maybe they can do something to make me happy"

Wallach leads off the show asking TJ for his advice on what to do when bench pressing and needs a spot

Brutal.

Yeah, I haven't listened to a Simmons podcast in months, but I put on his latest this morning. No need to subject myself to that lineup, life is too short.

Lockhart is fine... Wallach is a try-hard who kept the trains running on time, but is not skilled enough to effectively host. Johnson thinks he's (a lot) better than he is... he would be a brutal color analyst on TV/radio despite his wishes (and Wallach's over-the-top "endorsement"). We all got through it... time for the adults to return tomorrow.

Is Fred just stuck in a permanent cycle of illness? Feels like he's either off the air because he's sick, or on air and sounding like absolute shit because he's still sick.

Fred’s voice is so fucked today that it’s actually amusing. When the bankroll boys were on, I couldn’t tell if it was Fred or Lifshatz talking.

I know a number of people who've essentially been sick for 4 months at this point. With all the crap going around people's immune systems seem to be just getting hammered one after another.

My least favorite part of the show is definitely anything to do with gambling. So I guess today is podcast day..
I like it in limited dosage. Thursdays 7-7:40 are perfect IMO. The first segment is just usual T&R with them in studio and then 10-15 min on gambling related issues. That's plenty for me, I know Fred feels the same way from what he's repeatedly said as well. I don't see gambling taking over T&R.

Edit: I know some of you really don't like Joe Murray, but I just turned on the Zo & Beetle simulcast and he's on. Holy shit, he wasn't kidding when he said he lost 80 lbs. He looks so much better and healthier.

I don't know why, but for reason hearing him this morning touched a nerve. Was just like dude take a couple vitamins and try to get some cardio in 2-3 times a week.
Meh.

Gambling wise, I don’t mind one segment a week talking lines and picks. It’s the “intrigue” over the legalization talk that has my eyes (ears?) glazing over. Hopefully they can put that stuff behind them for a while now.

Rich at Media Day/Super Bowl is always fantastic. That was some funny stuff with Kelce, Minshew, the guy reading the lead about the DA Show, etc.

Somehow Grey really does come off worse every time I hear it.
The delusion to call up everyone after the show trying to get them fired is always hilarious to me as well. It's Jim Gray. Dude thinks he's Scott Van Pelt or something.

I never understood why Grey was so pissed in the first place. Some guys on the radio are curious about your private dinner with some of the most famous people in the world and asked some innocuous questions about it. He's supposed to be a broadcasting pro, why not just smile and give vague answers so you don't come across as a big a-hole?

I just rewatched the video of the interview. Grey absolutely had an ax to grind before that interview even took place. Just looking at his body language and how he is condescending with even his first comment. My guess is he kind of new they (T & R) talked about him and poked fun of him fairly regularly.

Either way, great radio.

there was a story back when it happened that Grey didn’t know who they were and thought they were Dennis and Callahan and Minnihane and went on with an axe to grind I forget the exact details.

I think they had said something during that season about Brady’s kid maybe? But yes I remember that speculation he just thought Boston radio meant those guys.

It was definitely that Gray was too stupid to realize he wasn't talking to the guys he was mad at on behalf of Tom.

My favorite part of that trainwreck was Jerry Rice watching the entire thing unfold and then immediately taking T&R's side while making a snide comment about Gray.

"I know Tom, Oprah knows Tom..."

*edit* I should add, I adore that Fred shut the thing down.

I believe the pics were Portnoy/Barstool. The comments about Brady's daughter being a pissant was from Alex Reimer who was part of the D & C show
Oh shit, I forgot about Reimer. That was definitely what it was. He was the absolute worst.

Disapointing that Fred isn't in the day after the Super Bowl. Hopefully he's just late. Today should be a great morning of T&R, but will not be if he's out.

[Deleted. Clearly, the poor guy is dealing with a massive throat problem.]

On Friday he mentioned finally getting to a doc to have his throat/ voice checked out. Maybe he's under doctor's orders to rest his voice for a bit.

I mean he was at the Celtics game yesterday afternoon. Doing that and then missing work the next morning isn't a great look, however you slice it.

Anyone else find it odd that it's been two months since Jones left yet 98.5 hasn't named the replacement show?
Given the layoffs in the fall I wonder if they're content to pay a revolving door of fill-in guys $40 an hour or whatever their going rate is and just save some money compared to a dedicated full time host.
I remember when Keefe talked about leaving for 'EEI he said he enjoyed his time at 98.5 but that they wouldn't give him benefits (health insurance, 401k, etc) so he felt like they forced his hand even though he was a full time host alongside Jones.

new here - but follow this thread on occasion. my guess is that fred went to the ear/nose/throat doctor - and probably needs to rest his voice for a couple of days. going to a basketball game with your daughter has no bearing on him resting his voice.

I dunno, Fred is SUPER into the Celtics. I'm not sure that he'd be able to control himself after his favorite player Jayson Tatum did some slammajammahs. :)

deep inside Guido territory
With school vacations next week in Boston, Toucher and Rich are taking the week off. Monday and Thursday it's Joe Murray and Ted Johnson, Tuesday and Wednesday it's Jon Wallach and Dan Roche, and Friday it's Joe Murray and Phil Perry.
