If the Celtics are upset with Fred over that one joke yesterday, which was not even remotely serious, it's another point on how badly they've handled this thing. Fred making a joke should be at the bottom of their list of things they should be concerned with right now.

I don’t recall them even suggesting it jokingly. Dan Lifshatz asked if they were ok with speculation and they immediately shot him down. Later they sarcastically referred to that exchange, but I don’t recall it being floated even jokingly. I could’ve missed the segment though.
OK. I didn't hear it, I was just going off the earlier post. I can understand Fred then and agree that it is insanely tone deaf by Lifshatz as well as completely irresponsible.

Fred at one point going into a break (it may have been at the end of that segment) said something sarcastically like "we'll be right back where we'll spend the next 2 hours guessing who it was". It was clearly a joke, no way serious and after they shut down Dan. If someone's upset with that to the point it got back to the show, they need to go worry about something else.

I disagree a little.

Sounds more like Fred should be pissed at Dan who is part of the show and did bring it up. Female employees of the Celtics were harassed on social media yesterday due to these irresponsible and moronic witch hunts. So yes, I can understand a call, email, whatever to the show to re-iterate that the Celtics feel any discussion of the person's identity is irresponsible and should be completely off limits. Doesn't mean it is the Celtics top priority but they do have responsibility to try to protect their employees from harassment.
Toucher and Rich were probably not the only ones that got reached out to and I doubt they just singled out Fred's remark.

Dan has been causing a lot of controversy for the show. I’d say that’s a “good” thing if you’re in radio entertainment, but I don’t think Fred (in particular) appreciates it.

The lady (Fred) doth protest too much, methinks.

Fred loves to play the victim. Though true (and appropriate) he didn’t want to get into speculation about the other party in this situation, his hissy fit this morning was contrived, and demanding that the Celtics call up the Program Director and apologize was stupid. All for show..

The Grant Williams interview was fantastic and one of my favorite in a long time. His excitement of Katan was fantastic. I got that game and years ago, started to read the directions and gave up. I needed Grant to come over and show us.

Ha, I had the chance to catch-up on that in the podcast this afternoon and was about to post the same thing. I know Rich was ribbing him, but hearing a professional athlete genuinely geek out was awesome. Much better than the copy/paste questions and answers that normally dominate those events.

Rich wasn't really ribbing him I don't think but Rich loves this stuff. Not to play, but he finds it fascinating and fun. He's not Wallach, but he's not the cool guy either. It sounded like he enjoyed it so much and was so looking forward to it.

With all the Celtics BS with Ime going on, the Pats not being great and Mac getting hurt, the Sox sucking, I need more fun like this in the morning.

Did Rich ask Jaylen about whether he'd play?

Agree with you both - it was a fun segment and you could tell Grant was into it.

Edited - Fred is back in the hospital with the same foot issue per his IG.

I only caught the last half of the JB interview so didn't hear it yet and I'm on work calls. Fred opened the show again about his foot, he sounded extremely frustrated. His doctor can't give him an IV, so he needs to go to the ER for it, he doesn't want to go to the ER since it's not the place for a routine IV but has no choice. He called his doctor at one point and it sounded like he got them to get him an appt. He was in pain again, I'm not sure what's going on, but sounds like a giant pain in the ass.

I follow him on Instagram (only to keep ahead of the latest trends #influencer), but it looks like he might be out for a bit. Hopefully they're taking care of this once and for all and didn't fuck up the diagnosis when he was getting it checked out previously.

That sucks for Fred. People can shit on him for a lot but he’s gone to his doctor I think 3 times and now 3 hospital visits and is getting nowhere. Plus you have people who post about him faking it and not believing it. Hope he ends up OK and gets this thing solved.

Brown was also funny when he said, “Once you get to know Grant, you grow to love him… it took me about two years.” :D

Rich also asked him if he thought Marcus Smart would like the Katan character name that Grant bestowed on him, and Jaylen said, “Marcus would probably tell y’all he liked it, then come in here and say the complete opposite to us.” It was very funny, brother-type humor.

That's a bummer, but glad to see him say it's drama free and hope it stays that way for them. Don't know his situation and obviously kids is a very complicating factor, but sometimes it can be for the best long term.

I didn’t listen to the opening segment to hear if he addressed it, but Fred took down the IG post and haven’t heard them talk about it whatsoever since I tuned in. So, yeah, maybe another terrible “joke” again?

being divorced I’m signed up on some online dating sites (because I hate myself) and for a few weeks I kept getting matched with a 47 year old Stephanie from newton sho looked strangely like Fred’s wife. I resisted the urge to message steak and eggs

actually now that I look again it’s been updated and it’s definitely her

Uh, sorry to hear about Fred. :(

He's been doing radio spots recently about the new shed in his backyard and usually says something like, "My wife hates everything, but she likes the Reeds Ferry shed!". I guess it wasn't as tongue in cheek as I assumed

Yea, I don't think this one is a joke. He probably took it down because it will spread like wildfire (it probably already has) and somehow his kids will be asked about it. Yes, total speculation.

He was referring to “the guy that used to be his father in law” during a segment this week. Now I get it.
I caught that as well and assumed it was coming. I didn’t think Stephanie’s dad died but couldn’t remember. Hope it works out for them and it’s for the best.

Fred adding his mom to the collection of his characters was unexpected, but hilarious.

I could see Fred being incredibly difficult to live with. He often seems grumpy and in a mood, almost joyless. Not hard to picture him as someone who's constantly mopey and dropping passive aggressive commentary.

Fred talking about “his friend” going back into the dating scene. This could actually make for some interesting and funny new bits going forward.

I tuned in to catch Rich’s breathless “Next season Kraft is gonna dump Bill for Sean Payton and bring back Brady for one last run.” Because he admittedly “roots for chaos” he was at least a bit genuine in thinking it should happen.

I like that they don’t take sports seriously, but that was one of the dumber things I’ve heard lately even if it was tongue-in-cheek. The kind of stupid take even the midday show would have a field day with.

Hadn't thought of that. I'm assuming that this has been in the works for a while if his EX is on a dating site, so hopefully he's hanging in there.

On an unrelated note, I love Fred's imitation of his mother. It reminds me of my mom and some of the inane things she says and does. Let's just say I'm glad it's not just me.

I thought Fred has sounded "better" these past few days. Happier, more in tune, etc

I've only listened off and on, as I usually do, but he didn't sound like he was sludging through a bitter split

Funny, I had the same thought listening this morning. Almost like a weight was lifted off of him. Who knows, but he's definitely been genuinely enjoyable to listen to.

Honestly there were many times I would listen to him talking about her on the show and I would just be amazed they were still married. I really don’t think he could sound any more miserable than those moments so I don’t really think he’ll be driven to drink by this. I mean going by this thread it seems like an amicable divorce so maybe (hopefully) he’ll get through this in good shape

Agreed. I recall (erroneously maybe) after Fred came back from rehab he seemed angry at his wife/family that he had been forced to give up drinking. Hope to be wrong about it

didn't rehab start when he came on the show hammered saying Stephanie wanted a divorce? I'm gonna guess she stuck with him through all that and when the dust settled they decided to part ways......

Small clarification, I think it was sleeping meds or similar (he’s adamant that he’s never been drunk on air since their drinking bit days). I never heard that segment/episode but read about it here and have heard them talk about it since. Kinda glad it’s not in circulation, he deserves the chance to move on.

I knew that was the original story. Not sure if it changed over time (ie he originally wouldn't admit to being drunk but later did)

I don't think he ever admitted to it and I do not think he was ever drunk/drinking on the air. I think it was more that he called in "sick" somewhat frequently. The excuse he was giving was that he "had the rhia".

In any event, he seems very happy this week. They alluded this morning to one of the special guests for the show. Fred said that long time listeners will be pumped and V.I.P. ticket holders might get a friend for the night and the next morning. Crash? Adolpho?

We all have our blinders on in certain areas but wow Fred just now defending Draymond Green for throwing a punch at Jordan Poole (video is now out) was something else. The man can literally do no wrong in Fred’s eyes.

I’ve been assuming it’s Crash all along. I miss that guy so much! I wish he was still on the show!
