RIP Toucher and Rich Show ... It was fun while it lasted

Let's establish roots by creating fan fiction about Fred's financial situation, inability to split Lockhart's salary with Rich, the hostile work environment talk, and so forth. What's happening on this forum today is much more rooted in potential truth than the crap that was circulating on here 2-3 weeks ago before Fred rejoined the show. The only difference is a bunch of us with time on our hands this holiday weekend took time to create accounts and chime in.
There's nothing wrong with any of that from my perspective. It does bug me when random folks show up and trash the guy with some pretty lame accusations not based on anything. I think Fred would own being a dick, which he definitely is at times and what makes for good radio, he's just not constantly a drunken dick. Especially to post that as he may be going through some mental health stuff and may actually read it himself. I just find that a bit mean-spirited. Not any different than what I'm sure he gets on Twitter or IG, but this thread doesn't need to be that in my opinion.

This continues to be the weirdest thread on SOSH. And that’s saying something.
Easy, son. I'm not your friend, buddy, I’m not your buddy, pal. I'm not your pal, guy. I'm not your guy, friend. I'm not your friend, pal. I'm not your pal, buddy
Apparently I’m the gatekeeper! Or maybe the keymaster? Now we’re crossing sports.

Instagram post from Saturday night has been taken down along with his tweets. Freddy, if you’re reading this brother, I’m really pulling for you man, I really hope that you’re taking some time to get the help that you need. We’re concerned for your well-being!

Outside of the stupid shit in this thread, I agree. Whether it’s physical problems, mental problems or addiction I hate to see anyone deal with it. It’s fun to crap on Fred for a variety of things he says which is part of his appeal, but people rooting for him to be unwell doesn’t sit well with me. Fred’s provided so much entertainment for me I always hope hes ok.

I wish he’d stop posting ambiguous statements online of how he feels with no explanation. That’s the kind of shit that made me quit Facebook 15 years ago. I’m expecting Rich, Walldick and RJ tomorrow with no explanation of anything, hope I’m wrong.

No, it isn't your "status" that makes me discount you, it's Fred's history of saying the sky is falling that makes me question your critical look at the situation.

I was concerned about him the first few times, but I am out now. And as I said above, I hope I am not wrong. That's all I've got now.

I was at a bar today and the dude next to me said he heard that Fred is the guy that the movie "Fire from the Sky" is based on and his recent troubles have ripped open the wounds from that horrible night?

Have you seen the tweets and IG post? Out of respect for Fred if he ever reads this I won't post them but there is no doubt you treat what he posted seriously. I work in the field and those were comments you never, ever ignore. This isn't Chicken Little, but I understand why people would think that if you haven't seen the posts and are judging solely on past (especially recent) history.

I don’t read his or any social media directly. In case you haven’t figured it out, most of Facebook and Instagram and Twitter is bullshit.

I have read everything posted here every time he has a crisis, because when I lived in Boston I listened to the show daily from the start. He seems to enjoy drama. Is there a mental issue? I am far from qualified to say, but that may be what’s wrong here.

well. He sough help for alcohol abuse is going through a divorce and had voice issues which couldnt be figured out for awhile and threatened his career

he seems like he is a drama filled mess and should be forced to go on an extended break.

and don’t get me wrong. I feel for the guy. I went through a divorce and had a terrible health issue myself so I get to some extent where he must be right now but he needs to be off pf social media and needs to be given time to get healthy. Otherwise it’s going to be rich and Wallach and that will make your ears bleedd

Not surprising, but no Fred and no mention of Fred.

Also looks like Fred deleted the last month of Tweets for some reason.

Alcohol abuse and divorce are terrible, and it’s great he sought help and hope it worked. Having a voice issue as a radio performer is really serious, but we agree, the social media drama associated is just a huge and successful cry for attention.

I was just thinking how much the next few months are going to suck now without Fred (if he isn't back soon) that the B's and C's are out, the Sox are mediocre, not much going on in with the Pats. I'm guessing I'll be tuning in a lot less.

That's smart. Honestly, more people should be deleting their tweets. I used to have a scheduled deleter thing until Musk shut down the API access.

I think it would be even smarter for almost everyone to delete their social accounts anyway. I think the ship has sailed on "Influencer Fred".

Hoping for the best for Slippery T. The show needs both the guys.

Fred seems to be among the many people who use social media as some kind of bizarro therapist and/or an attention-getting vehicle. I get it, people have done the same thing here for years. Someone close to him should really block his access though. Mostly because I'm sure his kids see those posts, and making vague self-harm threats is a horrific burden to put on them.

This is the thing that upsets me the most. Putting aside the fact that he’s in the public domain, his kids likely see or hear about all these posts. Once he gets treated properly for his mental health, I think he needs to delete his social media all together — at least for a while.

Just a terrible situation all around and right when the show was finally looking like it was going to get back on track. I can’t imagine he will be back on the show any time soon, which is even more unfortunate now given the now relative dead period of local sports topics to talk about. This is where Fred adds so much to the show. Hope you get the help you need, Fred and are back on your feet soon!

For most of us it's a quick dopamine hit and we move on. For public figures, it invites the worst and dumbest folks on the internet to lash out toward people they have some unhealthy parasocial relationship with. Fred's admitted he reads the replies and he can't keep himself away. Delete 'em all.

Years ago when Twitter was really getting to him he had Stephanie change his password to something he didn't know so he could literally not log in. I wish he had someone for him to do that now. I know he has said that she really helped him through his throat issue, so maybe she can do that again and still help him out.

I lurk on the Twitch feed from time to time, and Mike Lockhart just posted on there that Fred will be back on Friday. Also, looks like Fred erased his Twitter account. (Good.).

I heard Rich say to Wallach regarding his play-by-play talent: "You're not long for this show. But, then again, who is?".

Hopefully a joke.

I didn't feel that Rich's tone re Fred was ominous... I think it's just a fact that if you work in a reasonably-sized company (even media) it's not appropriate to discuss the health status of another employee without company approval. I just think Rich was trying to be super careful about the words he used, as he should. I was encouraged that he said that Fred was a friend and has been for a long time and that Rich et al want the best for him (if he's listening). That's more than was said earlier in the month the last time Fred went off the rails.

Rich's statement made it sound like something serious was going on, but he did seem very supportive of Fred:

"I've been a friend of Fred's for years and hope for the best for him."
"Hopefully we'll be back together soon. Fred, if you're listening to this, we're rooting for you."

Just listened to Rich's update and reading between the lines, I'm a little surprised if Fred is really planning to be back on Friday. I hope he's prioritizing his mental health. Deleting socials is a positive sign I suppose.

I certainly don’t know what Fred is dealing with, but I know from personal experience that structure and routine can be immensely helpful while going through difficult times. So perhaps it’ll be good for Fred to have the schedule of the show to give him milestones to achieve. I’ve never gotten the sense that Fred lets the show itself stress him out.

And I do hope he’s off social media entirely. It’s a cesspit and he’s using it in a very harmful way.

Yes, I'm wondering now if that Friday return date Twitch statement by Lockhart was a bit premature. I haven't seen that posted anywhere else for what it's worth.

His instagram is still there for now but it really needs to go too. People’s comments on there are pretty shitty too. (I’m talking about old comments, I didn’t look for any new ones. People are just fucking toxic, man!)

Based on the timing of comments here, I am discerning Rich spoke about Fred at the end of the 8 o'clock hour. Can anyone confirm? Also, noticing the 8 and 9 o'clock hour podcasts are not on the website for relistening...

Edit: controversy averted. They are on Spotify.

I just listened to it on the podcast and its sounds like whatever happened between Fred and Rich is behind them and Fred's got some serious things going on and everyone's onboard with him getting better. Rich seemed extremely genuine in it and wasn't faking it, he seemed like he was almost going to break down talking about it.

I have zero idea what's going on and hope Fred gets better. Maybe it's mental health, maybe it's physical issue, who knows. I do find it odd that I spend most of my time here defending Fred and the show, although calling out where he's been nuts, that the two times he's called out SoSH it's directly related to my posts (well really JMOH who loves porcelain dolls and has a giant foot fetish). I hope he get whatever help is needed and we can get back to normal. I've said it 100 times, I need T&R in the mornings.

I heard Ice Cube on WTF earlier this week and I was practically begging Maron* to ask him about the porcelain dolls.

* I'm not sure how he'd know about this, but it would be cool if he did.
Maybe Fred will PM you on this and also get your scripts for the Gimme a Break Fan Fiction, you know Fred would eat up all of it. He's masturbated to Nell at least once I believe.

T&R has been a staple for me since their 3-7 slot back in '07 on WBCN when I moved back to Boston after grad school. I can't see it go.

I feel like Fred's sour feelings toward Rich during his throat absence were quelled. They must've talked off air. It's clear Rich was/is on a gag order, and with or without the green light from management he said just enough this morning to let us know it's serious and that he's not remaining quiet about it on purpose. I am not sure if it was ominous of anything but it was definitely not promising.

Man, I hope you're right.

Rich's comment mentioned above - "who knows if any of us will be here" hit differently this morning than some of his more recent statements. Following it up with the "we have a 26 share and this is what we get for giveways" (re: Irsay tickets and a hat). I think management has been fucking with these guys for awhile, and Fred's issues are a separate issue altogether.

This.
Given what's gone on with the station and even what other hosts have said about their being no money Beasley seems like an absolute asshole of a company to work for.

This was my take also...there was one quick point where I thought his voice cracked, but then he held it together.

I’m cautiously optimistic that things will be ok. I hope Fred takes the time he needs though. As much as it would suck for him to be gone a long time again, I want him to be better.
