Fred sort of giving Wallach crap for not being there this morning is kinda rich given the enumerated days he’s been missing. Wallach is trying to further his career and doing something he enjoys doing. Way to go Freddy T…

Adam Jones on this morning is literally just the worst way to start my week. Said Zappe should be the starter going forward, and that tonight is the biggest game of Mac’s life, even bigger than the fucking playoff game last season.

Fred definitely reads this thread, he just directly referenced the criticism of the Dave Richard segment I did last week that it’s always all about his team.

I thought he admitted as much during his melt down a year ago.
I'm not sure he remembers it from what he said when he got back, but he was definitely reading this thread live on the air including some of my posts during that last morning before he left. I always hope he doesn't take any criticism here as super negative and we're against him. I literally listen to 2-3 hours of the show most days depending on work but at rare times it can be cringeworthy. Mostly around when Rich gets too excited, digs his heels in and results in 20-30 min of awful radio. To be fair, Fred is aware of this as he's fought Rich on the air when he gets like that.

Fred's also said a million times he has a Google Alert setup for his name, so he reads everything. Young Nicholas also said once in chat that when Fred was in rehab he was on Twitch. I don't post much on Twitch anymore, just too busy doing other things but that chat can be BRUTAL on Rich. Everyone loves him but can't stand him when he gets to be whiny and annoying.

Oh yeah, any criticism I give is literally just me doing it here because there's no other forum or anything like that where I can specifically talk to other die hard fans. I love the show, I'm going to the Xmas party and can't wait for it.

He "jokes" about this a lot. "OK now on to my team because that's all I care about....who should I start between...."

nah this was much more specific than usual. He said he received “email” from people complaining about him only talking about his specific team.

If Fred does read this thread - and I think we know he checks in - buddy, if you see a Sticker Mule package arrive at the station with your name on it, just know I had a discount code to use on getting a t-shirt printed and had no other ideas on what to do with it.

I’m on that from time to time. When they go after Rich, they hit the paint HARD! I mean, they do like him but that switch gets flipped real quick.
It really stems from when Rich states his opinion as FACT and then spends the next hour defending it and anyone else has to be wrong and he gets all upset and yelling. If you're on Twitch his arms are flailing back and forth.

It reminds me and my brother of this kid we grew up with and every time it happens I get a text from my brother with "Kid's Name" Rich is back!

That and when COVID was rampant Rich would relate EVERYTHING to COVID. I was much closer to Rich's stance on COVID than Fred's but even then Rich got so annoying it was unlistenable at times. The Twitch Chat murdered him over that.

Is Albert Breer a troll? Or is he a good reporter? I really can’t tell.
Probably a bit of both. Either way, I personally find him much more entertaining than some of the other reporters they call that treat football a tad too seriously for my taste. Plus he has a great rapport with both Fred and Rich instead of just one, which is kinda rare. One of the segments I always find a way to listen to even if it's on podcast later in the weekend.

Totally agree, I enjoy the segments on Fridays as well. When he gets to discussing the Pats though I feel like there's some hostility there from all his years covering the team, so I take what he says about them with a big grain of salt.

I was fucking dying laughing at their annual spookiest person around the 98.5 universe this morning. The whipping sounds when Peter Gammons talked had me crying.

Fred mentioned on the show this morning at about 7:05 that he received the shirt. He worked it into a joke about Kraft’s awkward congratulations to Belichick for being the 2nd winningest coach in NFL history.

Is Wallach the full time Celtics radio guy now? I joined in late and it sounds like they’re celebrating Wallach.
Is Mike Gorman still doing a lot of road games this year or is he cutting back on that? Because that’s maybe why Wallach is going to do more games if Grande is bumped to TV.

That could be. Grande promoted the game against the Cavs tomorrow on his Twitter using NBCSB and not the radio so he could be doing it on tv.

It’s also Wallach’s birthday today.

EDIT: never mind. Looks like Gorman was literally absent for a a few seconds. Probably a bathroom break. Yeah so maybe just starting to lighten up on the road schedule. Huge opportunity for Wallach.

Grande is doing 20-25 NBC Sports Boston games this year. Mike is still doing most of the East Coast road games, but has been sick of travel for a couple of years now. This is a good compromise. Wallach will fill in for Grande when he's doing TV.

Does Mike Gorman still live in New York? I used to run into him at the (now defunct) Kenmore Sq. Bertucci’s when I worked there in 2003/2004. Really good guy. He used to fly in for home games and stay at the hotel across the street. I’m assuming he moved back to Boston if he’s sick of the travel.

Wallach isn't bad on radio. Although Grande on a Chick Hearn-like TV/radio simulcast would be a fun experiment.

Ha, that’s great. I have the hour cued up on the podcast feed for later. One of the all-time great soundbites they have elevated. Maybe I’ll send Rich a “5-15-75” design next time I get that deal.

I’ve really appreciated them going in on the Kyrie situation this week. It’s unbelievable to me that the league let him off the hook for promoting that shit. As they said, imagine if another player tweeted out a link to a documentary that denied slavery existed. Batshit insanity.

What happened with the show and Brad Stevens? I tuned in a little late, but it sounds like he blew them off for a scheduled interview today, and they had to scramble and had Chris Forsberg call in instead?

Fred said right after the Forsberg call that were never going to have Brad on again. Yikes.

They mentioned it in passing last week but sounds like both T&R and Brad didn’t want to do the interview anymore and parted ways.

Fred has complained about Stevens because he doesn’t bring the yuks and doesn’t play along with Fred’s occasional foolishness like Ainge did. I thought Stevens had a wry sense of humor that Fred didn’t always know what to do with, but Stevens still gave straightforward answers to basketball questions. From Stevens’ standpoint, I’m sure it was aggravating dealing with them. I’m guessing both sides just decided to walk away.

Yep, I think this is a fair take. I didn’t find Brad as humorless as they did, but a weekly Forsberg hit will be better radio. There’s probably only a handful of guys like Ainge in all of sports and I think they got very lucky with him.

I agree, he didn’t seem as lifeless as Fred makes him out to be, but he was also pretty careful and guarded. Was definitely not catering to the vibe of the show, the way Ainge and most other guests do. I think the Udoka situation put that into pretty stark relief.

Not sure I’ll be able to catch it live, but I’m pumped for “what’s in the bag” today. It’s going to be an awful train wreck, but we don’t often get bits like this where both Fred and Rich buy into it with such glee. Reminds me of the throne game they played with toilets.

The Fred/Stevens thing has been brewing for awhile now. When the Udoka stuff broke, remember someone with the Celtics called a higher up to complain about the way Fred was alluding to who the staff member was? Even though he didn't even do that, it was a total joke and he did absolutely NOTHING wrong. He had a classic rant about the Celtics and dealing with Stevens then so it really isn't surprising that it's coming to an end.

Joe Murray during the Mike Gorman interview was really painful. Fred had to intervene, Mike being such a classy guy it wasn't a big thing but cringeworthy radio.

Yeah, if Wallach ends up getting the full time C's radio gig come next year when Gorman retires, I don't think Murray will be a great long term replacement as the Flash guy.

He insisted on trying to talk to him about food and what he was having for lunch today. For yucks or something. It was cringe.
I get what he was trying to do, but it was wayyyyy too aggressive. Veering off topic is fine, he just did it incredibly awkwardly. Mike is a pros pro though, nothing shakes him.

“Mike. I don’t care about the Celtics and nobody wants to talk about the NBA. I did a segment earlier about food. What did you eat for lunch?”

To Joe’s credit, identifying a roast beef sandwich by smell and feel earlier in the show was pretty incredible.

Just pretty disrespectful to bring on a Celtics legend insider and tell them that he's tired of talking basketball.

Veering off topic in this case is something Fred should do, Rich should do sometimes and the 3rd chair should never do.

Ha, I had the same thought myself and fully agree with your order. Rich is OK at it to start interviews or pivot if it comes up naturally. Fred can do it anytime he wants because he's the best interviewer on the show by far. It came across as incredibly dismissive to outright suggest you don't want to talk about basketball with an NBA legend, good intentions or not.

I like Joe Murray more than most but that's because I usually hear him on weekends when there isn't much to discuss that hasn't already been discussed a billion times, but this is who he is. Food, gambling, wrestling, cool spots in the North Shore and generic sports takes. I think he will probably be first in line to replace Wallach (unless they can get Keefe from across the street....or wherever it is now) so I'd hope someone sit down with him to remind him the morning drive is a little different than 10AM on a Saturday.
