Technically yes, he says something along those lines, that the Pats have their quarterback. But it's incredibly backhanded. For example - are you really saying a team has 'found' their quarterback if you keep insisting that that player's ceiling isn't particularly high, especially in comparison with those taken ahead of him (despite 10 weeks of evidence to the contrary so far)?
He said today that Mac is the AFC offensive rookie of the year.

The Pats get a lot of fluffing, and have for 20 years. I don't need Fred to do it too.

I think his point is that pre-draft, most analysts thought Mac was the most pro ready with a lower ceiling than the other first round QBs. The first part has certainly proven to be true. It's whether Lawrence/Wilson/Lance/Fields reach a higher ceiling that's still up for debate, which we won't know for years. 10 weeks isn't close to enough time to reach a conclusion on who's the best of the five.

He certainly likes to dig at the Pats, but sometimes I think people reach for reasons to call him a hater.

The show certainly needs him to be contrarian, and it suits him well. But the idea that Pats fans (or Boston fans) have different blind spots than other fanbases is a bit over the top.* And for whatever reason there are no strong voices to counter him. Rich and Wallach spend all their time trying to steer Fred back to the middle. Once a decade Joe Murray stirs in his sleep and mutters something. It’s not really a problem because whatever Fred’s saying, the dynamic of the show works and the entire package is 99% entertaining.

*It’s actually amazing to me as somebody who grew up as a pre-2001 Boston sports fan that the so-called problem with us now is “you’ve had too much success to be able to handle mediocrity”. It’s like telling Andy Dufresne that since he’s been on a beach for a minute he can’t understand prison.

This whole Rich has to teach his kid how to use a razor thing is so confusing. I don't have a teenage boy, but do you really need to teach him how to use a Mach 3 or whatever? We're not using 1989 plastic Bic razors that you could easily cut yourself. Do kids really "slice up their face" by accident?

I taught my son to shave this summer, and you do have to make sure they know how to do it, even with the vastly improved razors we use these days. Keep in mind that teenage boys typically have a lot of pimples, so in my case I had to make sure he knew how not to end up with a dozen bleeders along with usual nicks.

I accidentally nicked myself shaving yesterday and I'm 47.

How to shave with and not against the grain, etc. There are things 13 year olds don't think about.

I'll be the dissenting voice and say no. At least if by teaching, you mean more than a 10 second conversation. That's including time for the response along the lines of "thanks, not an idiot" that I received from my boys.

My dad never taught me how to shave and I never showed my sons either. They both seem to do fine, although my oldest probably does more trimming of his beard than shaving these days.

Tanguay saying the part of his book where the backup quarter snorting Molly off of a barista's breasts and implying it's based off of Zolak was something. Sure Zo's thrilled about that.

they changed the subject pretty fast after that. the audio book will be a staple for the shows content

This book is such a bad idea for the Boston Sports Media. Tanguay is a desperate attention whore who can't keep a secret and is probably a terrrrrrible writer. If sure that all of the names will be changed so slightly that no one will know who's being written about. Scott Zolak? Zcott Solak, backup quarterback for the Boston Meatriots.

Some of the amazon book reviews are great: "If you like football and erotic cops, this is the book for you.".

I just went back to listen to the interview. Pure insanity and I love it. Announcing his upcoming signing at a dispensary was incredible.

This morning we got Nicky McChuckles and an epic interview with Brandon Merriweather. I love this show.
Good for Nicky for doing that. That had to be brutal. If you have the chance go watch the replay on Twitch. Fred and Rich were dying.

I don't know how Nick did that. I felt so uncomfortable just listening to him. What a great skit!

Did I really hear Meriweather say that you need to be "wrapped and ready" before getting in the water for hot tub sex?

Yes. Followed by Fred saying the condom would just fly away if he tried that
Fred also claimed that jumping in the hot tub was the only way he got laid when he was younger and lived in Detroit. I was dying laughing during this whole thing.

Fred and Merriweather have a great rapport. It's one of the better regular segments they do and it hasn't gotten stale.

Steve O has been good every time he's been on. He comes across as a pretty thoughtful guy for someone who does stupid stuff for a living.

I'm out of market and listen to the podcast. I end up hearing more of the show than most, probably, but it's usually a few days old by the time I get to it. As such, the evergreen material is my favorite, and especially the voice characters and impressions that Fred and Rich have developed. Since it's Friday afternoon and why not, I tried to think of as many as I could. Here's an informal ranking, worst to first:

21. Old John Henry (Fred)
20. Adolfo (Fred)
19. Adolfo (Rich)
18. ‘Nam Vic Fangio (Fred)
17. Nick’s Dad (Fred)
16. Gruden (Fred)
15. Larry Flynt / Al Davis / Pervy Old Guy (Fred)
14. Intense J-Stew (Fred)
13. Post-High School Hesher (Rich)
12. Flustered James Corden (Fred)
11. Old Crotchety Racist / Titillated Southern Preacher (Fred)
10. Eddie Money (Fred)
9. Matthew Slater Ph.D (Fred)
8. “Cold Cuts” McCartney (Fred)
7. Chachi (Fred)
6. Hippy / Grateful Dead Enthusiast (Fred)
5. The Jagr (Fred)
4. Old Crotchety Racist / Titillated Southern Preacher (Rich)
3. Naughty Paul Stanley (Fred)
2. Wizard / D&D / Rush Enthusiast (Rich)
1. Fetish Enthusiast / D.A. (Fred)

Fred obviously does the bulk of the lifting here but Rich chimes in with some quality work as well. The D.A. stuff is just gold to me.

Didn't he also do Josie Scott from a trash can or something like that? Or am I getting that confused with Paul Stanley in a laundry hamper?

I don't listen as much as I used to, but I still think of the time Fred first found out about D.A. and feet. I want to say they were playing a clip of DA interviewing some woman in his studio and they started talking about her feet and Fred LOST it because he thinks foot fetishes are hilarious.

When things come up organically like that, it is the best radio in the world in my opinion. I also remember when they first called Wallach an eagle and I want to say it was because Wallach was saying something positive about Flacco and Fred was asking him why he liked him so much and he laughed and said "is it because you also look like an eagle?" and it just went in from there.

I mean it when I say that this show has brought me more joy in the last 15 years then almost any other show/podcast/movie, etc. Just last night my wife, my friend, and I were talking about the old drunken Red Sox recap with Daylin and laughed about if she knew how often we referenced her, she would think we were obsessed with her.

Oh man, great list! I’m inclined to move Jagr higher in the rankings, but it’s hard to push out any of the top 3. The DA character is a clear cut #1. I’m also mostly a podcast listener at this point because the app is kinda a pain to use and I don’t commute as often as pre-COVID. Hopefully they’re still getting a decent cut from it.
