I can't believe that anyone would think Fred is having personal issues or "bitched out" of going. I certainly wouldn't. Please dont read my posts above this one or I'll deny them.
Looks like Fred has already stopped by here. Either that, or he's incredibly intuitive!I can't believe that anyone would think Fred is having personal issues or "bitched out" of going. I certainly wouldn't. Please dont read my posts above this one or I'll deny them.
LOL, sounds like he's been reading our thread.I'm onboard the Jim Gray conspiracy train!

I'd be willing to bet they have to pay for the space to broadcast from and the hourly or whatever fee for that. Plus production equipment, etc....Last year's Jim Gray interview was one of the best things I've ever heard on talk radio. I'd personally pay for Fred to fly down to Miami if they could talk to him again.
FWIW, local radio budgets must be tinier than I could have possibly imagined. One of the biggest stations in Boston can't afford roundtrip airfare to Miami, 3-4 nights at a hotel, and per diem? That's like $3,000 all in, I suspect.
Isn't that infrastructure already there for Rich? He's on Radio Row and I imagine there's not a huge incremental production cost of having both of them there.I'd be willing to bet they have to pay for the space to broadcast from and the hourly or whatever fee for that. More ”talent” on site would mean more equipment, and more production staff needed. They’d probably have to pay for a bigger booth, too. Plus meals, hotel rooms, plane tickets, cab vouchers and various other incidentals all add up. And then there’s the issue of nagging Fred to go there (if he’s reluctant to travel if the Patriots/his favorite team aren’t playing).Isn't that infrastructure already there for Rich? I get it. So triple my estimate and call it a cool $10K for Fred to go. Still surprising to me that the most-listened to morning show in Boston can't monetize that.More ”talent” on site would mean more equipment, and more production staff needed. I can see why it’s not worth it after a Mickey Mouse cost/benefit analysis.
What was the Jimmy G stuff?I listened back to the Saved by the Bell hour and wonder how the hell Fred and Rich have inside sources close to Shannahan/49ers. Bizarre. It sounds like they were really confident on the Jimmy G stuff.
They kept making reference to knowing someone close to the team/Jimmy and said the narrative about Shannahan ‘protecting’ Jimmy was BS based on their mutual friend. They also made reference later in the show about an inside team nickname implying Jimmy is stupid, but I wasn’t paying close attention during that hour. What was the Jimmy G stuff?
I caught part of this. They call him Dirk Diggler. No, not because of THAT...but when he does something good in a game, he just be like..."Can we do it again?!?!" like Dirk said in Boogie Nights. They also sort of implied that the actual play called in is very very simple because he can't process it. So when he hits on something, he gets excited. They kept making reference to knowing someone close to the team/Jimmy and said the narrative about Shannahan ‘protecting’ Jimmy was BS based on their mutual friend. Really? I thought it was cringeworthy. The Ray from Baltimore was the only funny one.The Bob Fesco(sp?) segment from today was absolutely hilarious. Fred was gold calling in.
Ha. Same. Guess it was just right up my alley.I loved it. Then again I like those super awkward things they do like that.
You must love today’s episode. Everything is awkwardI loved it. Then again I like those super awkward things they do like that.
He's missed a noticeable number of days and/or been late over the past year for being sick. Hope everything is ok.Fred was out today, which is cool because everyone deserves sick days. However, he was pretty damn dark to open the show on Monday when complaining about weekends being miserable and his wife being a nag and I hope it’s not related. Normally there seems to be a lighthearted tact to his cynicism that makes it funny, but I wasn’t picking up on it in that segment. All that to say I hope everything is good with him.
Obviously, I have no intimate knowledge, so this is pure speculation. I don't think it was brought up in this thread, but a few months ago, Fred said that he was going to go a month (I think he specifically said 30 days) without drinking. They had a solid 15 minute discussion on when day "1" had been. He said he couldn't remember. He said he hadn't drank so far this week (I think it was on a Wednesday) but he was just going to go and say lets "I am at 5 now." He could not say whether he had a drink the previous weekend or not and kept deflecting it. Rich and Wallach really didn't press him much. I also remember him being out on that week's Monday show and Rich and Wallach were laughing at his "ria problem. But they also mentioned how it didn't seem to affect his drinking the day before...so it struck me as very odd that they did't bring up Sunday's drinking on Wednesday. When they came back from the break, there was no more discussion and I never heard about his sober month again.Fred was out today, which is cool because everyone deserves sick days. Fred basically admits to being a mostly-functioning alcoholic. From what he says he's routinely going to bars by himself all afternoon, would rather drink than do his kid's sports, he tried Sober January for the 5 days you talked about, complaints about how bloated he is all the time and other tidbits here and there. I'm not judging him, we all have our issues, but i wouldn't be surprised if alcohol significantly impacts his life negatively and he's getting older which isn't helping.Obviously, I have no intimate knowledge, so this is pure speculation. I laugh every time it happens. It's his crutch. "has anyone worked a job where someone was mean to you? 617-931-0985!"I'm so tired of "Have you ever had this happed... call 617...….." every single time Rich is in the big chair without Fred. It's rarely humorous and just crappy radio... because I care about some random dude exaggerating a story about he quit some place.
I turned it on this morning just after 7AM and it was the first thing I heard him say.I laugh every time it happens. It's his crutch. "has anyone worked a job where someone was mean to you? 617-931-0985!"
It happens at least 8 times a show when he's in the big chair.
I think they replayed Mike Gorman calling in yesterday to tell a story. He said at the open they would play it again at 7I turned it on this morning just after 7AM and it was the first thing I heard him say.
Also, his interview with Ainge right now is cringe worthy.
This was probably closer to 7:30. It was along the lines of "Has anyone ever found a body part anywhere? Call in"I think they replayed Mike Gorman calling in yesterday to tell a story. He said at the open they would play it again at 7
Agreed, and treating any speculation at all as newsI do really like Ty though and enjoyed that segment, they should pivot back to more Bruins/C's talk instead of continuing to pound the Brady stuff into the ground.
One per week! I hated them at first, but I have no admit that I'm starting to find the awkwardness amusing.Fred now doing entire bits on Saved By the Bell episodes?
