First what was their beef with Michael Rappaport? They kicked off the interview with the tweets about how much he sucked and I thought they were friends with him at first and were busting his chops until I realized they had never spoken.

Second, Wow I never realized Rappaport was such a prick.

Rappaport has burned a bridge with nearly every show he has been a recurring guest on: Dan Le Batard, Bill Simmons, Barstool Sports, just off the top of my head.

There's nothing really that weird about him, but I'm addicted to Nick's dad. I don't know how T&R keep finding random hilarious people like this.

Have they ever mentioned what happened with Brandon Meriweather? Troy Brown is fine but a bit vanilla.

Today they were talking about Merriweather wanting back on the show soon. So I suspect he just didn’t want to do it anymore.

Honestly I thought it had run it’s course by the end of last season.

I'm enjoying Troy in studio a lot more than I ever did Merriweather and like 8slim felt it had run its course. Meriweather was fine for some comic relief but I think Troy adds more depth to thier discussions about the Patriots.

Plus Meriweather was never able to get Brady to call in under a pseudonym haha

That was awesome... I mean unless it was the same guy that used to sound exactly and I mean exactly like Francona, that HAD to be Brady right?
I totally believe it was, his voice is hard to miss! He probably just didn't want to make K&C salty by using his name.

They said they are hoping to have Meriweather in at some point this season. He has other obligations like his restaurant and didn’t have time to do the weekly gig.

Can you bullet point his complaints? I did not hear it.
He was basically saying the China trip was dumb - especially so close to the season - if I'm thinking of the same rant. Not really that controversial imo.

Heard 30 seconds this morning. Wallach: "Well, Barnes pitched the 6th, not the 8th. Its obvious what Cora thinks of him." I hope he's reading, although I doubt he can. Barnes retired the 2-3-4 hitters in a close game. The "8th inning guy" that Wallach seems to think is a real baseball position instead of a crutch for the simple-minded, got the bottom of the order.
Yeah, its obvious what Cora thinks of Barnes.

I'll admit that move made me nervous last night, but if being brought in to face one of the toughest middle-of-the-orders in all of baseball in a close game doesn't shout confidence then I truly, truly don't know what does.

I haven't listened that much lately but Wallach, despite being thought of on the show as the nerd and baseball guy, never evolved past a 1999 sports radio host. He always falls back on the tired old
-Long man/set up/closer
-Should have bunted
-Slugger doesn't get enough RBI
-Pitcher wins!
You'd think being the baseball guy on a big morning show in Boston he might put in a little more effort but I actually thought Fred had a better understanding of modern baseball. And I guess if the standard is "better than Mazz who actually hosts something called the Baseball Show" then why try?

Fred brought up this exact point this morning. Alas, Johnny Wallbanger stuck to his guns.

Nick's dad is an absolute joy. He sounds so happy all the time doing the most ridiculous things. 'Well, every corner is for booze.'

I'm glad they only bring him on sometimes, he's a treasure. I was dying at work listening to this.

Recliner A, B and C!

Mark is a gem and seems like such a great way to go through life. He seemed very upset Fred wasn’t coming by.

Fred of course trolling all Sox fans, saying “Cowboy” Joe West clearly got the call wrong.

That is to be expected but at least there is some dissent on 98.5 with the other 2 who think it was correct, on WEEI all 3 hosts were saying terrible call and it was a home run. Greg f%#*ing Dickerson who for some reason is on air this morning doesn't even know the rule, and said that just by Mookie reaching over the wall and contacting it with his glove it is absolutely a home run. He got grief from KKKallahan but that's what we are dealing with (Boston sports radio), folks.

And now he’s having them doing an in studio “science” experiment to “prove” that there is no way the fan could force Mookie to close his glove. Good Lord.

Maybe this is why they've only spent ten minutes talking about the Red Sox all season. What the hell is going on? Fred is insane.

It's one of the current staples: Troll the straw-man homer fan by reflexively taking a contrarian stance and copping a tone of intellectual/moral superiority.

I don't have an issue with someone claiming the play wasn't interference because the ball was over the fence/in the stands and that's how the rule should be interpreted, but Fred was claiming that Mookie's glove wasn't physically interfered with at all, that he simply closed it too soon, which is utter bullshit.

What's worse is I'm 99% certain Fred doesn't actually believe that, he's just doing it to troll, which means he's become what he's been shitting on lo these many years.

This. He used to be somewhat understated in his contrarian takes, but lately he doesn't even try to withhold his disdain when trolling Pats, Sox and sometimes C's fans. B's fans are an exception, as Fred is legitimately a diehard Bruins fan. He's just simply becoming more and more of a plain dick.

Just like Mutt on EEI this morning, who was claiming that it's impossible for a fan to close the glove of a "world-class athlete" -- while simultaneously claiming that said elite athlete had "just mis-timed his jump." It seemed clear that this was the position he'd decided to stake out for the sake of stoking argument, and he was reveling in the outrage of co-hosts and callers who challenged it.

I'm sure this is a set-up take for F&M: that West's 'out' call was payback for Astro cheating because Manfred didn't have the stones to do anything about it... = Fake Win.

1) I was under the impression that Fred had his tongue in his cheek at the start and then adopted the take for the sake of the "science" bit.

2) I think it is possible, not probable, that Mookie mistook the jolt from the fans hand for the ball contacting the glove and then reflexively closed his glove to execute the catch.

to me, it looks like simple inertia. The "fingers" of his glove hit the fan's hand and stop. The "thumb" part keeps moving in the same direction which closes the glove. The fan didn't push the glove shut.

Fair point today in Schilling not being invited-basically implying that even if he’s a right-wing nut job, he did a bit more than Alan Embree.

Can't have all 25 guys from the 2004 squad throw out the first pitch. Frankly having seven of them was a bit much, but the guys that were there made sense to me. Three of them were there for national TV (Pedro, Papi, Millar), one for local TV (Wake) and others are actively involved with the organization in some way (Foulke, Varitek). Embree is really the only one that stands out to me. He lives across the country and isn't involved with the team much.

But still, that Schilling wasn't invited shouldn't be a story. Unless all 24 of his teammates were invited and he wasn't, why single him out? Where are the articles and sports talk chatter asking why Cabrera or Mientkiewicz or Leskanic or Timlin or Bellhorn or Manny weren't there? Such a non-story.

Even if they invited everyone on the team but not Curt Schilling it would have been the right call. I am sure some of those guys support Trump and vote Republican, but none of them except him have revealed themselves to be a bigot and an asshole. He’s divisive and would have been a distraction during what is supposed to be a complete feel-good pre-game ceremony. The Sox were totally right to exclude him.

Bird drives me crazy. Why is he even on the show? He brings nothing to the table.
His story about nailing his girlfriend for the first time in the back of a Honda Pilot since she was too bashful to go into her house was pure gold. Since then I've heard a number of Honda plugs that they've been doing while specifically mentioning the Honda Pilot. I so want this to be because of the Bird story.

The video on their Instagram of Fred finally getting his bike is hilarious, I'm not sure how it played on radio though. After all the talk, Fred didn't seem like he knew how to pedal a bike. He was out of breath just walking it down the hall lol
