Fred's annual "summer vacation rant" was pretty funny, but yeah, the show took a bit of a nosedive after.

I'm thinking with baseball on hiatus, all Boston sports radio is on partial standby mode until Goodell's announcement on Brady's appeal comes out this week.

Then: let the "hot takez" begin!!
I'm honestly not looking forward to this at all, Sports Radio is going to suck no matter which way this decision goes.

For the next four days it's either going to be Goodell or Ortiz-is-a-selfish-baby (what has he ever done for Red Sox fans, anyway?).

Maybe Adolpho wasn't so bad.

Wait...has there been some indication that the word is coming down this week?  Or are we assuming that Roger is going to maximize the attention it receives by stealing MLB's thunder during the otherwise down news cycle?

Goodell implied it on CNBC last week.

He didn't.  He was running away from a CNBC reporter and basically when asked if we will hear news "next week" he vaguely shouted (again, running away, so he was literally shouting his non-response from 50 feet away) something to the effect of "Could be".

Wasn't it the T&R fill-ins who talked about this "interview" last week?

Yea, the vacation thing was funny. The segue to the guy talking about how he had a plane was solid. After that, I threw a podcast on because I give zero fucks about Adolfo interviewing his dad about his childhood.

Maybe it's the dog days of summer but I'm more excited about the prospect of 98 Mile than just about any other potential topic.

Did they announce that they are bringing back 98 Mile?

Just listened for a few minutes today and I believe 98 mile starts today with Zo vs Jimmy Stuart

8:00 and 9:20. They said they are not putting them on the Internet, so you can only catch them live.

I'm surprised they're not including it in the Podcast at all.

Maybe something with clearing the songs they use? I have no idea how that works but it's the only reason I can think of. I thought James Stewart's was great

My thoughts was ratings and forcing people to listen to get numbers during the summer?

Can't post them "By no fault of our own" so they don't have a say in this

In today's day and age that is nonsensical.

They said it's a corporate decision and out of their control. They recommended getting a friend with a boom box to record it for you, old school.

Yeah, I think it has more to do with sampling the songs and rights related to the songs. At least that's what I got with "it's a corporate decision".

I loved both. I've been back and forth on them all morning. Tough call, but I voted for Zolak. J-Stew will probably win though.

I thought J-Stew was great, Zolak wasn't nearly as good as he was in the past.  A great hook J Stew Hates Daaawwwwggs was funny, but the rest seemed to be just him yelling insults into the mic and Rich cleaned it up.

J-Stu was much better than Zo, who just yelled random stuff the second half. Some of the stuff was funny but still...it was literally him going off on a rant and there happened to be music in the background

Here's my scorecard:

Production value: Zo. Rich did a great job cleaning it up and inserting random Zo-isms.

Humor: Zo. I thought Zo did a better job at the comedy aspect--pear shaped bodies and ectoplasm got me.

Put down/biting edge: J-Stew. The CTE/clipboard, Brady nuts on chin, and career killer comments were cold bloodedly hilarious.

Delivery: Push. I like Zo's frat rap approach but it's hard to beat J-Stew's flat affect/serial killer delivery.

Net/net I'd probably give it to Zo since I agree that his bar his higher.

Zo was just yelling shit over a beat like a white frat Lil John

J Stew seemed to actually be making an effort to rhyme so I had to go with him.

Also I'd wager that not putting them online has everything to do with sample clearance.

I'm sure a fan will put them on YouTube

They're in the podcasts, despite what they said.  They aren't separate files like in the past, but on itunes they put up the whole show hour by hour and they didn't edit them out

I gotta go with jstew, he had non stop awesome insults and the creepy cat fetish was incorporated perfectly.

On the voting site they do say it's due to copyright issues. Good to know they still are included in the full hour versions of the podcast

Great. On felger and mazz they said lawyers didn't want to get in a royalties situation due to sampling. Doesn't make a lot of sense.

Trenni's "rogue" rap was pretty good.  Alot of funny jabs, but she absolutely BURIED Sean McAdam.

I was underwhelmed. I expected a lot more out of Rich Keefe. Mazz was pretty par for the course, and he had two great lines in there. But, overall, both were worse than Zolak's and JStew's. The Suzyn Waldman stuff from Keefe's was... not good.

Mazz should win this one.

Yeah, the Suzan stuff was whatever, but he had a great first 30-60 seconds with some of the insults. 'Toucher and Rich made you funny, Felger made you money' was pretty good.

eh. There's like literally nothing else sports wise to talk about right now and it's 10 minutes a couple times a day. Harmless fun that they all seem to enjoy.

"98 Mile" lost its fast ball in terms of the quality of raps from the first run a few years ago.  Still, I enjoy it.  Rich was REALLY hyping the Wallach v. Bertrand match-up for tomorrow.

I was really bothered at how much they kept harping on one of beetles lines being axed. Awesome you guys heard a funny line now please go on about how we can't hear it.

Today's battle was a C- at best.

Wallach's had me on the floor. The Bertucci's line with the post grumbling sound effect was brilliant.

Yep. Both had me laughing out loud in the car. That is the first time this year's contest has done that for me. I though Wallach took it though.
