I was actually thinking about this on the ride in this morning, Wallach has been pissing me off a lot more than he used to. His interjections are stupid, he has no sense of humor, and he's just flat out wrong on a lot of stuff. When Crash was there, he was a perfect guy to read updates and be the butt of some jokes. Now that he's trying to contribute, it seems too forced. It's been a gradual decline but it's finally hit the tipping point for me.

Bring back Intern Nick.

I saw Adolfo last night in Allston driving to host my trivia gig. He looks like he lost a ton of weight.

IMO, the problem with Wallach is that he is trying to expand his role on the show beyond flash guy and the occassional prep or question of an athlete interview. Wallach simply isn't smart, funny or interesting enough to play a significant role on the show, yet T&R seem willing to give him some lattitude, which hurts the show IMO. Relegated to his reduced role, I think he's pretty good, but if he has an increased role, then he's lousy. Recently he's been lousy because we hear him too much. Shit, there are times when Fred sounds like he doesn't want to interrupt him, which is absurd.

I've noticed this too, it's gotten to the point where it seems that he has no problem interrupting Fred or Rich to interject his opinion (which he feels is gospel) but doesn't want to be interrupted. Even worse is when either of the guys disagree with him or he gets passionate, he voice changes and he gets whiny. Try to re-listen to his opinion on why NY shouldn't have the Superbowl, he couldn't even defend his position without falling back on the same 2 talking points, Felger would have torn him apart.

Today I listened from 6-6:15 and Wallach talked for about 11 of those minutes about Ellsbury...I turned it off and did not return. he is horrible and I don't know why he gets so much air time.

It got a lot better, I listened from 7:30-8 and Fred would only allow him speak in short sentences and quickly cut him off when he started to go on a tangent or repeat a point that he made earlier.

Yea while it was funny, the public perception of Boston now in Hawaii is probably that we are all idiots when it comes to basketball. Adolpho was asked his thoughts on the 2-3-2 series format, he had absolutely no idea what the hell the guy was asking about.

Same here. For some reason, those bits are a lot less awkward when the other party is drunk and/or homeless.

Why should we care about the public perception of Boston in Hawaii? I'm sure your average Hawaiian had Adolfo pegged as borderline retarded within seconds, and that he's probably not representative of an entire city any more than Ben Affleck is.

Imagining this exchange is pretty awesome. So much so that I may just choose not to listen to it.

I'll keep you guys posted.

Driving somewhere most likely
All of them were great, throwing in Vic screaming "Dunkin Donuts!" during Rock and Roll all night...etc The production of those songs were great..as Fred said to Rich "You are really, really good at this."

Yeah I caught that comment too. I think what prompted it was that Rich had to actually slow down Vic the Brick's to match the song when they played it at the end. If you notice the original dictation then the combined lyrics are at different speeds.

Another epic moment this morning when Fred hung up on Bill Walton.

Apparently, this interview set up weeks ago to honor Father's Day. Then Walton gets on and:
  • starts talking about how proud he is of his son.
  • insinuating that this is more important to him than his '86 championship, since "you always want the best for your kids"
  • says that the Celtics could have avoided this had they won game 3.
  • starts genuinely douching it up.
Fred, realizing that he was bleeding listeners, hangs up on him. May have been a "work", but still funny.

I don't think that was a work at all, I think Fred was legitimately thinking that none of his listeners wanted to hear that anymore and had enough. Good for him.

I only thought it was a work since Walton didn't mention Fred or Wallach by name. It's more likely I'm full of shit, though.

Listen and judge for yourselves.

Does Fred Toucher read this forum? It's certainly not beyond the realm of possibility.

Anyway, he just posted on his facebook this:

QUOTE
Just to help prove the Walton interview wasn't a "work" a portion of the e-mail confirming the interview: BOOKING PRODUCERS, Below you will find everything you need for your upcoming interview on Friday, June 18th with Bill Walton. Friday Bill is available to discuss his role as Dad and his support of his son. He’ll also share his views on the results of the recent NBA finals.

It just moved from "questionable" to "irrefutable".

In all seriousness, that's pretty cool if it isn't one. Walton certainly deserved it.

Heh. I noticed a few other people using the term "work" there. I'm not down with the wrestling lingo so didn't realize it was a somewhat common term.

Hilarious bit this morning making fun of Rick Reilly and his love for Lance Armstrong. It was just before 8:30. Fred referred to Rick Reilly as the Family Circus of sports writing. DukeSox would've been pissed.

I've really enjoyed the Taylor Twellman segments during the World Cup. He seemed to gel with T&R right away. Today was pretty good as they were getting on DA (in for Fred) about his mancrush on Taylor.

This show is PAINFULLY bad without Fred there. I've been a listener since the WBCN days but with no one there to tell Wallach to shut the hell up it's ipod time for me.

I actually really like DA with Rich, but Wallach is a fucking moron, I have actually been yelling at the radio telling him to STFU.

Wallach is campaigning hard to get Trevor Hoffman here. I totally see where he's coming from - this bullpen could really use a 43-year-old with an ERA over 8. The real question is; do we have the prospects to get it done?

That was insane. Is Wallach really just stupid or does he just pick an argument simply to have one?

I like the interplay between Rich and DA, but it's really obvious that Fred is the driver of the show; when he's out they seem rather rudderless similar to when Opie is out on the O&A show. The show is still good, but seems to meander without any kind of set path.

That is true on the air, but isn't Rich the mastermind behind most of the bits they do?

I think both of them, albeit in different ways, are equally responsible for the show.

Although yes, on the air you could definitely notice Fred's absence. DA wasn't bad with Rich, but nothing really stuck out. It was very sports driven today with DA, which does not play to Rich's strength.

And I would take Meter over Wallach...can't believe I'm saying that.

You're right about Rich and Fred's role - they bring different but important parts to the show. My point was just that without the driver, the car is less useful, no matter how well engineered and built it was.

"I'm sitting next to a DA-hole" was the best line they have had in months, so Fred's absence gave them that at least.

Some new Naughty Massarotti today - I like how they don't go back to the well too often on this one, so they don't seem too played out.

Today included such gems as "nice Boston Globes!" and "I sure would like to see-see her Sabathias!"

Wallach makes this show unlistenable to me these days. Him going on a rant because someone corrected Rich's pronunciation of Illinois bugged the shit out of me. He's not funny or smart about sports. He has no role on the show.

Wallach seems to think that Fred is still on vacation and he needs to help fill time.

I'd actually be pretty surprised if they haven't had a conversation with him yet. His interjections derail the flow of the show instead of adding to it.

He's really awful. I've been a listener of this show since day 1 on WBCN but his presence on the show has lead to my listening to it less and less. I usually catch the first hour in the morning and would always podcast the rest at night, but now I'll scan the highlights and listen only if something really grabs my attention. I don't need to listen to Wallach derail every thought for 4 hours.
