In my job I get conference championship rings and I even have a College World Series ring. It’s not so much the actual ring that’s appreciated(it is), it’s a symbol of those in charge that they appreciate all the hard work that goes into a successful season. Jon should absolutely get one.

I didn’t listen to the show, but Fred was giving Wallach shit about accepting an NBA championship ring if offered one? Which would be appropriate since Wallach is an employee of the team?

The fuck kind of take is that?

If the Celts win, Joe Johnson will get a ring. That’s how these things go. It sounds as if Fred was bit by Adam Jones and is now a hot take vampire.
“It’s not a real ring, why would you want that??” Fuck outta here with that garbage argument. He really is in peak misery mode these days

No shit. A buddy of mine worked for the Pats in their season ticket office and got a ring when they won the Super Bowl.

It wasn’t the same ring that Tim Brady got, but I tried it on and you know what? It was pretty fucking cool.

At no time did I ever think, “Durrrr this isn’t a real ring. Get it off my finger!” It’s a cool thing that not many people have.

Fred would give his left ball for a Jets ring, so he can fuck all the way off with his bullshit.

Please how cool could it be? It’d be the same one the secretary at the Celtics office would get. -Fred

Monday’s show is gonna be torture. Between Fred and his miserable crap, Rich spouting off about “the rangle”, and Wallach running back and forth to agree with them both.. yikes, it might be a good week to skip the show

What constitutes a "fake" ring? As long as it's not plastic and tinted glass or something, who cares?
Usually the players, coaches and some front office people get big, blinged-out versions of a championship ring. The rest of the people in the organization (and it depends on whom the owners want to provide rings to, I think that Kraft was the first owner who gave literally everyone in the organization a ring back in 2002) get rings but they're less ostentatious than the ones the players get. In other words it might not have as many diamonds or other precious stones as the "real" ones. Which is still cool. Before 2002, most people got nothing; so it's a nice reward from an ownership group for being a small part of a championship season.

Anyone who says that they wouldn't accept one is either lying or lying.

FWIW, I thought it was pretty good show. Fred openly admitted that Draymond played dirty, but (correctly, IMO) equated his fandom to us all rooting for Marchand. He also clarified his ring stance. Good vibes all around including Fred being shunned by everyone in Portland, probably for being a Wallach hater.

Fair enough. I honestly didn’t listen, I decided to check out a podcast this morning (I have so many I’m behind on!)

I agree, I thought it was a solid show as well. I caught maybe half of it and all good. As Friar said, we got happy Fred and Snookie at 9. The first 20 min was Fred just fawning over the history of the Jersey Shore, which he has some how seen all of not once, but twice.

Hot garbage. Turned it on as Joe came back from commercial and lasted just long enough to find out none of the regular crew was in, then switched over to Stern.

I didn't have the chance to listen, are they just off today? I thought they were going to be at the US Open later this week.

This Lou lady is all over the place. What a whacko. Who calls T&R and "doesn't listen" then just calls in and rambles on a conversation she half listened to.

Tough look after installing that Price Is Right game to taunt Zolak. ;)

Meanwhile, Joe Murray seems like an affable guy, and I like the Bankroll Boys segment. But 4 hours is a lot, especially when gambling keeps becoming the focus. I only caught the 9am hour today, but when the NBA refs were announced he immediately went to the impact on the O/U. I mean, who cares? The vast majority of your audience is following this to see if the Cs can win tonight, not to lay money on it. Yeesh.

Gambling becoming "a thing" (and not some Jimmy "The Greeek" Snyder five minute time waster) is, by far, the worst endeavor in professional sports. I mean, it's not like this information is secret or from a person in the know. It's an asshole refreshing rotoworld and coming off as an insider. And worse yet, it's boring as hell.

This is really it. I enjoy a segment of it, but being a core part of every discussion is utterly boring.
Agreed on that. I like the bankroll boys segment, but more than an hour or two a week gets stale with the way they approach it. I think Simmons does a decent job integrating gambling without being awful about it. For example, in his annual long NBA O/U podcast predictions & the weekly hit with Saul, the lines are just a convenient way to discuss each team/game.

Yep, I was thinking of Simmons. Gambling talk is ever-present in his pods, but it usually is a jumping off point to talk about non-gamblings things. Plus, I find some of the gambling talk on his pods pretty funny -- or at least unintentionally funny when it comes to Bill's constant 'gambling rules' setting.

However, hearing someone profess to be an expert when they very clearly aren't is tedious, and that's Joe all too often.

I was thinking of Simmons too. I haven't listened to his podcast in quite some time, but I did like his weekly football columns where he'd go over the lines. Same thing for Norman Chad back in the day. They weren't really pretending to be guys who knew "everything", they would just, as you say, use the betting line as a jumping-off point to talk about the game. A lot of these new guys (thanks to place like FanDuel) feel like they have to exude some sort of super confidence about what they're talking about--and I get that--but at the same time, they know a hair more than me about what's going on in that locker room, who's "really" hurt and the matchups. And even if they knew a lot more than me (or anyone really), the fact is, no one knows anything. So to pretend you do is ridiculous.

As Smooth Jimmy Apollo used to say, "When you're right 51% of the time, you're wrong 49%."

The old EEI AM slot, 850, has now turned into an all sports-gambling format, and there are rumors this will eventually become the new format for 93.7 once ratings go to belly up levels. It's growing and it's here to stay, unfortunately.

Ugh. That sounds awful. Though I bet somewhere Eddie Andelman is laughing so hard, he's choking on a hot dog.

I heard a rumor that Greg Hill was done in the fall, wonder what's next?

I hope Keefe finds a home somewhere if this all falls apart. I genuinely like listening to him and the #Dork Podcast and he's much better most on sports radio. I wonder if F&M would be listenable if Keefe got the gig over Murray, but I'm sure Keefe would have just given up with them like Beetle did after 3-4 years.

So funny story. Turns out a friend of mine is getting transferred to the Brookline Star Market. I tried to warn him what he was getting himself into but… yikes good luck to him!

Comes down to Mike Gorman. He retires, Grande goes to TV, Wallach and someone split PBP duties, Keefe gives T&R a great new dynamic.

This could be moot with the C’s wilting. Gorman should stay for as long as he wants, but he’s hinted at liking the idea of walking off after #18.

Would Wallach even get main PBP consideration at this point? I’m thinking they try and find someone much younger. He’s likely missed his chance.

Some days I cringe when Fred goes on a rant targeted at one of the show members, but his rant today aimed at Nick was awesome. Just an outstanding tongue-lashing to stick up for the intern.

Fully agree, when Nick's job is basically answer the phone and keep Twitch running and he rips the Intern for this whole remote setup and throws them under the bus.

98.5 chose murray over keefe, that's why he went to weei. why would they change?

1. they're not going to replace murray who's show ratings tripled weei & keefe in the 2-6 time slot .keefe was then demoted to middays and now getting tripled by zo & beetle.
2, keefe didn't challenge adam jones, why do you thing he would challenge felger?

i wanted keefe to get a shot, he got one, he failed

Entering a bit of a dead period on the Boston pro sports calendar. Milo and Big Bang Clock were a nice little jolt of energy for the show today. Fred and Rich seemed pleased with themselves that they pulled off an unscheduled Fart Court for Fred's 14YO son. Was amusing.

Bill Burr putting Fred on the hot seat about his Brady hate is awesome. And Fred is trying to go to commercial break, and Bill won’t let him lol.

It was pretty funny, but I'm not sure I buy that Bill Burr truly doesn't pay attention to anything off-field.
