Mou must have some serious connections at Benfica
It's Jorge Mendes. So much of the finances around Portuguese clubs and players revolves around him.

He was the club's best forward last season and led the league in scoring. When Benfica was winning, he was scoring. Around the new year, his scoring slowed and the season turned into a car crash because no one else could effectively spell him. Benfica has been pretty bad in Europe that last couple of years, so I'm not sure if scoring just 1 goal in Europe last season is indicative. I lean towards it is.

He's got a good left foot. He's not a total poacher in that he can link up with the midfield, but he's still a project. It makes sense to me with Jorge Mendes putting the deal together and Mourinho seeing a guy who he can mold. I'd be more bullish on this if this was Jose Mourinho from 10 years ago. I'm skeptical because it is a big jump in leagues, he isn't that young for a guy who isn't a fully formed player, and Mendes deals are always screwy and not based around building a roster. Jorge Jesus appeared to be phasing him out, so this is a really great scenario for Vinicius.

Dele on the bench

Surprised that Hart got the nod, and that Dier didn't make the bench. Assuming that Sissoko wasn't match fit and that he would've got the start ahead of Winksy. Really bummed Sess isn't even making these squads. Dele should get at least 30 mins this match.

Also, game is tied 1-1 on long range strike. Spurs scored after 90 seconds, fucked around, got sloppy and frankly, it serves them right.

Opposing keeper is American.

And now they're back up 2-1 with header goal from Lucas off a corner.

Absolute banger, my word. Got the feed you sent loaded just in time to see it. Now Lucas with the Olimpico!!!

Edit: I'm an idiot, not an Olimpico.

They're 5 goals better than this team. They just got a bit sloppy after scoring so quickly.

The mic is way too close to Joe Hart for an empty-stadium game. I just loudly heard him scream "He's FUCKING FREE!!!!"

I think you'd need to remove mics from the whole stadium to not hear him.

Also I love it. Gives the Europa broadcasts a real flavor.

This is what I thought the end of last season's audio was going to be like. Even on the Peacock no piped in sound feed, you couldn't hear player-coach interactions. This is the best stuff, and yeah it's gritty AF.

Oh I like it too, I'm just surprised how clear you can hear the players cursing. Joe Hart could be a Revere bartender with his ability to slip "fuck" or "fucking" into nearly every sentence.

Spurs concede a PK. Sloppy again, now 4-2.

Not sure when he came on (half?), but he's getting some run.

FWIW, reports are that he trained very well this week and Mourinho was impressed with his attitude.

Kane with hat trick. Dele sprays it out wide to Bergwijn who finds Kane for a chip over keeper.

SERGIO ON FOR KANE!!!

After some qualifying games that were a little too competitive, it's nice to see them just come out and wreck these smaller clubs like they should. Not having to fly across the continent probably helps.

I'm always amused when European soccer teams complain about travel. Europe is small! London to Sofia, Bulgaria is only 1,250 miles. American sports teams travel much longer distances all the time. Even London/Baku is about the same distance as New York/Los Angeles.

Well yeah, but US sports teams typically perform much better at home than on the road. Soccer's schedules and rhythms are somewhere between those of the NFL (1 game/week) and NBA/NHL (2-3 games/week), so European football competition is something like to the NFL short weeks with Thursday night games. There's also the aspect of international travel (Canada caveats notwithstanding).

It hasn't been thaaaat long since Spurs signed a striker. Llorente was the last one three years ago.

Son and Dele are with team in Manchester per twitter.
I can't imagine Son playing until at least until the end of October.

Recently watched an interview with the former team doctor for the Korean national team. He put Son's return at minimum 3-weeks from the time of injury, assuming it's a grade 1 hamstring strain (some reports had it as a 2nd degree/partial tear).

Almost like Jose was not being 100% forthcoming.

This is the best Aurier has played in quite a while but Højbjerg has been a revelation. Reguilón has such a pace too.

What a difference this transfer window has made.

NBCSN was playing the crowd chanting “When the Spurs go marching in” even though the game is in Manchester.

There is an inherent cheapness to PK goals but you have to respect a guy that takes perfect PKs every time.
