Old friend Tony "clownshoes" Allen to the Pelicans. Good pick-up for them.
For how limited they were this off season, they Pelicans have had a pretty solid summer. Allen could potentially start and Rondo is a good backup PG for Holiday. Giving Jrue 5/125 is questionable given his health but I'm not sure how much choice they had. It was him or nothing.

They still have Jordan Crawford and Moore too. Pelicans are stockpiling old Celtics guards apparently. Crawford was actually pretty good for them last year in the 19 games he played. He added instant offense off the bench but you'd have to think his shooting was a fluke but he was also gone for 2 years and is still somehow only going to be 29 next month. It's possible he improved his shot or was put in a situation where he's always open.

With all that said, the Pelicans are still only like 7 or 8 deep and they are severely lacking wings, especially with the Hill injury. Like, to the point a 3 guard lineup makes sense. Who is going to give them height at the SF spot this year? They have no one. Maybe they could get something for Diallo. If they bring Cunningham back, I guess he'd work depending on his real talent shooting 3s. (.316 in 15/16, .392 last year).

I dunno about the Pelicans though. Even if Brow and Cousins blend well together which the jury is still out on, you have a team with little depth, awful spacing, and one that is extremely predictable. It's difficult for me to be bullish on this team with so much potential to be a trainwreck.

One team ready to make a leap took another step today with the Wolves bringing back Shabazz Muhammed which will be a huge boost to their second unit.

Split off from the NBA offseason thread

The Pelicans are inherently interesting because they have the most attractive and unavailable of trade targets in Davis, and one of the best bets for NBA trainwreck in Cousins.

Also, Tony Allen is a great fit: he'll get lots of playing time guarding wings. If he stays healthy, he'll make the Pelicans a much better team.

I'm on the opposite end of this spectrum. When Rondo OR Allen are in the game it will affect spacing and doubles on Brow/Boogie......what happens when they are BOTH in the game, internal combustion?

I'm with HRB, at least as to Rondo -- he's a terrible fit on the Pelicans.

TA is a spare part at this stage in his career. If you can get a guy like that who can contribute, it's on the coach to figure out where he fits.

I agree that TA "should" be a spare part but on this team they had E'Twaun Moore listed as their starting 3 prior to his signing.

Since I don't think you can play him and Rondo together on the second unit I'd imagine that TA is the Pelicans starting 3 on opening night.
