It's a long way until the offseasonThanks for asking, I'm pretty much rooting against the Yankees until Boone is fired.
I'm not going anywhere. It's a long way until the offseason
Yankees sweep. The 1978 stuff needs to end. We’ve got 4 titles.
But '78 is why I like to see them lose (or at least, chronologically-speaking, the first reason) ... although "Like" isn't a strong enough word.It has nothing to do with 1978 ... that's lazy posting
I've seen them win four titles, so I'm not going to get worried about a mediocre Yankee team
I just like to see them lose ... as many times as possible
Well, that's not quite true
"Like" isn't a strong enough word
I can't fucking believe Piniella stopped that fucking ball. He never saw it in the sun.Yankees sweep. The 1978 stuff needs to end. We’ve got 4 titles.
This post executed a perfect takeoff ... then Munsoned the landingit’s July, not September, and I will never, ever root for the Yankees. Fuck them
but I won’t be terribly upset if they sweep
Someone posted here one time (and I apologize for not remember who to attribute this genius to) how the Yankees could go 0-162 for 4 seasons in a row, and in season 5 start 0-161 and I'd still cuss when I saw that they won the last game of the season. It has nothing to do with 1978 ... that's lazy posting

I've argued for years that it wasn't him stopping the ball, it was Burleson being a lousy baserunner. There's no way a flat-footed Piniella could readjust and get enough on the ball to throw Burleson out at thirdI can't fucking believe Piniella stopped that fucking ball. He never saw it in the sun.
This right here. Who you root for has zero impact on what happens. Root for the Red Sox to win every game because it feels good and is the right thing to do. Root for the Yankees to lose every single game because it feels good and is the right thing to do.Because rooting isn't going to change the outcome, so why debase yourself by rooting for the Yankees.
If you're going to root, root against the Yankees, every time. If the Yankees happen to win and cause an offsetting benefit elsewhere in the standings, then that's just less reason for disappointment.
If you're cheering for a big hit by Wes Gardner, you'r not being irrational ... you're living in an alternate dimensionAt least I understand that I'm being irrational, and at least I am doing the right thing that feels good, not thinking crap like "Yes, that's a big hit for Wes Gardner, awesome! Hooray, Odor just knocked in a big run! Go Chapman, close them out!" Gross.
Haha, good catch! I am going to edit to the actual melon-headed Gardner. If you're cheering for a big hit by Wes Gardner, you'r not being irrational ... you're living in an alternate dimension
This strikes me as a straw man. I don't think anyone is talking about "rooting" for the Yankees in any given game, but rather coming to an an ideal 3-game outcome and "rooting" for that. Yankees winning the 1st two in extra innings slogfests, followed by a nut-punch loss works for me....not thinking crap like "Yes, that's a big hit for Brett Gardner, awesome! Hooray, Odor just knocked in a big run! Go Chapman, close them out!" Gross.
This!Would rather the Yanks still thought they should be buyers rather than sellers. Don't want them picking up young talent and shedding off underachievers.
So, 2 out of 3, Yanks

Sounds like HolmesSmarterBrother to me, and it's a sentiment I heartily endorse.Someone posted here one time (and I apologize for not remember who to attribute this genius to) how the Yankees could go 0-162 for 4 seasons in a row, and in season 5 start 0-161 and I'd still cuss when I saw that they won the last game of the season.
So yeah, that's it.

Exactly this. Exactly.Because rooting isn't going to change the outcome, so why debase yourself by rooting for the Yankees.

I made this like 10 years ago and it got me membership. Can’t believe someone still has it.
10 years ago means you qualify for the Hall of FameI made this like 10 years ago and it got me membership. Can’t believe someone still has it.
This is the sentiment I was going for when I said I’d never root for the Yankees, but wouldn’t be terribly upset if they win the series. I wouldn’t stoop to the level of hoping for it to happen, but it has a built in silver lining.Because rooting isn't going to change the outcome, so why debase yourself by rooting for the Yankees.

While this is correct, it doesn't work that way for me. I like to consider myself a kindhearted, rational person, and so nearly 100% of the time I think tribalism and irrational, non-scientific thinking are bad and at the root of most world problems. But since my lizard brain still has traces of those instincts, I like to safely direct them into the silly world of baseball, where I enjoy the fantasy that my rooting does affect the outcome, that good guys and bad guys are absolutes, and that my tribe are the good guys.Because rooting isn't going to change the outcome, so why debase yourself by rooting for the Yankees.

Yeah, fuck this. It’s not 1978 stuff. It’s in my blood and always will be.Yankees sweep. The 1978 stuff needs to end. We’ve got 4 titles.
Yes, yes, a thousand times yes. I couldn't agree more.Because rooting isn't going to change the outcome, so why debase yourself by rooting for the Yankees.

Fair enough. My loyalty is 100% to what benefits the Red Sox. I’d rather avoid a one game playoff.Yeah, fuck this. It’s not 1978 stuff. It’s in my blood and always will be.
He's apparently never being fired. Why? I don't know. It's the craziest thing.I'm not going anywhere.
Edit: In all seriousness, if I could pick between 92-70, the second wild card, Boone managing again next year and 84-78, missing the playoffs, Boone fired, I will take the second option.
This from the offensiveness-sensitivity expert who took the occasion to lecture us on the inherent sexism of Otto's use of the "b-word" in the ninth inning against the Angels the other night. This is a real Sophie's choice, except I want the Nazis to kill both kids.
How will you feel if the Red Sox lose the next three, the Rays win the next three and Tamps is in first place when their weekend series starts? GO MFY!!!I'm in the same boat as the person who wants both teams to lose every single game. That said, I hate the Yankees more than the Rays. A lot more.
This generally means I always want them to lose. But, I'm giving this a glass half-full look. I'm not going to really score-watch these games, so if I find that the Yankees lost, I'll be happy because the Yankees lost. If I find that the Rays lost, I'll be happy because our main divisional rival will have lost.
On the one hand, it's a horrible quagmire. But on the other hand, it's a win-win situation. Just depends on which way you're looking at it.
I'm also one of the most negative, depressive assholes I know, so I'm not sure where the fuck this ray of sunshine just came from.
…. Even worse than usual! This really does say it all.How will you feel if the Red Sox lose the next three, the Rays win the next three and Tamps is in first place when their weekend series starts? GO MFY!!!
