What’s the likely cost of cutting him and paying an injury settlement? Seems it’d be worth it from the Bucs’ perspective. Getting into some protracted food fight with AB don’t seem wise. Cut the chord, both sides take their medicine and move on.

Wait didn’t he look pretty spry running and jumping off the field?
I've seen a lot of people on Twitter running with this. I get it. But at the same time, these are crazy freak athletes and I think even in the worst of "can't go in the game" sorta pain, it's not crazy to think they can hop skip and jump their way off the field. He was probably so riled up at that point and did it anyway, assuming he was also in a lot of pain.

I was referring specifically to him blaming Arians for not helping him off the sideline.

Not to mention the "potentially dangerous" painkiller

The HIPPA / HIPAA / HIPPO jokes continue to give.
AB can authorize release of any info he wants.

HSS is widely regarded as a top ortho hospital. Don’t know Dr O’Malley but am asking around.
@DaveRoberts'Shoes - any thoughts?

yes. He was joking about the use of HIPPA instead of the actual HIPAA.

To be fair , even as an MD, I need to use ‘HIPAA is not a HIPPO’ to get it right.

edit - sorry @Preacher for ruining it. Or around here, Roethlisberging it
It’s fine. I’ve provided extremely infrequent HIPAA legal advice to covered entities during the course of my career and I generally have to look everything up each time and double check my memos/emails for correct acronym usage throughout.

We know even less about what motivates Bill Belichick, but I wouldn't be surprised if his thoughts were similar. This is what he's devoted his life to. As long as he's one of the best in the world at it and has fun doing it, why stop?
My old boss was friends with Belichick. They went to Wesleyan together.

I asked my boss this very question. What would Belichick do if he quit coaching football. He said without question Belichick would coach college lacrosse. Coaching is oxygen to the man.

The same is completely true for Brady. He will retire when he says he doesn’t have it anymore. He has thrown out playing until 45 before and sometimes more recently 50.

He will retire happy. If he goes out doing what he loves - however it is - he will have won. It’s about getting to the starting line as much as it is the finish line for Brady.

Ok, if he’s actually hurt, what’s the rationale for doing what he did? Wouldn’t you just seek out a trainer, or head to the locker room and talk about to later? Seems like an odd reaction, to say the least.

When the head coach has just told you are off the team? What the hell is the trainer going to do?

Brown obviously isnt exactly mentally stable, but if Arians cut him mid game for not going in while hurt, a blow-up isnt exactly completely unreasonable either. Basically Arians is a moron hothead.

You’re expecting rational action from an irrational actor? That seems like an odd reaction.

Whatever plagues AB, he has shown over the years to often respond in illogical ways to stressors.

He didn’t cut him mid-game.

Yes I know. I wasnt being precise, but the personal impact is the same whether he formally cut him or informed him was no longer on the team. Based on the reporting, Arians told Brown he was off the team if he didnt play.

Getting pissed and storming off the field after being told you're off the team for not playing through a serious injury doesn't seem too irrational to me, if that is indeed what happened.

MRI don’t lie.
MRI don't lie but it's also not not a binary test that spits out "the answer".

Sounds like AB has arthritis, a sprain, and loose bodies in his ankle. I can promise you 100+ NFL players are playing with those things right now.

It's certainly possible he has severe injuries and shouldn't have been playing, but from afar we aren't ever going to know. Depends how severe the sprain is, how severe (and how recent) the cartilage loss is, how much inflammation is in the bone, how big the loose bodies are etc.

The MRI isn't going to say "injured/not injured", "can't play/can play", "surgery/no surgery". There are also plenty of clean up surgeries players get in the off season so getting surgery now doesn't mean it actually had to be done now.

O'Malley is a big shot foot and ankle guy, I'm sure he has worked with plenty of professional athletes. Wonder if he knew what he was getting himself into here (and that his name would go into a statement like that).

They specifically address this in the statement. It's actually a very plausible explanation. We can choose to believe it or not. Part of the problem is that it's coming from AB.
There are no disinterested actors in any of the explanations we are getting for what happened.

But I’d bet money that there is sideline audio/video that NFL films has as they track all the teams now these days for all those different NFL media things. Plus I’d bet money just like Kraft Productions their is an in-house video crew doing stuff just for the Bucs own media.

Hell Brown or Arians might have been mic’ed up directly.

I look forward to the NFL's investigation into the fact that Brown wasn't on the injury report last week. I am sure it will be just like the investigation they performed when Tampa didn't list Brady on the injury report at all last season, despite the fact that he actually did have an injury that required surgery.

No team, including the Patriots, wants the NFL to investigate injury stuff too close.

Not sure I understand the Guerrero angle. Looks like he paid the money back to Brown.

The Arians texts seem photoshopped. That reads like a script.

Yeah, it doesn't seem like AG is the reason the work wasn't being done. He even said, "I understand you wanting to go in a different direction". AB might have legitimate complaints about how things went down, but doesn't look like it would be with AG

He's lashing out. That's what he does. He did it to Kraft. He did it to the Steelers when Smith-Shuster(?) got the team MVP. At best, he's off-the-scale immature.

I do not believe that the texts are real.
Nor do I believe that Arians was "acting alone," in the sense of he probably had info from team trainers about where AB was physically. How many times have we heard BB respond to a "how's the hurt guy doing," with: 1)"we'll follow the injury report rules"; 2) "he's working with the trainers and doctors"; and 3) "if they say he can play, he'll play." An accusation that the head coach made a unilateral injury call like that, mid-game, with no signs of trainer or doctor involvement, sounds about as plausible to me as accusing the head coach of making shitty Gatorade. It's possible, but very very unlikely. I'm really not sure why anyone would believe anything AB says about anything.

Yeah I mean unless it's your first time communicating with someone who starts a text conversation by introducing themselves? Very odd.

Old dude, old school. Some older people still send texts with some kind of signature. Love, Mom.

AB is deplorable, but I kind of believe his side of the story to a degree. I mean, something set him off on Sunday, so it's not crazy he could have a legitimate gripe with Arians.

As a relative fuck-the-Bucsman, anything that embarrasses them all is a positive for me.

I don't know how anyone can believe anything AB says. The guy has a multi-year track record of blowing shit up and lying about it, and I don't think there's even anything bad in those texts even if they're real. AB looks really dumb here in my opinion.

There's nothing bad, but apparently Arians said that he didn't know about AB's ankle. The texts, if true, show he did.

But AB is nuts and I don't like Arians, so I'm here for the chaos.

I don't know Bruce Arians. But does anyone believe that he doesn't know the difference between your and you're, would put ARE NOT in all caps, and would discuss active roster issues over text?

yes?

He’s an old white guy texting. It would be more improbable if his texting was grammatically accurate and without eccentricities.

Dude is 69 years old. I’m impressed he didn’t post that text as a Facebook message first, and then need his kids to help him figure out how to delete it

I don't know what to believe anymore but this is supposedly the first text from his coach he's received in a long time that Ariens needs to make sure AB knows who it is and refers to himself as "BA"?

Does it? He says "be ready to go" and "we're not resting" but he doesn't mention the ankle or any injury specifically. It actually almost seems crafted to avoid any specific mention of an injury in case AB pulled some shit like this. Much like Tony Soprano would mention "the guy" who needs to bring over "ten boxes of ziti" over the phone.
