Maybe he can find his place in the nether regions of some pitching staff. That Tampa Bay was reduced to picking up Jake Diekman is a parable about the shallowness of MLB pitching these days.

Unfortunately the Sox don't have much available in the farm system. I thought that Walter and Mata would be up here some time this year but it doesn't look like it's happening.

I never saw the upside of keeping Braiser on the 40 man roster during the off season. Final year of arbitration, Mid 30's, RHP. We could have kept Ward or Song or maybe have plucked some other player during the rule 5 draft.

This was a miss for Chaim.

Song, Ward and Brasier are none of one and no dozen of the other.

Meh. They'd have needed this spot on the 40-man at some point anyway. Maybe it's better they had Brasier to cut, and the book isn't closed on Ward or Song being returned. Brasier has been bad this season but it's not like Ward has fared much better.

I’m absolutely convinced that if Tampa picks him up he will instantly become a dominant relief pitcher. He does have a 97 mph fastball and a decent slider. Tampa seems to turn guys like that into hall of fame level pitchers all the time.

Good riddance, he's been thoroughly mediocre for 3 years, and has said some pretty racist stuff in the past, they really should have cut him then. I just pray that someone picks him up so I don't have to fret about him being called up again.

Wait. He did?

Agree with this. I'm not sure why Bloom kept Ort and Braiser on the 40-man and let arms with a bit more upside than those two go for nothing. I still don't understand the logic of these moves/non-moves.

Please don't hurl around shit like this without a reference.

Edit: I guess referring to Brasier's retweet of some comedians mocking Doc Rivers asking for social justice.

Brasier is a Trumper, but if we're going to turn up our nose at all the Trumpers, say goodbye to baseball.

I don't know about saying racist stuff, but a few years back he posted a video mocking Doc Rivers' reaction to the Jacob Blake killing.

As far as I know he took it down soon after and "apologized" (something something no malice intended something), but it was a pretty bad look.

He didn't say any racist stuff. He had one incident where he retweeted a retweet of some so called comedians mocking Doc Rivers. Braiser apologized and did not have any more incidents. He did not as you imply say any racist stuff himself and it was only 1 incident. You imply that it was more than 1 incident. I'm not defending Braiser so much as correcting the record.
I want to make it clear that I agree the video is very distasteful and wrong.

Adopting or promoting the words of another as commentary might as well have been Brasier himself speaking. It's why people do that - not because they're randomly hitting a button on social media. It was outrageous at worst, and in exceptionally poor taste at the outside best.

That said, Brasier apologized. It may be that his actual apology was ass-covering BS, but people should be allowed to save a little bit of face - the first time they put their foot in it. Importantly though, there was no second time (AFAIK) and you have to credit that.

I'm at the point where I wish Braiser well, and sincerely hope he has reflected upon, and rethought his earlier stances. Maybe he's a better person now. I'd like to believe that's so.

I absolutely believe this. If you are stressing about taking someone off the 40, you do it in Rule 5.

Much appreciation to Brasier for his time in Boston. He will be retired (someday) and have great memories to carry with him. What more could a guy of his level wish for in this otherwise rather cruel game?

I know a lot of people weren’t paying attention to the team in 2020, but Brasier was called out for sharing a social media post making light of George Floyd’s death. He apologized.

Edit: I seem to have mixed up which police killing he was mocking.
We would all do better to keep our own politics out of baseball.

Poorly worded post by myself. Technically he didn't "say" anything, but the video retweet was pretty bad. No other incidents since then as noted above, other than stinking as a pitcher.

Looking forward to his highlight video next time he returns to pitch against the Red Sox. Don't blink.

In all seriousness; he pitched for the Sox for 5 years during a difficult period of a single high year in 2018 and some team lows including a shortened season and difficult lean years. Thank you for your service; you will not be forgotten. It's a brutal business being a middle reliever but a results-driven business. He was consistently inconsistent.

yeah, I think the offensive retweet was bad and stupid, but not something one would normally lose their job over. The fact of that matter is that tens of millions of people, regrettably, agree with those kinds of sentiments.

I agree with the team keeping him over a lot of the other flotsam at the backend of the 40 man. It's a testament to how bad the end of the 40 man was that both Ort and Braiser were so safe for so long. it's a really good sign for this organization that the end of the 40 man isn't a parade of minor league middle relief prospects. Some of those are fine, but last year they had so many (German, Barnes, Seabold, Hernendez, etc.).
