Here's what the Sox came up with:

Kids 18 and under will be admitted free of charge and all other fans may gain admission for $5. All proceeds from the $5 tickets will be donated to the Jimmy Fund to supplement fundraising efforts from the 10th Annual Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon.

Fenway Park gates will open at 11 a.m. Wally's Clubhouse presented by L.L.Bean featuring various games and activities for children will be open from the time gates open until 30 minutes after the game. The Kids Concourse will be filled with family friendly entertainment. Immediately following the conclusion of the game, children will have an opportunity to run the bases, presented by Marshalls.

Red Sox concessionaire Aramark will offer a special kid-friendly $1 menu that includes Kayem Fenway Franks, cotton candy, popcorn, chips, cracker jacks, candy, and Hood sports bars. Select additional menu items will be available for half price.

It's a good plan. I think there will be folks upset about parking costs and about the "program" if the game is over in just an inning. Additional post game entertainment might be a good thing
I can see the issue with full price parking, but as far as the possibility of the game only lasting an inning, those are the breaks. If you aren't factoring in that possibility when you decide whether it's worth going to the park, you deserve to be disappointed by a short "program" of entertainment.

What happens to the original ticket holders? Nothing? Their tickets no longer valid? Do they get the adult tickets free? ($5 off 5)

It was previously announced that their tickets would be valid for admission.

Regarding parking, this is the one time for Red Sox games where using the 2 hour parking in Brookline residential zones makes sense. If people spend $50 for parking, that 's classified as a Darwin tax.

I would think that to give their kids a chance to run the bases would be worth five bucks and parking to a lot of people.

And maybe they can steal some infield dirt, too.

Game goes 6 innings you'll find a whole bunch of folks leaving early to avoid parking tickets
They can use the Bullpen Bar to leave and come back, or just buy an extra $5 ticket per car, and in any case that's only a $25 parking ticket IIRC. Also depends who we have pitching. With the normal cast of BP characters, doubtful on the 6 innings

I stand by my opinion that paying $50 on the 22nd for parking is a Darwin tax.

Brookline Parking tickets are more than $25, otherwise everyone would park there instead of paying $40-50 to park
You can't access the Bleacher Bar during games, and we don't know if it will be open or if the Bleachers will be open.

I expect the local lots won't be charging their full amounts for this game. Of course with it being a weekday day event many of them may not even be accepting ballgame parkers.

If you reread my post, I wrote Bullpen Bar not Bleacher bar. Formerly known as Who's On First. The place where you can get your ticket un-scanned. (So you can move it and then go back in)

You're severely underestimating the laziness and/or stupidity of the public.

My apologies:

1) The place is technically "Bullpen Kitchen and Tap"
2) Brookline has indeed raised the over 2HR parking fine; it's $30 now.
