There ought to be a law:
https://nesn.com/2022/02/ex-patriot-would-love-for-new-england-to-make-this-mac-jones-trade/
Jermaine Wiggins does not believe Mac Jones has what it takes to become an elite NFL quarterback.
However, the former Patriots tight end thinks New England can use the young signal-caller in order to improve under center.
Wiggins, now a co-host on “The Greg Hill Show,” took to the WEEI airwaves and pined for a Jones blockbuster trade in exchange for one of two superstar signal-callers who could be available this offseason: Deshaun Watson and Russell Wilson. Wiggins believes a Jones-Wilson swap, specifically, would be mutually beneficial for the Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks.
“I would love to trade him to Seattle because they clearly have issues with Russell Wilson,” Wiggins said, as transcribed by WEEI. “He wants out. Pete Carroll gets the quarterback that he can control for the price that he wants. ? And then you as the New England Patriots, getting back to the Super Bowl, because this is what it’s for, you get a top-seven quarterback in the NFL in Russell Wilson, who still has seven elite years ahead of him.”

I look forward to the click bait articles "FORMER PATRIOTS STAR PROPOSES BLOCKBUSTER TRADE FOR PATRIOTS TO LAND TOP NFL QB!"

Has anyone else been reading Chris Gasper lately in the Glob. It's a drumbeat of negativity. Yesterday was keep Joe judge away from Mac Jones because Daniel Jones; (has there been talk of judge being his "mentor," as Gasper suggested)?
Today it's "Celtics are good but not *that* good."
It's been mostly like this for a few weeks. I don't remember his stuff having this consistent tone.

He is desperately trying to stay relevant and the easiest way to accomplish that in the Boston media market is to go the Felger and Mazz route.

It all started with his constant negativity on Mac Jones and saying he won't be a good NFL quarterback. He's gone way downhill in my book.

Huh. I actually think that’s a step down for Aikman.

Re Gasper: I think he’s really intelligent and a fairly gifted sportswriter relative to his peers. However, his “straight takes” probably weren’t getting clicks at the Globe, so now he’s focusing on hot takes Instead. This makes him similar to Felger in my book; smart enough to know better, but a sellout to manufactured outrage and disingenuous hot takes. The result is that you know he doesn’t believe half of what he says. It’s pretty disappointing overall, to me.

I think that is what is happening. He’s always shown he has the writing talent, but he doesn’t write anything particularly interesting. I doubt he was getting the clicks at the level of Tara Sullivan, who frequently has interesting points of view, or probably any other columnist at the Globe. Going down the path of hot takes seems like a desperate move.

Step down for Aikman, step up for MNF viewers.

Imagine if it had been the bottom of the ninth and a homer there would have given the Yankees win (whereas an out would stick them with a loss) and he went through the whole "The Yankees win!" charade before realizing that they'd lost?

I'm sure it's been suggested before, but does John Sterling have vision problems? Like he sees Stanton take that mighty hack and the fielders (and cameras) all turn toward deep left-center so he assumes it's gone because he can't see the ball? Guess that still doesn't account for saying "it is gone" literally as it falls into Tapia's glove, so maybe he's not trying to make the call by cues he can see.

How the guy still has this job is kinda baffling. He's been known to do stuff like this for years.

As much as I hate the Yankees, I enjoy the hell out of their radio in a weird way. If the Sox have the day off, I'll grab some beer, fire up the grill, sit back and listen to them yammer away. It can be mesmerizing, at least for a few innings. Not knowing whether the action that Sterling just called is actually what happened or not just adds to the suspense.

Just in: Al Michaels has left 'Sunday Night Football,' but he's not leaving NBC. He's been given 'emeritus status' and 'will continue to broadcast and contribute across NBC Sports’ high-profile properties, including the NFL Playoffs and the Olympics.'
(I think this is the sort of thing that can happen when NBC Sports is literally producing Thursday Night Football for Amazon)

Howard Bryant has a new biography about Rickey. Here's an excerpt:

It’s May 30, 1994, the A’s made their first trip of the season to Toronto. The team bus left the Toronto Sheraton, rolled down Spadina Ave., and as it rumbled into the SkyDome passed a billboard on Blue Jays Way containing just three elements: a photo of an elated Joe Carter, the date of his epic home run and the time the ball landed in the seats to give Toronto the championship. No other words.
The billboard sparked a question that bounced around the A’s bus as it pulled into the ballpark: “Where were you when Joe Carter hit the home run?” From the front to the back, players, coaches and staff recalled their whereabouts at Canada’s most famous baseball moment. Dave Feldman, the statistician for KRON-TV, the A’s television affiliate, said he was sitting on the couch, watching the game in his San Francisco apartment, totally stunned. More voices followed, with more recollections.
Then a lone voice boomed from the very back of the bus. “I WAS ON SECOND BASE!”

Yeah, I've basically signed off from athlete bios over the years ... but this one might be an exception
Jeff Pearlman is releasing a Bo Jackson book in the fall that I'm also looking forward to.

BTW, Dave Parker's bio is better than it has any right to be. It's worth a read.

The entire Globe baseball staff has had it with Bloom. Sprite’s piece last week, Finn’s stuff from the last two weeks. Shaughnessy from the last year.

When you lose Pete Abe, Finn and Speier; you may want to start rethinking your plan.

I always liked Rachel; her father in law was Mike Nichols and her stepmother in law, Diane Sawyer.
