I just want to say "F*ck Jeter." (Am I allowed to say that on the main board?)
You are always allowed to say "Fuck Derek Jeter"

I will never get over the fact that one of his career's most "heroic" plays was him wandering into the on deck circle while he was supposed to be covering second and getting lucky the ball happened to roll to him and he suddenly was clutch like nobody had ever seen.

Gah, I guess I'm just salty because my name is Derek and I live in NY. For two decades I would introduce myself and get "like Derek Jeter." No, not like Derek fucking Jeter. Thank you.

Mayer is not due to arrive for maybe 4 years, so Bogaerts' prime window fits that to a T. So unless you can find a replacement of suitable quality at roughly the same age, I can't imagine why we would want to make a change. The defensive issues aren't great, but they don't strike me as anywhere near as disruptive as losing his bat/personality/history etc.
Four years? I know he's young but he's clearly going to be fast-tracked. Definitely not two years but if he is killing Single A next year, I could possibly see him in 3 years. I don't even see how 4 years would fit with Bogaert's window. If he's signing a contract it'll be for 8 years... I'm guessing you're saying "4 prime years" where he can still stick at SS before he moves to LF or 3B?

3 isn't off the table but boy that is awfully quick for a teenager. I wouldn't want to assume too much there, just as I wouldn't want to assume that Xander's prime starts to drop off before age 33. He's a pretty fit guy and doesn't rely on the kind of athleticism that drops off suddenly. I guess it's like a crossfader, where one pole is slowly coming on while the other fades out. Where exactly you see a change happening is hard to pin down. But soxprospects has Mayer's arrival in late 2024, so my 2025 guess isn't radically different. For what that's worth. If it's three years and Mayer is ready in spring 2024, it's basically the same choice. Which assumption you prefer doesn't really change the point of this discussion, which is that you probably don't want to see Bogaerts walk this winter if you expect to have a premium bat and acceptable glove at the position.
