.546 ops, 27 years old. Like many of our recent acquisitions, he was good in 2019. Arb eligible.

Just curious, why have we carried 2 minor league catchers on the 40-man all year if we aren’t going to play them?

Brookline
A replacement-level backup catcher who can’t hit and has an average arm. This doesn’t make much sense to me. I know Hernandez needs work defensively, but at least he’s got an arm and hit in AAA.

I love Reese if for no other reason that Cora can no longer make the dumb decision of bringing in Diekman

.5 WAR in 53 games is much better than replacement level. Tied for 2nd in all of baseball in catcher DRS

This guy may be bad at hitting a baseball & a public masturbator...but at least he's cheap ($722k with 3 more arb years) & they get off Diekman's contract?

Good lord what is the point of this? Is this really a better option than giving time to Wong or Hernandez some game time?

Seems like a guy we'll probably be able to slip through waivers in a couple days and send to Worcester while we see if Ronaldo's got.

Why?
I have no idea what Bloom is doing at this deadline. He traded a solid catcher and character guy for prospects. Then he goes out and gets the opposite of that. I hope there's a better long term plan that's yet to be revealed.

Right Here
I looked at COTS. Getting a one year contract, three more years arb eligible vs. giving up another year of Diekman.

This may just be addition by subtraction.

If the white flag is being raised, may as well save a few bucks. Maybe this is what gets them under the tax.
