Do you think this acquisition is all part of Bloom’s master plan, or is he just bait to get someone else?
McGuire's an average pitch framer overall, but he's an especially good pitch framer on high strikes in the upper third of the zone. He's 12th of 60 MLB catchers. (Vazquez is 7th of 60, both via Statcast)

It is kind of interesting. Pham's been involved in some pretty odd issues - the whole fantasy football slap thing. I'm getting the vibe he's not seen as likeable by most here. Perhaps there's also a holdover from his TB days.
McGuire got caught jerking off and fessed up. FWIW, I wouldn't call this a garden-variety misdemeanor, but prosecutors are normally not going to cut a M2 disorderly deal unless they're sure there's nothing nefarious surrounding the act.
I read the reaction here as more in the Bob Kraft zone. Otherwise though, I'd guess its kind of a non-factor. (Meaning I'm not sure fans turn on him.)
Fans are definitely going to give him an earful, at least at first. Low hanging fruit and a fanbase bored if not in contention. This isn't Philly, so he's not in danger, but Boston fans will certainly throw some barbs his way. Hopefully, he exceeds expectations and the ribbing will stop quickly.

I was thinking it would be good to see if they could coax Chien-Ming Wang, Randy Johnson, and Dick Pole out of retirement. They finally have a guy who can handle them.

Indeed, with McGuire's slick play, the catcher position has been much less fluid than I thought it would be.
