I'd love it if the club went back to the dual piping on the home shirt sleeves as handsomely worn here by Yaz:

I'd love to hear some opinions on this. For me, it's the best jersey we've ever had.

It is the blue shirt underneath that brings it together, but our corporate overlord, for all of his virtues, is trapped in his childhood fetish for the Cardinals graphic design.

Whites at home and grey away please. I don't like the blue and red jerseys especially with the different colored pants. They look like pajamas.

The home whites are pretty much perfect. The only improvement would be going back to the blue undershirt, as it accentuates Red SOX.
It’ll never happen, but I wish they’d go back to the mid 80s-style road grays. Blue no nonsense block lettering, no names on the back, the only red to be seen is the B on the cap and the socks/stirrups themselves. To me, this look was all business and about as intimidating as a baseball uniform gets.
The red and the blue jerseys can go die in a fire. Gimmick alt uniforms are for kooky expansion teams.

I agree about the red tops but, much to my surprise, I have come to like the navy tops. I do wish they would go back to the old socks though - the stripes are awesome.

I'm a fan of the navy shirts. The reds are gimmicky. I respect the road grays from a historical perspective, but the navy is nicer aesthetically.

It's crazy to me that the Sox have been wearing those red jerseys (or something very similar to them) since 2003, it feels like yesterday that they introduced them. And the blue ones have been around for ten years. And while the Sox clinched the Series wearing them, I'm still not a huge fan of them; I actually like the red ones better.

But to add to the chorus, I'd love to see the double piping on the sleeves come back. That's a solid look.

The navy ones are similar to their old spring training jerseys. I like both the navy and the red. It's nice to change it up a bit. Hell the Celtics wore black uniforms at home for game 1. Whatever.

Edit: old ST unis

Dude's well rested, but he'll be 80 in August. Hard pass.

FWIW, I like the current home and road unis. Even though the road grays have been updated a bit, they still have a classic look to them in that they partner well with the traditional home jerseys. Would also like to see them revert back to the navy blue undershirt and the socks shown above in post #7. If you need an alternate jersey, I favor the blue over the red one.

Home uniform is a stone-cold classic, in my opinion, and happy to not see it futzed with.

I liked the road uniforms from '09-'13, the blue text provided a nice contrast from the red type on the home uni. But the road ones they had before and after are also pretty good. Agree w/those who like the blue undershirts, as well.

Hate the red jerseys. Hate 'em.

Like the blue ones OK, but was pretty baffled they wore the blues during the WS, for every away game no less. Would have expected only the whites and greys in the postseason, but hey you can't argue with the results.

Finally, unpopular opinion: I liked the 2009 hat w/the hanging socks on the front and the red "dot" at the top of the cap. Bought one at spring training in 2010 after I left my standard cap at home, so I guess I have a soft spot for it.

I too miss the grey roads with the blue text and the number and nothing else. Grey/Red is ok - but there was just something great about the fact that there was no other adornment on them. No Sox on the sleeve, for example. I’m pretty sure this is just me being nostalgic considering those were the unis of my childhood.

The home whites are great. Don’t change them.

Burn the alternates. In a volcano.

Another vote for the ‘09-‘13 era road jerseys, which were inspired by the 80s era “plain” road greys. After Henry bought the team they really leaned into the red, maybe because navy was a Yankee color (?) and I feel like they lost the red/navy balance that has always makes the Sox identity so great. Somebody smart fought back with those early-teens road jerseys which were basically perfect. But it didn’t last. Navy softball tops are not the answer either. Old socks and plain away jerseys would be a fantastic development.

I love the home unis as they are, although I wouldn't mind switching to the red cap with blue bill (probably largely influenced by the fact that I came of age with them in the mid-70's) to stress the color red at home. For the road, I'd like the grays with BOSTON (in the Red Sox' font) in blue letters outlined subtly in red, along with the blue caps to go with a blue theme on the road. Not sure if the blue undershirt with the red-themed home whites and the red undershirt with the blue-themed road grays would look better than going all-in with the red-under-red and blue-under-blue. Will always love the old sox, though.

They wore the home reds a lot last playoffs too. I believe for both Yankees games and both ALCS games as well.

They wear the red and blue only in Fridays. Which is why it was weird they wore the blues every game in LA during the WS.
I hate the blue and red jerseys, especially in post season. But I seem to remember reading here that the game jerseys during the playoffs were starting pitcher’s choice. Why pitchers might prefer the colored shirts to traditional button-ups? I don’t know.

December 19, 1907:
Arthur McPherson writing in the Boston Journal, describes the Boston American League club's decision to wear red stockings the next season (which became the basis of the team being known as the Red Sox):

"Some antiquated fossils may continue to designate them as the Pilgrims, but none of the up-to-date fans will do that, for the order has gone forth that Boston American League team next year will wear red stockings while playing on the home grounds.

There will be nothing bashful about that red, either. It will be an aggressive, blazing color scheme that will be heard farther than the chortle of the fan when the home team wins out in the fifteenth inning...

The going-away costume will be of gray with red trimmings on coat and shirt, and blue stockings.
The at-home apparel will be white, with the exception of the passionate stockings.

It was first proposed that the red stockings be worn on the road, but the officers of the club decided that it would be better to try them on the home populace and among friends at first. If they do not interfere with the fans' vision of the game or do not incite the crowds to riot, they may be worn on the road another year."

A modest proposal:
Home games: whites with red jerseys on Friday
Away games: grays with blue jerseys on Friday
Patriots Day: yellow city connect uniforms
Next home game after Patriots Day: white BOSTON jerseys

Finally, can we bring these back for the gray road uniforms (with regular hats and mandatory sock showing)?

I just want the Pirates to use their 70's/early 80's uniforms and the White Sox to use their collared ones.
For the Red Sox my favorites will always be the mid-late 70's era.

A small rebuttal to your modest proposal:

Away games: grays with blue jerseys on Friday
Patriots Day: white BOSTON jerseys
Fired into the sun for all eternity: yellow City Connect unis.

If the City Connect unis have to be kept, then the Sunday before Patriots Day is fine (as they did this year).

Because of what I associate them with, I've come to be fine with the red undershirts(though the navy were better looking). And Fridays for the red jerseys at home, blue jerseys on the road is fine. But, the home whites and road grays need to be the go to the rest of the time. And yes, amen @Red(s)HawksFan, burn the city connect abomination and salt the earth.

Nothing with waistbands (versus belts) looks very good these days- the players don't want to wear them tight like they did in the 70s; therefore they look kind of sloppy.

Wouldn't mind the Pirates wearing the pillbox hats.

Yuck. I'm fine with newer teams trotting out all sorts of jerseys. But the Sox should really stick with the home whites and the away greys.

Let Nike make as many jerseys as they want. But stick with what works on the field.

Just went back and read my post from 2019, and I stand by what I said. The fact that they wear the home whites so rarely is just absurd to me. The red jerseys should be burned. Someone clearly likes them, though... I'm fine if they are a Friday night thing or whatever, but the fact that they've become the default is awful.

Does the team have control over what jersey they wear on a given night? Ever since Nike took over the NBA contract, they have full control over what jerseys are worn for each game.

I believe it's still the choice of the starting pitcher. Nike doesn't dictate what is worn on any given night, though there is a minimum number of games in which the City Connect uniforms need to be worn.

The red and blue alternates are just so mediocre and bland next to the home whites and road greys.

The lack of piping along the collar and up the front kills them. They could use piping on the sleeves too.

They never should have gotten rid of the red hats from the 75 era. They really pop with the white and the gray unis.

How come the Yankees don't have a City Connect uniform? They should be forced to wear some lame shit just like every other franchise.
