This is unfortunate. Really hoping this doesn't make the rivalry tired or less impactful by January. Another crummy side effect is this waters-down 177 a lot. I love the UFC, but right now, their product is too diluted. They have too many fights that make it hard to get excited for right now. (disclaimer: I'm still ponying up for pretty much every PPV, but it's the more casual fans I'm worried about).

I hope their growth model of trying to monetize through the Fight Pass subscriptions and getting to more remote areas of the country doesn't hurt the long-term landscape of the sport.

I think the UFC growth model didn't foresee headliners getting injured on a monthly basis. I only watch about half of the PPVs, maybe less.

It also sucks for Cormier because he put off knee surgery to fight Jones, and now has to put it off again.

War Machine Prison bound.

War Machine was found at an Extended Stay America Hotel, according to the Simi Valley Police Department (h/t KTLA). TMZ reported he did not put up a fight. Inside the room, there was a small amount of cash and pizza, a release said. War Machine is originally from Simi Valley.
He was captured by Nevada FIST, a permanent task force led by U.S. Marshals with help of law enforcement officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the Nevada Department of Public Safety, the Nevada Department of Corrections and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Eddie Alvarez was granted release from Bellator . . . and will fight Cerrone as the co-main for UFC 178. That should be a good one, and the winner should be closing in on a title shot, at least an interim title shot if Pettis is out fairly long

The Irishman was winning the fight but that looked liked the knockout punch was to the back of the head. The first one was fine and stunned the guy but the next few looked illegal and the last one clean. I was/am drunk so I may be wrong. Rogan watching the replay was interesting as he got quiet all of a sudden after calling it legitimate early on.

I don't think Demetrius Johnson is the best fighter in UFC, but him and Aldo are the most dominant in their respective divisions right now. Johnson's never really been challenged since that one knockdown against Dodson. It'd be nice to see those two fight again.

How much would you spend on a ppv for a one night only Ufc kumate? No weight classes and the occasional powder to the eyes. Me, $215, without seeing a preview. After a promo with fight footage and trash talk, all my money+ ($9.99).

Cain Velasquez is out of UFC 180 agains Werdum on Nov. 15. He's replaced by Mark Hunt, who is apparently 302 lbs right now and has to cut 37 lbs in 24 days to make the 265 lb limit. Hunt v Werdum will be for an interim title.

Hunt was supposedly heavier 2 weeks before the Nelson fight in Japan, so I think he'll make the weight.  My worry is that fighting at altitude in Mexico City, he's going to gas by the end of the first round.

Phil Davis just dissected and broke down Glover. Total domination for three rounds, unreal wrestling.

If Mendes loses a point for accidental eye pokes, and loses by a point, then that late combo by Aldo will just be the icing on the bullshit cake.

Frankie Edgar just absolutely dominated Cub Swanson tonight.  I didn't think there was a chance in hell that was going to happen.  The first round was close, but Edgar just owned him for the rest of the fight.  Edgar is just relentless.  Now the question is can he beat Aldo.

Aldo typically hasn't looked as great in the championship rounds. If Frankie can hang for rounds 1-3, he has a reasonable shot.

Two title fights tonight, a rarity on UFC cards.

Pettit-Gilbert and Hendricks-Lawler2, should both be high tempo fights. Hendricks-Lawler 1 was one of the best fights I've ever seen.

Yup, surely great night of fights. Good preliminary card too. There's a women's fight which I always like, a TUF9 matchup, and Faber to close it out.

How does the champ take a guy down 5 times and out punch him significantly and lose? Rogan can't even tell you which rounds Lawler won besides 5. What crap.

The strike difference is pretty, well, striking. But I don't think the takedowns meant much because he didn't try any subs or do any ground-and-pound. He just took him down and sat on him. There's no way Lawler won 4 rounds though.

Hell of a fight between Dos Santos and Miocic.  This could go either way.  I thought it was 48-47 Junior, but that last round was close.

Wow that sucks. Dillashaw - Cruz would have been a great fight. Demetrious Johnson - Dillashaw would be a fun superfight. Dillashaw has said he can make 125.
