He just cannot find range. Jones fighting smartly here.
And, it looks like Jones has a broken right hand. Can't throw it, can't lock in a submission.

Okay, this is fucking absurd. Jones is just mocking him, I can't believe the striking domination.

Four shut-out rounds wasn't enough, TJ just blasted him in the 5th. What a performance.

Brazil now has just Aldo as its own champ.

TJ with one of the best performances I've ever seen -- and completely out of the blue. Did you see Faber crying after the win?

10-1 underdog man. Wow.

Daniel Cormier threw Hendo around like he was nothing. DC also looked about 225, and Hendo weighed in at 199. But man, DC looked good.

Has Hendo hit the wall at 43 or is Cormier that good? That was utter domination. I want to see Cormier fight Jones. I didn't think anyone less than 6'3" would have a chance against Jones, but I am starting to thing that Cormier's power and speed might actually counter Jones well.  I don't know if there is any counter to an 83" wingspan and Jones' skill, but Cormier can wrestle with Jones and is so powerful, he might have a chance.

looking at the stats on TJ/Barao, Barao attempted zero takedowns. I think he didn't have a plan B, and his corner didn't tell him to try a takedown, they only told him to try to avoid getting hit. If someone is consistently landing punches, you should mix it up with takedown attempts. Since Barao didn't, TJ knew he could keep doing what he was doing. (I also think Herb Dean gifted Barao the win over Faber.)

Compare that to when kick fiend Aldo broke his foot and switched it up, using takedowns to take over the match

Gunfighter, I think Cormier/Hendo shows that Hendo is a middleweight at this point in his career. I hadn't thought about it, but he probably has a quicker title shot at 185, since it's a thinner division than 205 (no pun intended).

Cormier said he'll wait for Jones/Gustafsson 2 winner in August 30, so he'd have to wait until Dec/Jan/Feb. Maybe the Super Bowl Saturday card. Cormier also had a hell of a time making weight, and a long layoff may make that harder. He ran through a lot of heavyweights so he's good and he's a powerhouse at 205, more than anyone else probably.

He said in an interview that he got rocked in the first round and went into automatic-pilot mode for the rest of the fight. There were times where he had no idea of where he was.

Lot of good here...

I think Faber was robbed a bit, but not egregiously. It is not a surprise to me that a TAM guy beat him.

If there is any more of Hendo's career, you are right, it is probably at 185. I love the dude and would prefer he hung it up.

I wonder if the answer to Jones' length is a guy who is really 220 walking in the ring like Cormier. I want to see that fight.

Rory McDonald looked good last night, but a lot of that had to do with Woodley looking terrible. He has no gas, and probably had a hell of a weigh cut. You never know what you will get with Woodley, sometimes he's a monster, other times he's timid as hell and has no gas in the tank. Rory mixed it up well, but against a real mauler like Hendricks or Lawler he'll probably get beaten.

Demetrius Johnson is probably the most dominant fighter in UFC, but his division isn't very strong. I really thought Bagautinov had a chance, he'd look great in his last three fights, but Johnson's basically obliterated everyone they've put in front of him. Sounds like he'll get Dodson again. Dodson at least has a puncher's chance of winning that one.

Yikes, Uriah Hall's toe is vertical. His foot is broken, most likely. Fighting 3 rounds with it now.

middleweight is a great division?

a guy who beat anderson twice because of luck and then beat machida because machida's stupid karate counter punch horseshit means he has no idea how to press when a guys hurt is the champ

the next ranked dudes are anderson, who should probably just retire, the guy he just beat, and fuckin vitor belfort which who the fuck knows whats going on with him at this point

middleweight is the worst division in the UFC right now and weidman is gonna have the belt forever because theres NOTHING for challengers. ugh.

Even without mentioning fighting style it's hard to beat a guy when you give him the first three rounds and get outweighed by about 15 pounds. I wish Machida would cut a normal amount of weight.

How much shittier is Belfort going to be without TRT? Probably a lot? I'd like to see Kennedy get Weidman.

And Jones-Teixeira shouldn't have happened. Teixeira never had a chance and now we have to wait til September for Gustafsson. Fuck.

Middleweight has not had much depth for some time. I mean, Anderson had to fight at light heavyweight a few times. Other middleweight contenders included guys like Demian Maia, Thales Leites, etc. Not exactly dominant competition.

I think the light heavyweight and welterweight divisions are the deepest ones (and this has been the case for some time). Women's bantamweight and flyweight depth are probably worse than middleweight in the UFC currently.

Lots of news today

Chael Sonnen was suspended for 2 years, of forever depending on how you look at i t.

Vitor Belfort was granted a license to compete in Nevada and will now face Chris Weidman at UFC 181.

Alexander Gustafsson got injured, and Daniel Cormier will replace him vs Jon Jones at UFC 178.

Fight Night on Saturday is going to nuts, but that's not news.

Cormier fought his last fight with a torn LCL and partially torn ACL, was going to have surgery this month but instead will train to fight Jones. He'll probably have surgery after the fight, and be on the shelf for a while. If he wins, it'll be a long time until he defends.

Of course he's not going to turn down the fight, but it's weird that UFC offered it to him considering his condition. He could have gotten the fight next year. I guess there isn't anyone else available. Anthony Johnson?

Is there an epidemic with guys getting hurt in training?

So, does Weidman's leg hurt from that kick?

This is a sport where the main objective involves kicking people as hard as you can. That leg ain't doing that anymore. The man is 38 years old. Unless Kobe's German medical team has some tricks up its sleeve, I don't think he will fight again.

Name your charity and amount.  He's been considering retiring for a while and has had to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat a few times lately.  I can't imagine he'll be back in the UFC.

Some of the better punchers in the UFC - I know, damning with faint praise - but I hope they stay on their feet most of the fight.

Its going to be a fun fight. Both Diaz and Silva prefer to stay standing even though both are great on the ground. Nick said in a conference call today that hes walking around at 195 lbs.

Joe Riggs apparently shot himself in the hand and leg while cleaning his gun  . His UFC return will have to wait.

I'm sure i'd shoot myself in some part of myself if I had a gun, but JESUS CHRIST how do you not take any and all bullets out of your damn gun before you 'clean it'???

Or is 'cleaning your gun' some kind of catch-all for 'being an idiot' like 'flu-like symptoms'.

It's pretty hard to shoot yourself if your even little responsible. My gun is unloaded over 99% of the time I'm sure. I guess if you have a lot of guns and shoot/hunt so regularly that you're cleaning dozens of guns at the same time, it could happen, but that's a rare situation. He was most likely being an idiot.
