Moyes is the guy to do what Dyche should have done. That is, shepherd the team into the new stadium anchored by a stout defense, but not ignoring the need to plan for successful counterattacks. Baines and Coleman looking to get forward were crucial back in the day, allowing interplay with forwards who actually would have a teammate in the same zip code when they managed to get the ball in the final third. This Everton squad has personnel similar to the squads from a decade ago, but I'd like to see Moyes give more of the younger players such as Patterson more playing time with license to push forward at opportune moments. Certainly, the injuries to Garner and Tim I. (won't try to spell) hampered Dyche's ability to implement a more attacking style, but I'm not sure he was going to choose these guys over Young and the other older guys.
I think this is a good take and it’s more or less where I come down. Moses is not so rigidly anti-attacking football as Dyche. He’s not a thrilling choice but he will do better with this group than Dyche has.

The fans seem to agree:

Moses cannot lead Everton to the promised land of safety from relegation, only to within sight of it.

Burnley sacked Dyche because they lost hope in his ability to avoid relegation, but ended up relegated. I fear the same for Everton
Dyche has lost the dressing room. He isn't just parking the bus anymore. It's anti-football. They brought in several attacking players over the summer but he refuses to play any kind of attacking ball whatsoever. We don't even counterattack. It's just hoof it and pray.

Paddy Boyland of The Athletic is pretty well connected in the squad, what he reports is usually accurate.

some fans on the boards are pointing out that this group of players has downed tools for 9 managers in 9 years (ouch).

Most are glad to see him gone.

Lots of anxiety over Moyes as the next pick. Some yearning for someone else. Pro-Moyes is not the sexy take but there are a decent number saying that Moyes is The Napkin, and he'll do.

So it's Moyes.

Here's a randomly chosen swatch of the 100000's of posts out there rn. You'll see all of the viewpoints one would expect. I'm at about a 6/10 on this appointment which is to say I'm ok with it. Valid points in both the pro- and anti- camps I think.

I initially had a pretty negative reaction to it, but thinking about the squad we have, it's not like we can play attacking football. Moyes knows how to set a team up to be effective on the counter, obviously knows and has very warm feelings towards the club, and has been very successful operating on a shoestring budget before. Plus, we all know he can get the best out of Seamus Coleman.

Given that Dyche had to go, I think the appointment makes sense. Ideally, he can maintain the defensive solidity while providing more of a plan in attack. It's not exciting, but hopefully it at least provides stability for the next ~2 years as we settle into the new stadium.

About where I’m at.

if nothing else, he’s enthusiastic and wants to be at the club. Dyche had become so negative. It couldn’t be tolerated anymore. I have no illusions but also find it hard to believe that Dyche was getting all he could out of this group.
