Ranieri coming out of retirement to see out Roma's season. He's their 4th manager of the season, but Roma are only 11 points out of a European place. Maybe there's one more magic trick left...

He’s their third manager. That said, I don’t understand why they fired DeRossi if they didn’t have a good back up plan. He wasn’t that bad.

I have been forgetting to look here to see if you guys were talking about Roma. What a crazy year.

The 718
scuttlebutt is that Dyche's seat is getting warm-ish.

Everton picked up 6/15 from a run of

ips FUL sou whu BRE

not nearly good enough, especially with losing to Southampton and allowing 10-man Brentford their first away point of the season. No goals in three games and not much sign of one either.

Upcoming schedule is brutal: this is through the end of 2024:

mun WOL LIV ars CHE mci NFO

Dyche just got the public vote of confidence from the incoming owners which, given their record of sacking managers serially at Roma... unless he can significantly improve form (which, to be fair, he sometimes does) I expect him to be gone by the Chelsea game at the latest.

He has been breaking down game tape on PL Productions
He may be a decent X’s and O’s guy- it would be hard to excel as GOAT central mid without a great tactical mind. So if he gives good analysis that doesn’t surprise me.

Where he failed imo at Everton was an almost frightening misapprehension of what the moment called for - trying to play end to end football at Spurs with a decimated squad and getting shredded by Son on the counter, but then starting 5 at the back and playing for a 0-0 draw to Burnley when we desperately needed 3 points in the relegation fight. He seemed to choose lineups and game plans by dart board.

he will coach up some individual players and will inspire some good performances but the week in week out of consistent planning, not for him.

Or that Chelsea under Abramovich are still being investigated for FFP violations? Or that the FFP rules even exist in their current state because of teams like Roman’s Chelsea?

I also would never call the Special One a graceful loser. I think Anthony Taylor would agree with me.

Regardless, the world is better with a quote from Mourinho even if I completely disagree with it.

California. Duh.
The one bit of credit I'll always give Mourinho was after Liverpool upset them in the 2005 Champions League semi he walked around and congratulated every Liverpool player and applauded the fans at Anfield as he walked to the tunnel. He's always spoken about how great the atmosphere is at Anfield is, as well. So yeah, he's a blowhard, but one who can show occasional signs of class.

Just breaking:
Wolves have sacked manager Gary O'Neil in the wake of Saturday's 2-1 defeat by Ipswich Town.
Multiple sources have told BBC Sport of his departure, which has not yet been confirmed publicly by the club.
His sacking comes just three days after Wolves chairman Jeff Shi said the club was "united" behind O'Neil following Monday's 2-1 defeat at West Ham.
Obvious caveat that this hasn't been confirmed by Wolves, but BBC tend not to run such stories unless they're sure it's legit.

He had an all-time "I'm getting sacked in the morning" quote at the presser after the game, the statement of a man with zero fucks left to give:

“The set-play goal, I would happily take responsibility for it if the players were stood in the right place,” he said. “For some reason two of them have decided to change roles very late on in the game. I’m 100% confident if they were in the right spot our player heads it away."

I wonder how Ruben Amorim is feeling today. I wonder if he'll have any lingering regrets over decisions made in 2024. I can think of two in particular.

Maybe or maybe he can show the board a lot of deadweight needs to be moved and speed up the rebuild process. He had to have known it would be a big challenge. Starting a spine of Onana, McGuire, Eriksen, and Casmerio is saying “we’ve gotta move on from these guys.”

And Martinez looks lost playing three in the back. I saw de Ligt make a weak effort at a tackle then jog back to support his teammates.

Did he actually turn Liverpool down? I never really understood what happened there.
Recapping the Athletic article that came out after they hired Slot - LFC really liked Amorim, did a full work up on him and found him equal to Slot, but the difference was Slot could run his system with the squad in place where Amorim would need a significant overhaul. Not sure how much of that is LFC spin, but it seems about right.

Deschamps announces he’s departing after the World Cup. Probably not the news many French fans wanted.

Potter and WH a done deal: https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/c87xvw87e0go

Dyche is on the hot seat. New Everton ownership had spoken to Potter. Supposedly there is a preferred candidate to take over for Dyche but he's currently at another club.

Toffees host Peterborough, 19th in League One, in the FA Cup this Saturday. A limp, toothless win over subpar opposition, which is the most likely outcome, will keep Dyche in his job, probably.

The tie has the attraction of Ashley Young playing against his son, Tyler, an 18 year old midfielder for Peterborough.

WHU seems like a good spot for Potter. Time to find out if the magic is in him or at Brighton. Perhaps both.

Moyes is the odds on favourite to be next Everton boss: Odds range from around 1/3 to 1/5, by comparison Jose is 5/1 to 7/1 so huge difference in the prices.

https://www.oddschecker.com/football/football-specials/everton/next-permanent-manager

Just listening to Talk Sport and respected journalist and commentator Adrian Durham saying that the Everton players group expressed concern about Jose being next manager as given their situation in the league, they need a manager who is for the players. One thing mentioned about Dyche is that he was always positive (in interviews and pressers) about the players and they respected and appreciated that. We all know Jose brings a lot of baggage, has no qualms about digging out his players in public. That's not what this group of players need or want - i doubt if he joins Everton.

I don't quite understand the Jose rumors. The Friedkins brought him in at Roma, spent way over budget to bring in the vets he wanted (and were connected to Mendes) and then couldn't qualify for the UCL to balance the books. So they dumped Jose mid-season, everyone seemingly pretty burned by the experience. Hard to imagine the Friedkins buying another ticket for that show.

Seeing lots of Moyes talk. Many Blues are distraught. I’m ok with it. I’d like to see who else is out there but I won’t kill mtself if they pick DM.

Moyes is definitely the funniest option, but I don't think he's the worst option by any means.

Mourinho would be both funnier and worse.

Moyes is eh. Firing a dour defensive manager to hire another dour defensive manager seems like a strange switch when the dressing room vibes weren't terrible.

Moyes is the guy to do what Dyche should have done. That is, shepherd the team into the new stadium anchored by a stout defense, but not ignoring the need to plan for successful counterattacks. Baines and Coleman looking to get forward were crucial back in the day, allowing interplay with forwards who actually would have a teammate in the same zip code when they managed to get the ball in the final third. This Everton squad has personnel similar to the squads from a decade ago, but I'd like to see Moyes give more of the younger players such as Patterson more playing time with license to push forward at opportune moments. Certainly, the injuries to Garner and Tim I. (won't try to spell) hampered Dyche's ability to implement a more attacking style, but I'm not sure he was going to choose these guys over Young and the other older guys.
