I was disappointed with the last episode because I (looks at shoes) really love the song "Closing Time". Also went to school with Dan Wilson and later on worked with plenty of people that worked with him in his current super-producer role, and he is unanimously characterized as a kind, generous, and friendly guy.
The Rob segment talked much less about "Closing Time" the song than the norm for a "60 Songs" episode, and barely talked about Dan or the members of the band or their origin story and where-are-they-now of it all at all. That was a bummer, but I get it -- the finale was Rob's valedictory and all the references to hearing "goodbye" in songs was undeniably amusing. [No mention of Third Eye Blind's "Semi-Charmed Kind of Life" in the canon of songs with "Goodbye" seemed like a miss to me though...]
But what really bummed me was the interview segment. Sure, Yasi is smart and funny and knowledgable. But the two of them actually dumped on the song and being generic and unremarkable and built on a metaphor they brushed off as "whatever". Again, didn't mention the individual bandmembers or songwriters at all. Yasi was outright dismissive of "Closing Time", and Rob gave in to it without much of a struggle. Made me feel like the uncool kid hanging out with people who'd really rather be vibing on Morphine or whatever.
