I should have added "worst case scenario he can only play 4 more seasons there". I hope he can stick there for more than that.
Just he's always been dinged by his defense so I could envision it becoming problematic enough that he gets moved in 4 more.
Got it. Obviously if his D were to deteriorate to unacceptable levels, they could move him. But until I see this franchise employ above-average players at 1B, OF and DH, I'm quite fine with Devers manning 3B for the foreseeable future.

Devers is THE GUY they need to keep. I know there's ultimately a limit on finances, but this guy - 25 year old all star and one of the elite hitters in the sport, just about to enter his prime, and is extremely popular with the fan base - is the guy you back the truck up for, 100%.

I really think (hope!) that Bloom and Henry et al. understand and agree with this.

I suspect that Devers may want to see what he is worth in FA. There may be no deal to be had this offseason. If he is not extended, it should not necessarily be read as the Red Sox being cheap.

Is there reason to think that Devers can't play 3B past the age of 30? I mean that literally. Is there evidence that he'll need to be moved in 4-5 years?
The only one I can think of is he is 6'0 and 240 right now. At age 30 he'll be heavier. That's a lot of bulk on his lower body
