A.J. diary: New guy Pierzynski unloads

One of the new faces on the Red Sox is catcher A.J. Pierzynski, who will be keeping a diary for ESPNBoston.com this season. In his first entry, A.J. reveals what advice his spring training roommate, Doug Mientkiewicz, gave him, how he feels about being labeled "the most hated man in baseball," why he isn't a fan of the new home-plate collision rules and what he is hoping to cross off his checklist at Fenway Park this season. (As told to Louise K. Cornetta)

"Unloads" is probably a bit strong. It's kind of bland and very sporadic in what it covers. When I saw how long it was I was hoping for some sort of long-form reflective piece that drew lots of different elements together, but really it's more of a hodgepodge of disparate thoughts. There a few interesting tidbits--he offers his opinion on the new home plate collision rules (he doesn't like them) and mentions Fenway is the last AL park he has not hit a home run in. Could be interesting as the season progresses, but we'll have to see.

And really, what could go wrong?

he could try imitating this old timey Sox Catcher, that's what could go wrong:

Yes, I know it's not really a catcher.  But it looks like a catchers

Lose, I don't think AJ is even remotely close to this fucked up in the head, but I thought more of another Boston (although for the Beaneaters) catcher. And he's basically exactly what the worst case scenario is. Spoiled because this is gruesome as all heck, and makes your stomach rather uneasy.

Marty Bergen, basically Boston's Aaron Hernandez of the very early 20th century. From wiki:

January 1900, at his home in North Brookfield, Massachusetts, the 28-year-old Bergen ended his life in murder-suicide. Bergen killed his wife and two children with an axe, then used a straight razor to cut his own throat with such force that he nearly beheaded himself. Bergen's father discovered the bodies. According to an article from The New York Times reporting on the tragedy:
The little boy (Bergen's 3-year-old son) was lying on the floor with a large wound in the head. Mrs. Bergen's skull was terribly crushed, having evidently been struck more than one blow by the infuriated husband. The appearance of the little girl (his 6-year-old daughter found on the kitchen floor next to Bergen) also showed that a number of savage blows had been rained upon the top and side of her head. Bergen's throat had been cut with a razor, and the head was nearly severed.

Genuinely excited for the blog, to see how he hopefully makes the MFY rivalry relevant this year, pisses off a few of their fans, and maybe his take on the Ellsbury situation is a good read, given his past. Also, while I'd have liked a Millar/Gomes type more for this, I'm glad to see a dropout of Crash Davis' classes get this. Can you how boring it'd be if a Jeter-type got this? Wondering if the poll (USA Today, June 2012) hold true, of him as most disliked player, according to 100 MLB players. I mean, I know it'd be Slappy now, but then it was 34% for him, to lead the pack (2nd and 3rd were ARod, Swisher, at 10% and 9%).

Everyone says what a douche he is.

His "diary entry" does not make him sound like a douche, at all. He actually sounds like someone I can get behind, maybe literally.
