I received the A&E set on Blu-Ray.  I am very disappointed with the set.  One is required to sit through about 5 minutes of commercials before watching a single pitch.

The set only comes with the 7 world series games and game 7 of the ALCS.

For previous comments, I'm sure he meant to say Game 6.  I had read somewhere that you get that on a Bonus DVD, but no other ALCS\ALDS games.

The 5 minutes of commercials is new info for me though (admittedly I haven't done a lot of reading on this subject).  So, you mean to tell me that for each Disc I am forced to watch 5 minutes of commercials that I can't skip or Fast forward through?  Do I have that right?  If that's the case, that's absolutely ridiculous.

Yes, guys- I meant game 6 of ALCS.  Apologies.

Correct.  You cannot fast-forward through the FBI copyright warning, or any of the fatuous advertisements for other DVDs, etc.

"This function is disabled at this time" is what you get.

I feel that if I purchased a Blu-Ray disc (for quite a lot of money) I shouldn't have to watch an ad each f***ing time I put it into the Blu-Ray player.

There is a bonus Blu-Ray as well, but it has very little content on it. Certainly not a disc's worth. It includes the walk off wins for 2013 and a few other things.

Ugh. I ordered the Blu-ray via Amazon on Dec. 9, and it hasn't arrived. The Amazon website reports the DVD is in stock but the Blu-ray remains out of stock.

Grrr -- your post made me look and I accidentally got the DVD instead of the blu-ray.  Well, at least I have it.

This thread was a lot more fun when it was people posting awesome pics and videos.

Shouldn't DVD discussion be something/somewhere different?

A brief sidebar from the 2013 multimedia discussion...

While in the midst of my annual overdosing on A Christmas Story during its 24-hour run on TBS, including scouring the net for info on the various actors and filming locations, I stumbled upon this video from October 14, 1969 (sorry, can't embed it).

It's a clip of a 48-year-old, heavily pork-chopped Jean Shepherd, the film's narrator (and author of the book it was largely based on) at Fenway Park. Classic footage and insightful commentary* from a Chicago-born baseball fan, and memories of his hometown White Sox playing in the stadium the Red Sox still call home 44 years later. (And yes, the left field wall was often referred to as the "Green Giant" back then.)

I could listen to the late Jean Shepherd read a phone book, and this is a great way for baseball fans to spend 10 minutes of their day.

Happy Holidays, everyone.

There are three promotion videos on each disk after the FBI warning and the Lionsgate theme and before the MLB Productions intro.  You can skip through each of the three promo videos on the blu-ray set, but you can't skip the FBI warning, the Lionsgate theme or the MLB Productions intro (a total of about 30 seconds).

Do any of the 2013 Red Sox post season DVD sets have the Ortiz grand slam from game 2 of the ALCS?

The bonus disc that comes with the complete blu-ray set includes highlights of each of the post-season victories, including the Ortiz grand slam.

That was awesome dog. I had no idea who Jean Sheppard was before seeing this but, while watching, it brought back memories of listening to games on the radio in my basement as a kid. The vivid pictures those announcers painted were, and still are, something to behold. Much of that art is lost today. Thanks for posting.

That was excellent! Shepherd was a terrific writer, and I love A Christmas Story. Actually doesn't Ralphie's Old Man mention Bullfrog being traded during one of the kitchen table scenes?

Just to be clear, because by the end of the holidays I want every 2013 Red Sox DVD known to man ...

We all currently have these choices:

1. The A&E collection of games: http://shop.mlb.com/product/index.jsp?productId=28732986
2. The championship film (hosted by Ben Affleck): http://shop.mlb.com/product/index.jsp?productId=28732906
3. The NESN Band of Bearded Brothers: http://mshop.mlb.com/product/index.jsp?productId=30544286

And that would be it?

From comments it looks like A&E didn't include any of the ALCS/ALDS games except for Game 6 of ALCS on some Bonus DVD.  Anyone know of a way to get all games?
I am also wondering this. So I do not buy something twice, The Film by Ben Affleck is not included on this right?
http://www.amazon.com/World-Series-Collectors-Edition-Blu-ray/dp/B00EYMNVFQ/ref=pd_cp_mov_0
Since it looks like the film and the Collectors Edition are both by A&E

The Ben Affleck film isn't included with the World Series blu-ray set. The boxed set includes each World Series game (with your choice of Fox, Boston radio or St. Louis radio audio), ALCS game 6 (with comparable audio choices) and a bonus disc with highlights of every other post-season game and a bunch of regular season games (walk off wins and player milestones).

Am I missing where we are discussing the awesomeness that is Band of Bearded Brothers?  Also would highly recommend getting it on Blu Ray, one of the best looking Blu Rays I have seen.  The Cinematography is really, really impressive.

Thanks for the BJs tip.  Went in tonight and grabbed the blu-ray of Bearded Brothers.  They had a good dozen or so copies, too.  Maybe Amazon should be shopping there?

Picked up my BOBB Blu Ray at Newbury Comics in Burlington on Xmas Eve.  They had a few copies left at the time  The randomness of stores selected to distribute this is really baffling.   The quality of the DVD is in polar opposite of the effort put into marketing/distributing the DVD.  Real shame that every Sox fan that wants a copy can't easily get one.

I ordered Band of Bearded Brothers [non blu-ray] from Amazon at the beginning of December. They sent me a notice that they did not have a ship date. Then I got a notice telling me the ship date, then got another e-mail notice a day later that they cancelled my order due to "unavailability"! Reconciled myself to the thought that it would be awhile before I would find one somewhere [I live in NY], when someone in this thread a few days ago said some were available again on Amazon.

So I checked and they had about 4 available. Ordered it right away and it took only 3 days for me to get it. Go figure. The DVD is awesome! Way better than MLB's. A lot of focus on the players and what happened during the season. They even have the footage of Koji high fiving everyone and slapping Victorino. :)

I ordered the BOBB Blu-Ray from Barnes and Noble's website.  Cheaper than Amazon, and supposedly it should ship quickly.  It was just a couple of days ago though, so I'm not 100% on that.

They traded Bullfrog. I don't believe it.

What's that?

Well, for Christ's sake, the Sox traded Bullfrog...

the only player they've got, for Shottenhoffer.

"Four Eyes" Shottenhoffer, a utility infielder.

Got a whole goddamned team of utility infielders.

That's nice.

Edit: Also Bullfrog held out after being 7-13, not 3-17 and i assume it was to avoid a paycut since he made 4000 the next year too. Roughly 70 grand in today's money.

I just saw the NESN video at Costco for 11 or 12 bucks. They didn't have the blu-ray, but my player does a pretty decent job of upconverting, so I grabbed it. Watched it as soon as I got home and was quite satisfied with the video quality.

The NESN version is more of a review of the entire season.  The World Series film sort of rushed through the regular season, and both versions give pretty short shrift to the ALDS (IIRC, Myers's muffed play isn't even shown).

We finally have an "estimated" ship date for BOBB Blu-Ray from Amazon -- January 20th! Ground Hog Day gift instead of Christmas.

Do people not go into physical stores anymore? Im amazed at the online issues people are having. On the 26th (Dec), I went into Fye (mall) to upgrade the MLB Championship DVD to Blu-Ray (Christmas gift) and picked up the BOBB Blu-Ray for 14.99 while I was in there. I dont think online was much cheaper, if at all, and I got it instantly.

I believe the people who are having an issue finding BOBB are outside NE. I'm in FL and forced to order online.

Can someone explain to me if I can purchase prints of these? It seems like there's no personal use option in the pricing guide and there's no representative available to chat with. I'm trying to get a copy of Taco, X, and Ortiz signaling safe at the plate. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I wish I could find the actual file of this without the writing on it.
I like the higher angle.
/edit: I do have this file saved.
This could make a nice little photo. The backs on top and the safe call on the bottom.

I like this one as well.

I just got BBofB at Stop&Shop and have watched it. It is a wonderful review of the entire season. And of course, it's a tear-jerker, with the injured from the Marathon bombing at Fenway. I'm amazed to see such a great job from NESN, whom I tend to dislike during the broadcasts. Credit where credit's due.

p.s. One of the best things about this DVD is its almost total FOXlessness. There is one sentence from McCarver, noting that if the Red Sox come back from the weird WS game 3 loss, it will say a lot about their team. Otherwise, it's mostly O'Brien, Orsillo, Remy, Eck, and Castig. And the narration's by Cabin Mirror.

Given the high amount of common footage between BoBB and the WS film (not just the same events but the exact same cuts of the exact same footage), I wonder if the editing was done by MLB and not NESN.

Twenty years from now we're going to look at that picture and remark how amazing it is that Xander Bogaerts (who will be winding down a HOF career) once played with David Ortiz in the World Series.
