Except Ebner (possible broken arm) and Gronk (?), everyone was present this week.

Edelman will wear a steel-bottomed shoe to prevent further damage to his foot. By all means Hightower & Collins should be fully ready to go.

At this point the biggest question mark is Vollmer.

I think the biggest question mark is whether Gronk is at practice today. I suspect (OK, hope), he will be. But that is issue number one for me.

As to pure health issues, I would put Edelman (hasn't played at game speed yet) and Vollmer at around the same level.

Plenty other guys seem to be fairly banged up even if they've been playing: Amendola, Chung, McCourty, Chandler, Freeny, Kline, Waddle, Nink.

Obviously every team is banged up by the playoffs, so that's not really a surprise, but I hope these guys have a few high-quality games left in them.

This team hasn't had a bye since week 4. Not only have they lost key guys to injury, but they've had to play the rest of the roster more without any rest. I think the Patriots were a worn-down team, aside from the very specific injuries that plagued key players.

I think this bye week is going to help the Patriots more than any other team. I think KC is a very tough opponent, but I'm fully expecting to see a re-energized Patriots team on Saturday. I think they'll look very, very different than the team we saw limp to the finish line during the regular season.

Wouldn't the most likely answer be they are looking at someone for a scout team based on potential upcoming opponents? They're certainly not sniffing around FA WRs to play this weekend, you'd have to be way past the sniffing point by now.

Edit: I seem to recall (but can't verify) that they've used practice squad WRs as scout team QBs when a team like Seattle or Carolina is on the schedule, to better simulate the speed of the QB they're about to face.

Edit #2: Here's an example: Edelman simulates Tebow

Well, he didn't necessarily mean that the guys brought in this year would emulate QBs, just that they've used practice squad guys to simulate upcoming opponents in the past.

Whispers of sniffing. Doesn't get more definitive than that!

Could be anything. May just be scouting some guys for future contracts.

Given that they just signed WR JJ Worton to the practice squad (releasing another WR to do so), why is that "interesting"?
What are the odds that Edelman, Amendola, and LaFell play both this week and next week? 40%? Not surprised to hear Pats still beating the bushes for deep depth WRs.

I'm not surprised either. But given that Martin and Harper are still on the 53-man as well and have months of practice and game snaps under their belts, you could argue WR is oddly a relatively deep position for the Pats heading into Saturday.

BB said in one of his press conferences this year how at this time of the season you basically work with the personnel you have and change what you do as getting anything from new guys is hard as they don't have the foundation you put into place all season. Obviously exceptions (Jackson coming in to play RB) and extraordinary circumstances (all the QBs get hurt or something), but doubt anyone is coming onto the roster to play in a game at WR at this point. They'd just run sets with 1 or 2 WRs if guys start dropping

Why? You're saying there's a 60% chance that one of these reinjures himself? Are you saying doctors didn't clear them or that they cleared them only under team pressure? I agree that some kind of aggravation could happen but 60%?? That's a little Chicken Little, don't you think?

Rotoworld reports that Gronk is again absent from Practice.

http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/5729/rob-gronkowski
To save you the trouble of clicking on the link (and to keep undeserved clicks away), here's Rotoworld's commentary -- which is even worse than the headline:
Rob Gronkowski was again absent from practice Wednesday.
Gronkowski's absence on Tuesday was a mystery, but we now have a pretty good feel of the reason. Patriots RE Chandler Jones was allegedly at Gronkowski's house over the weekend and overdosed on pills, leading to Jones ending up at the Foxboro police department and then the hospital on Sunday. Jan 13 - 12:24 PM
"Pretty good feel of the reason". That's some quality journalism right there!

Aside from the fact that he is not absent from practice, and that they made up the reason why he was absent from practice, it's a good report.

Reiss expects today's injury report to be available around 5 or 5:30.

Probably be one of the most anticipated injury reports in recent Patriots history, up there with that time in last year's training camp when Brady stumbled and all of New England wept.

Again, that post looks blank to me and likely a lot of others.
