A Scud Away from Hell
It's Playoff Game Ball Time!!!

On offense:
  • Solder for keeping Brady upright
  • McDaniel to keep feeding the running backs to get the lead back
On defense:
  • Gilmore for a shutdown performance
  • Patricia for keeping a spy on Mariota to limit his running game
Ignore the Noise. Onto the AFCCG.

Lewis -- 140 plus yards from scrimmage
Amendola -- his most catches ever as a Patriot

Both the offensive and defensive lines. Offense was opening holes and kept Brady upright all game. Not sure what the numbers are, but how many times does a guy throw 50+ times and not get sacked?

Defense made Henry a non-factor and somehow set a franchise record for most sacks in a postseason game.

I'd like to give a game ball to the erection I have for Tom Brady. Figuratively, of course.

+1

They’re unbeatable when the guys in the trenches play as well as they did tonight.

So glad Amendola is on this team. He gets my game ball for a playoff career best 11 receptions for 112 yards.

Everyone.

And I need an update of that stat about wins and losses for a QB that throws the ball 50+ times.

In postseason I think Brady is 6-2, and everyone else is 1-10.

The refs. They blew it early. The Pats talent took over, but the refs robbed the titans of their slim chance.

And Brady. And pretty much anyone else will mention. Great team
Win.

The Declining Tom Brady.

Everyone else. Literally. Everyone else. This was about as classic a Patriot playoff win as you can get. Slow start by the defense until BB figures out what they're doing, adjustments, and then put the foot down and blow them out in all three phases. Pretty much exactly as they probably drew it up.

The lines. Patricia. Scarnecchia.

Sometimes I think some of the coaches get over looked. Patricia addressed a mobile QB, took away the best target in Walker, and shut down the run after the first drive. That's impressive. It's literally Tenn's whole game.

I'm pretty sure Tom Brady will have now played in over a quarter of AFC championship games ever. That's sort of weird.

Great tackling by the defense... at one point Romo mentioned how Tenn only had 30+ yards after catch. (PATS well over 100)

I thought Rowe made some plays tonight.

Danny Amendola for being the most unappreciated receiver that always shows up huge in the biggest spots. I realize that clutch can't be quantified, but Danny Amendola is clutch.

Danny has been worth every dime they’ve paid him and more. Time after time he’s coming up with the big catch. He’s not a fantasy guy or an endorsement guy but shit he delivers when it counts.

They even got in an old-school goal line I-formation, Develin lead block and Bolden running it in.
It looked like a demonstration tape.

Here
Dante. The O line was perfection. And Danny. Oh, I don’t want to slight Tom. You’re in there bud, Mr. MVP.
Looks like they’ll be working with their fourth guy at RT from here on out. So glad Dante came back.

BB, despite doing an epic version of his routine that seemed designed to try to make the reporters swallow their own tongues in some sort of Hannibal Lector manuveur, still went out of his way to absolutely EXTOL Amendola and also Bolden.

I couldn’t help thinking their a couple of the guys expected to be cut each year.

No Patriot Of The Week to the declining, diva-ish, snake-oil promoting "GOAT". If the Pats had kept Garoppolo not only does he get paid for this game but they win by 42 points instead of 21. Brady looks absolutely cooked now and I am not sure they will get much out of him in the first quarter of the AFCG, let alone a Superbowl if they are somehow lucky enough to make it there. Bob Kraft should be ashamed of himself for forcing Belichick to choose this broken down veteran out of sentimentality. Its a good thing they won in spite of TB12's creaky, washed-up ass.

Pulling a small piece of a post I just made from the celebrate thread that relates to tonight's game.

Assuming I am running my pro football reference searches right, no QB other than Brady, since the merger (and likely since forever) has attempted 50 or more passes in regulation in the playoffs and won. Brady has now done it four times.

Tonight was the first time a team has ever attempted 50 or more passes in the playoffs -- in regulation or overtime -- and won by more than six points.

Throwing more than 50 times only happens when you "have to," unless you're Bill Belichick and just don't care.

So rewatching the game as now home and can hear the announcers.

Kickoff at around 915 or so left in the second quarter. Who’s down at the 20 yard line and in on the tackle? Gostkowski.

TEN had the 8th ranked rushing offense in the regular season, and 7th ranked rushing defense. The Pats held them to 65 rushing yards total, with their leading rusher being Mariota at 37 yds, which is just insane. The Pats ran for 100 yds, averaging 3.7 npc, which isn't terrible against a stout front. But perhaps most important of all, TEN came in ranked last in the league for defensive DVOA against RBs in the passing game, and Lewis/White had 13 catches for 118 yards. Took away the things they were good at, and exploited the things they were bad at. Just perfect.

Also, it's insane that Cooks/Hogan had 4 catches for under 40 yards, and yet we won so handily. Amendola deserves a game ball just for that, along with Lewis, and the lines.

Out of curiosity, what was the personnel formation?

@Delonte James Jr.
23! No WRs in on the play, naturally. Develin and Bolden the backs, in a triple Jumbo: Hollister-Gronk-OL-Allen. Previous play was actually in double jumbo 22 with Allen-OL-Gronk, only WR was Cooks on a curl. That's some old school fun right there.

As for me? That's tough given, as mentioned, this was a total team victory. But, given he came up when needed most again, and rather unexpectedly, give me Amendola. Time after time proved he is a beast when facing a soft zone. Came up with so many critical receptions on various routes, in high leverage situations early on, and continued to do so. Crazy stuff, great to watch. When he caught that circus ball from Brady at a 30-degree throw angle (NFL Statcast!) I think encapsulated his excellent night pretty effectively.
