The Other Grid Game... Crossover Grid

I felt Crossover Grid deserved it's own thread. It's very similar to Immaculate Grid, however some of the stat categories are a bit more intriguing. For example, yesterday's MLB grid featured Players managed by Dusty Baker and the other day there was a square for pitchers with 1+ HR. Another cool twist here for those not already aware, our own @Brand Name had a hand in developing this. Here's the link for those needing to fit a whole new set of grid games into their daily routine.
https://crossovergrid.com/mlb

Add to this, yesterday I felt I had a slam dunk low point scorer for the Red Sox-Marlins square and found out the hard way that Anibal Sanchez never throw a pitch for the Sox before he was traded as part of the Josh Beckett, Mike Lowell deal.

I like this one way better. Super fun category. Somehow yesterdays "people managed by Dusty Baker" had Darren Lewis at only 4%. There were children named after their relationship for christ's sake!

I don't want to discuss the Immaculate Grid today... too many squares with no more than 5 correct answers. However, the Crossover Grid was fun today. I always like it when I can select all-time greats for less than 0.25% and I did it twice on this one (I started to say Hall of Famers, but... well).

Agreed on this. I wish you could click through CG to see all the correct answers like with IG but since they're not owned by BBReference I understand why that's not happening. 9/9 score of 73.68. So apparently a higher score is better on this game?

I'm not sure how many of you do the football grid. I'll occasionally take a stab at it, though admittedly if I get 5-6 right it's an extremely good day. In yesterday's grid, lower right I correctly guessed OJ Simpson (I think it was 1000+ yards rushing and 1st team All Pro) and the pic used for Simpson had me giggling like a 10 year old.

I guess the player doesn't have to have accomplished the feat with the team listed? Yesterday's NBA grid has Dallas Mavericks/2x NBA Finals Champion as one of the squares, which is interesting because the Mavs only have one championship.

I like this one a lot more than Immaculate Grid. It’s also a much cleaner experience on mobile IMO. I also like how it shows where you rank amongst others.

Best score so far. Managed to avoid picking any most popular for the first time in a while. Dodgers somehow were my trouble spot.

Now we're talkin' – 5.04 / 161st. Bill Robinson was a guess, but for some reason, I can guess correct answers on this grid, while I'm usually wrong when I have to guess on the other one.

I knew the switch hitter column would be my downfall. I just learned that Willie "Where would we play him?" McGee only played for four teams.

The ol' Steve Pearce grid. I'm assuming that the playoff shutout didn't have to come with the team listed, because the top choice for the Sox box is Curt Schilling who threw two CG SHO in the post-season, but neither was for the Red Sox. I went for purity with my Sox pick and perfection (or nearly so) with the other two.

Finally achieved my first ever complete Red Sox grid, including the IG. with a score of 66.08. Bottom right was a guess for the playoff shutout. There were easy choices, but I was determined to use all Sox Players. There might have been other scoring options had I not committed certain players to other squares.

Damon 16% Pearce 3.4% Hill 0.66%
Wells 1.1% A. Miller 8.5% Boddicker 0.59%
Clemens 33% Lonborg 1.8% Tiant 0.14

Got my lowest ever score for either grid today. Got 7 players quickly, the 8th took a little thought and the last took a lot of thought. 9/9...Score 23.88... 2 Red Sox. I think this is the first day I've completed both the IG and the CG.

First time not going 9 for 9 on this game. Home runs in MLB debut is a cruel category. I got one out of the three with a total shot in the dark guess who turned out to be the top choice for two of the three slots.

Yeah, I wouldn't normally post a 7/9, but considering I could only think of 3 guys I knew had homered in their debut and only one fit the grid, I'm completely happy with that. Two things of note: I'm surprised Hector Villanueva wasn't higher. He had a short and forgettable career, but Harry Caray sort of made him more famous than he really was by coughing out his name. On the other hand, I can't believe 1.4% of people said Joe Orsulak... I couldn't even remember his name and had to type the first letter of his last name and keep changing the second letter until it showed up in the list.

Yeah I agree that HR in major league debut is a bit too esoteric for this game; I almost didn't bother playing today for that reason. With that said, I misunderstood and thought that the player had to have done it with that team; if I had known that wasn't the case I would have probably gone with Cabrera. 7/9, I did get bottom right because for some unknown reason I did remember that Benny Ayala homered in his first AB.

Likewise - I didn't even bother finishing this one. I feel like there's a fine line between "here's a hard one that may or may not be in the recesses of your mind" and "guess a player at random and we'll tell you if it's right."

Obviously, it's early in the day, but I'm posting my #17 rank while I can still show it off...

I'm not in the same class as the best players here but I'm pretty happy with this one. 9/9 36.59.
But I really wanted to point out that it's a crime how low my bottom right is (and surprising how high my bottom center is).

However temporarily, I have the Number One grid:

70272

In IG, I’m starting to feel like I’m just repeating myself, so things like the Ichiro row are helpful in that regard.

Bouncing back after missing 9/9 two days in a row. Took a real shot in the dark on the center square. I knew he came back to the Yankees late in his career and hoped he overlapped with Ichiro and he did. In the top 50 for the moment, but I doubt that lasts.

Ok, the numbers here don't add up. 7 of my 9 squares are 1% or less and none are over 3%. Every square has a "most popular" answer of at least 30%. 44% had the same Astros/150 steals guy. Yet I'm only 103/188? That makes no sense. It isn't mathematically possible.

103/188 is your rank against everyone else who has completed the grid so far. As in you are 103rd place out of 188 with your 203.88 score. But yeah, that 203.88 score makes no sense given your selections. You should have 10ish points, not over 200.

I understand that the 103 is my rank, but that's not possible. If 44% of the people playing gave the same answer to one square, just that one answer would put their score higher than mine. 44% of 188 is roughly 85 people. 188-85 = 103. So I came in dead last of the people who DIDN'T answer that one guy? Doesn't make sense.

There was definitely bad math. Go back and refresh if you have to. It should update, I hope.
