That's not a high bar to cross. I'd give his chances against the field at about 1%. He sucks these days.
T11, MC, T2, T35, T40, T31, T45, T42, T9 in his last 9 starts worldwide.

He sucks.

I don't think he'll win against the field though, so I agree with you there.

I'm definitely on Team Spieth. That chip in for par on 10 was so exciting! #GoSpiethGo.

I'm on Team #GoSpiethGo

But a thrilling Sunday wouldn't be a bad thing, so I really, really hope it ends up close.

AGREE.

I plan on watching a lot of golf this weekend and would like to not have to watch the Spieth ballwashing. Nevermind having to watch his boring ass game all weekend.

ABS - anybody but Spieth
Amen, I am on board 100% with this post'

Whoever said a while back that Spieth felt totally manufactured nailed it on the head for me. I'm actually on team Poulter for this - he at least has some personality and flair out there and it'd be cool for him to win an Open.

I would actually be on board with Poulter winning as well. That'd be pretty entertaining to watch on Sunday.

You're right, he's been somewhat resurgent this year, but the T2 at the players is the only impressive result there.

I like Poulter though and would love to see him win.
It seems like the whole drama around losing and then getting his card back gave him a new lease on the game and kicked him in the ass. He did suck something awful the last couple years since the Ryder Cup in 2014 (and he was hurt last year too). I think he's a big underdog here, but I definitely want him in contention on Sunday.

Another guy to keep an eye on that would be a great win would be Gary Woodland. Had some crazy personal tragedy this year and has never seemed to be able to take the next step into that top 40 or so tier of players. He's lurking in the top 10 right now.

Yup.

Poulter is just one of the awesome guys out there. Is he a SOB, sure no doubt about it, but he owns it. And probably one the the best guys to hit a pub with.

I really don't understand the Spieth hate. He's a good guy, loves his family, supports the causes dear to him, and plays phenomenal golf. He's just a bland guy, because he's focused on his game and not the drama. He's not a psycho like Jon Rahm or Bubba. But he is interesting, if you ever hear him in interviews. He's not guarded like Tiger was.

Poulter, on the other hand, is a poser and an ass hole. Sex sells, I guess.

Like you say, he's just a bland guy, but he comes off pretty wooden and boring. All the positives you list are absolutely true of him, but he's like a robot created in a PR focus group. On top of that, the media hyped the shit out of him quick and I think he caught some backlash on it. He's obviously an amazing player, but he doesn't do anything at the top of the game, outside stretches when his putter gets hot. So, I think a lot of fans wonder why he gets so much coverage when DJ or Day or Rory are blasting it forty yards past him and have some personality. That's how the game has been marketed.

I certainly can't speak for everyone and I certainly don't hate him, but I tend to think of him as an (on course) drama queen, which isn't his fault because he tends to get on course coverage more than others. He takes forever to play the ball; asks his caddy a dozen questions or back and forths; and the ball is barely off the face of the club before he has something to complain about. He strikes me as the guy at your local club who's a low single digit and wants to remind you of it when his chip that settled at a foot away wasn't good enough cause he's only tapping in for birdie instead of holing out for eagle.

I understand all of them do this, but he seems to get picked up more on it, in part because he does it more and in part because he gets covered more on course (much like the discussion of penalties being called in on players that have more tv coverage).

But, I also don't think it's entirely inaccurate. Today, he had a two minute conversation with his daddy, swapped clubs a couple times, then hit a long approach from the primary cut and before he finished his swing, he was angrily complaining something like 'I caught a flier lie; I didn't think it was a flier lie; Mike that was a flier', then sees it settled just off the back of the green and proceeded with 'I thought I was out of bounds; it didn't fly as far as I thought; it was a flier lie'.

Again, I get that most of them probably do it, I just think he does it more and it gets picked up more on mic. I completely agree he seems like a good kid, he's obviously very talented, but he just strikes me as a guy it would be annoying as shit to play with. He's not an asshole like Bubba and he's not a douche like Reed, but there's just not a lot particularly like able about him (on course - what you said is certainly true about his off course attributes). And he's kind of been shoved down our throats as the next big thing.

He's top five in GiR and top five in putting. I mean that's being pretty good at something. He's also just about to turn 24.

He's 100th in total driving. Watch out if he ever figures that out

If he wins this week that's three majors before 24.

Exactly. He's totally unremarkable. Except for all those remarkable things he's already done.

Speaking of remarkable... Mark O'Meara. Shot on +11 on Thursday and then came back Friday to shoot an even par 70 in what will likely be his last round in a British Open (they retire former champions exemptions at 60).

Only 8 golfers were ahead of his round yesterday.

He sets the record at 62, which may not even survive the day

Rory hits a gorgeous breaking putt at #2, which inexplicably breaks the other way the last 6 inches and stays out
