tims4twins has an excellent poll for gauging how SoSH thinks it will play out, but I'd like to get a look at how SoSH wants it to play out.

I want them to move into the top 10 to draft either Lance or Fields. I wouldn't trade up for Mac Jones, though I'd be more than content to draft him at #15 if he was there. This roster is loaded. All they need is the next QB, and he's there, I believe, in this draft. Using draft capital to get that guy...well...this is the right time to make that bold play.

If BB is convinced that one of these guys is THE guy, I want them to use the assets (within reason) to trade up. If Atlanta is asking for multiple firsts in future years, no thanks. But I think they can get to 7 reasonably enough.

They'll probably start to progress through their decision matrix once SF picks at 3.

I mean if we're dreaming, I might as well dream that Chris Simms' mock is otherwise perfect & the Patriots trade down to 31 & steal Fields from the hapless Bucs who were waiting to snatch Fields up @ 32, while picking up a 1st & 3rd in 2022.

But yeah, trading something reasonable to get up to 7 & draft Fields/Lance is cool.

Do you guys think that Bill will call Scott Fitterer or Brad Holmes a pancake-eating motherfucker? Or maybe he tells one of the rookie GMs that Bill has a feeling the guy could come out of the draft looking like a donkey if he doesn’t make a deal.

Let it play out for a bit, then move to 7 or 8 and grab Fields.
Ditto. If only Jones is available of the Big 5, they'll sit back and wait to 15. Bill's in GFIFN mode after TB+TB's win, and with a refreshed roster, QB of the future is the only major concern.

Of course, then he'll draft a safety at 15 and make me look like a fool.

While I want Fields I don't really care who they take, so long as its a qb, and they QB passes whatever tests Belichick has.

I voted to move up into the top ten but not to four for a qb. My vote could change depending on who is available after pick 4.

I want the Pats to trade up to #4 because moving up that high probably means Bill/McDaniels fell in love with a guy rather than just picking whoever of the 5 QBs dropped.

This is a tough Q to answer.

I'm voting top 10 not top 4 because I WANT Lance to slide to 7 and the Pats to trade to get him there. But thats a lot of assumptions

Quick aside...had we not loaded up at TE this offseason, there is a not zero chance I would consider "Trade up for someone who isn't a QB," and go after Pitts

I voted trade up to 4 for a QB, but really what I mean is that I want the Patriots to be as aggressive as they need to be to get whoever they think the right guy is. If that's at 4 or 7 or 10 or 15, good. Do it. The rapid reworking of the team we all lost our minds over has got me all fired up--I'm itching for that cherry on top and I won't sweat it if that cherry costs more than it should in a vacuum. Blow my sox off now and I won't complain when the bill comes due later. I don't always feel that way, but this year I do.

I recognize that this emotional decision is one of at least three reasons I'm not running a football team at the level Bill Belichick does, and I'm ok with that. I also recognize that I have the barest fraction of the knowledge of the Pats staff and of so many on this forum, so if this is just not the year we draft our QB of the future I'm not going to second guess that too damn much. But if I had my way and the difference between the package that would land a solid QB and the maximum package we *should* offer is a decent pick a couple of years from now, I say pull the trigger now and let's have some fun.

I think you’re on safe ground here. I can’t imagine BB taking any first round QB he didn’t really believe in. Which is why I’m less freaked about the notion of taking Jones at #15. If they take him, they believe in him.

I want them to go get Fields or Lance, whichever they prefer. Failing that (because it takes 2 to tango and there is a limit to what we can offer) get the BPA at 15 and if JG can be had for something akin to what Bridgewater fetched AND he'll redo his contract, then that's fine. However keeping Cam and taking a flyer on Trask or Mond is also "fine".

But I want Fields or Lance.

Moving up to #7 or #8 to grab Fields by giving up #15 and two 2nds or a 2nd/3rd future 3rd etc is my pipedream

I'd prefer Lance over Fields, ok moving up into the top ten should either one fall outside the top four. If that doesn't materialize I hope they stay at 15 and take the BPA, they have long term needs on the front 7 and in the secondary. Hoping they avoid Mac Jones and Devonta Smith.

There’s too much time waiting for the draft. I’m now fully on the Fields train/whatever qb they deem worthy of a first round pick. What I mean is, draft a qb early because I think they should and I also think it should be Fields.

I’m also intrigued to watch the team building strategy without TFB. Take BB’s previous approach and toss it - this is uncharted territory.

If they really like Fields (or Lance), I hope they go for it. They have too many picks as it is. And it would be nice to have a young QB to root for.

This is exactly how I feel after that crazy free agency period, where many of us wondered if Bill had lost his marbles but were so excited to see all of the great players he acquired.

I don’t know what pick it’s going to take to get the right QB, and honestly I have no idea who the right QB is. But if Bill knows, he better go get his guy. The team is loaded for bear right now, and a brand new young quarterback would just make it that much cooler. In Bill we trust!

I thought BB did a great job of using the resources he had available (okay, money) in the FA period - and I thought he took the position that since his position was fundamentally different than it had been in the past, it was a great time to push all the chips towards the center of the table.

Is 15+, plus a newly-loaded roster, a strong enough hand to get him to push more chips in and moe up? I don't know - I think if pick 1 was 9-11 it would be a clearer proposition.

If there's a non-QB who will make a real difference and be available at 15 (or a few picks early), I think that's how he'll go. But if he likes a QB who's still in at 4, I think he moves up that far. He's been renoing from the joists up already - for example, not one but both of the top FA TEs to recharge an offense that has been unstoppable with multiple high-end TEs. A QB is clearly on the 'to do' list still, and if it's possible to cross that off and then get some youth and speed for the back end of the roster, I think BB does that and calls it a day.

The Pats could always use better players at a number of positions. There's still room on the roster to add quality draftees in a number of spots. But the team is going nowhere with Cam as the QB, when all is said and done. I *have* to believe that BB believes this. So that means that he *has* to get a better QB, somehow. Be it through a trade for JG - who, I get, some here won't think is much of an upgrade, but, yeah he is, even if he might not be enough of one, or drafting a QB and letting Cam be a bridge to the next guy.

Given their situation - financially, roster-wise, etc. - I really believe everything is lined up for Bill to take his shot. Either trade for JG and add other quality pieces so JG has the best roster possible to contend with - which I think would mean the 2021 Pats would be really really good - or do what you have to do to draft the QB you want and let Cam be a one year or half-year bridge to the next guy. This second route may mean fewer wins in 2021 but it would be a better setup long-term. That is, if the drafted QB is actually any good, which as we all know, may not be the case.

But now is the time to strike. Now is the time to roll the dice and make the play. They've never been better suited for it than now. Not quite a Super Bowl contender so you don't HAVE to play for THIS year, but they COULD if they wanted to. They're just well-positioned to make this bold move.

It's probably irrational, but since the OSU/Clemson Playoff Game I've wanted Fields. Preferably he falls to 15 and they don't have to spend additional assets to get him. I'd be willing to trade up to the 7-10 range to get him.

That said, I'm an idiot who wanted them to take David Terrell in 2001 and was unhappy with the Richard Seymour pick.
