This was basically SB42 except without a fluke helmet catch. Nobody lists that one as “boring”. Wonder why.

The deadspin image isn't even from the Super Bowl. Brady is wearing a blue uniform and not the road whites. Looks like it's from one of the AFCCGs at Foxborough in prior years.

My good friend and college roommate (I graduated 30 years ago) is a diehard chiefs fan. He was genuinely nauseous with nerves before the KC/Pats game and texted me good luck. His pregame text was thus: "My ultimate fantasy is for the Chiefs to be as hated as the Patriots outside of New England. I don't see our defense stopping Brady and Edelman, so it's all in the lap of Mahomes to keep up. We shall see..." After the game, I texted him that it was a great game and that if the coin flip had gone the other way, it may have been a Chiefs win. To which he responded: "Yeah, in theory. But when you haven't won a Super Bowl since 1970, it never feels quite as possible as you'd like it to. And if Brady plays until he's 51, he'll just keep standing in the fucking way!"

He's not a hater for hating sake, but out of respect. I enjoyed the 51 comment.

This is Deadspin's editor on Twitter this morning. They are a bunch of snarky pricks. If you're so miserable covering sports, either change your tactics or fucking get out of the business. They went all in on the Pats hate as a business model and now are mad it's bit them in the ass.

You are correct, sir.
This is outstanding:

They’re all happy. The President is happy because he’ll get to “treat” his favorite pet title team to a buffet of White Castle and brag online about how he’s played golf with 60 percent of them. Julian Edelman is happy because he has an MVP and now has license to ride Tom Brady’s coattails all the way to the fucking grave, where he’ll be buried alive alongside him. Gronk is happy because Gronk is always happy and that’s supposed to make ME happy even though his act wore thin 67 injuries ago. He’s now free to retire and go star in direct-to-Netflix chopsocky movies that will prove even duller than what transpired last night. Jon Bon Jovi is happy, which is too bad because his band is fucking awful.

They're gonna ride Magary as far as they can, because they have very little talent elsewhere on that site, particularly after their layoffs. I'm unimpressed with her stewardship. It's obv not the hideous mess it was under Daulerio, but they've been reduced to one note and it's grown old.

Most of the hate and vitriol towards the Patriots on my social media feeds today from friends who are Steeler fans. The fact the "Cheatriots" are even knocking on the door to surpass the Steelers is personal and cuts deep. Anyone else seeing this?

Are they, though? All they really care about are the page views and attention and this is just more grist for the mill for them.
The editor is bitching about how miserable she is because their one-trick hate pony won again. They ran the same story 5 times in a night.

Their quality has really slipped because of this. I have noticed fewer comments on each article than in the past. I don't know about page hits, but the site's gone way downhill.

The Steelers fans' reactions are the most curious. From a lot of what I've read they feel like that they got screwed out of the Super Bowl and would have won it. They seem to not understand the fact that they didn't even make the playoffs. Also they don't seem to understand a team isn't a fantasy football roster.

Also the Patriots are dirty cheaters is always rich coming from the team who built their dynasty on steroids and employs a head coach who tried to trip a player during an actual play.

I'm enjoying all of it.

"Direct-to-Netflix" - Such a dumb take all-around but not knowing how netflix works is pretty mind-boggling
Seriously, Adam Sandler is a direct to Netflix guy now and he's getting paid hundreds of millions of dollars. If only Gronk could do the same, I am pretty certain he'd be happy.

Wut? I will have to peruse some Steeler fan forums today. You would think to feel like you got screwed out of the Super Bowl your team should have at least, like made the playoffs.

Anyway, F all of the haters.

I'm working with a lawyer in NY who is a Jet fan (and actually a really good guy who respects the hell out of BB and TB12). He emailed this to me a few minutes ago: " My son, Kevin, is about to turn 18. His memory of the Super Bowl growing up is that the Patriots have been there half of the time. Remember when it used to be special? Don’t you guys want a return to the years when it was special for a Boston team other than the Celtics to win something? Alright. Congratulations again. Chalk this on up to Tom needs these so his kids will remember when they get older what daddy used to do for a living before he got bald and fat. It got me thinking 'I hereby resign as the HC of the NYJ' is the Jets own curse of the Bambino."

From Florio and Simms (Chris) not the smart Simms.

Paraphrasing from 1:10. "Brady is at the point in his career where he has to be managed by the coaching staff. He threw an INT early and they didn't trust him on 3rd and eight when they ran the football.
It makes you wonder how long Belichick will tolerate having a QB he has to manage around instead of having a gunslinger who can come in and get done.... and who you can trust to throw the ball on 3rd and 8

Honestly, is that just trolling for the sake of trolling? Contrarian for the sake of contrarian? Because if you're supposed to be a football analyst, then saying something this spectacularly stupid should find you out of a job.

I guess when people say "Cheatriots" to Patriots fans it is supposed to make us feel diminished or defensive. The thing is I don't know any serious Pats fans who really think the team "cheated," beyond the technical violation of where the cameras were and trying to keep the psi as close to 12.5 as possible in a warmer room after the balls were rubbed down. So every time someone says something like that I just think they are ignorant.

The thing with all this is fine, Brady made some bad throws and bad decisions over the last several. He also scored a bunch of points on the way to the Super Bowl, had game-winning drives in the AFCCG and Super Bowl. And if BB has to "manage" Brady, what the f would he do with Jared Goff who was completely panicked last night? Or Andrew Luck, who couldn't do a goddamned thing in KC? I mean, if this is the standard they are setting for Brady, what QBs would not have also failed to reach that bar? I'll give you the answer: maybe one - Mahomes.

They always avoid that part of the discussion.

Honestly the Gang Green gamethread is more Stockholm syndrome resignation than pure hate at this point. Here's my favorite quote of the thread: "This SB for Brady was like the one Manning won three years ago vs Carolina. This was all defense and running game for the Pats. Rams were a different team without a healthy Gurley. They use the run to set up the pass. Without Gurley, the offense became too easy to defend."

Yeah, the Rams really caught a tough break when they couldn't dress Gurley.

Last year's Super Bowl represented the new NFL - high-flying, Madden-style offenses that put up pinball-type numbers. The Patriots put up 633 total yards...and lost one of the most electric games in SB history. The Patriots were even lauded in defeat.

This year's Super Bowl represented an old-school, throwback NFL rock fight. Defense. Power running. Pressuring the hell out of the QB. Tough, physical secondary play. Field position game where punting actually *mattered*. The Patriots scored 13 points...and won one of the most "boring" and "ugly" games in SB history. The Patriots are, in many quarters, being piled on even in victory.

Now tell me what franchise, or franchise's fan base, would rather "lose pretty" than "win ugly".

There. Isn't. A. Single. One.

I'll take a 13-3 rock fight win over a 41-33 pinball loss any day of the week, and so would everyone else here, and in every other NFL fan base.

The haters can go suck it.

Gurley was hurt? Who the fuck cares. Nobody cried for the Pats when Edelman was out during last year's SB or Gronk the year before. It's the NFL, injuries happen.

Delicious tears.

January 4, 2000 is a glorious holiday in New England. It commemorates Jets Emasculation Day, when BB infamously scrawled "I resign as HC of the NYJ" on a cocktail napkin. Not even a full-size napkin!!!!

Since that day, the New England Patriots have gone 271-43 and the New York Jets have gone 147-169.

"That and at this point Brady and Belicheck are both selfish a**holes. Seriously both of you do something else with your lives!"

I am sure he will keep tolerating Brady as long as they win. If Brady didn’t give the Pats the best chance to win, he would already be gone.

Edit - just an awful take from guys that never shy away from slamming Brady.

What choice do all of these people have though, really.

Sports -- the pleasure of them when it is not the actual game going on -- depend upon narrative and dialogue, both of which are more compelling when there is not consensus. So we get this, it is as glorious as it could be. Deadspin is doing us a favor: that is some choice crying in the corner right there. I love it.

FWIW - as a Dolphins fan, or as much as someone can be a “Dolphins fan” at this point...This is the first Patriots Super Bowl win where I didn’t really care.
I don’t even know how or why you’d even get worked up at this point, the Pats dominance has been so prolonged and thorough, one single Super Bowl win or lose isn’t going to change anything.
If anything, my major takeaway from yesterday, and what i’ve been most upset about is how awful Jared Goff looked. He’s what made that game unwatchable. And then add some baffling strategic decisions by McVay, and I’m more pissed about the Rams than the Patriots. Especially since Kamara would have caught like 16 zillion passes for 180 gaggillion yards against you guys, in a just world lol

The Pats' running game was awesome during the postseason, make no mistake. And that's exactly how the team should be constructed at this point in Brady's career. But they put up 41 against a really good Chargers' team and 37 on the road in KC. They scored 91 points total (30.3 per game). Brady threw for 953 yards in three games (317.7 per game). He completed 68% of his passes.

In contrast, in Peyton's last ride with Denver, in three games he completed 55.4% of his passes and threw for 539 yards (179.7 per game), and Denver scored 23, 20, and 24 points, and 7 of those came on a defensive score. So the offense scored just 60 points total (20.0 per game).

So yeah, even though the Pats' running game and defense played great, it isn't anything remotely like what Denver did to carry Peyton. Like, not even close.
