Papi and Pedro need our financial support?
Eh. You never know what they can use the MLBPAA for.
See
The vast majority of former big leaguers have gravitated to the Alumni Association, including Hall of Famers, All-Stars, Cy Young Award winners and Gold Glove recipients. Former players hoping to give back to the game find the Alumni Association to be a vital, constructive instrument providing a vehicle for them to be involved in charity and community causes nationwide. Alumni members understand that as one of only several thousand living major league players they belong to a select group that has the unique ability to advance and encourage the sport of baseball and the values associated with the game.

The charitable Swing with the Legends Golf Series has raised more than $75 million, benefiting dozens of charities including Children's Hospital, American Diabetes, Boys and Girls Clubs, Cystic Fibrosis, Special Olympics, Leukemia Society of America, the Salvation Army, Meals on Wheels and Little League Baseball. Organized at some of the country's premier golf courses, the Swing with the Legends Golf Series provides a weekend of fun for participants while benefiting those less fortunate. "As a former player, I can think of nothing we can do with more conviction than to help so many charities and communities throughout the country," said former Cleveland Indians great Jim "Mudcat" Grant. "The golf series provides all of us the opportunity to come together and support many worthwhile causes."

In addition to the golf series the MLBPAA provides, at absolutely no expense to children or their parents, the Legends for Youth Clinic Series. The Legends for Youth Clinic Series combines former Major Leaguers and youth participants on the diamond, giving children an opportunity to acquire life skills and baseball fundamentals from some of baseballs brightest past stars. Over the past five years, the Legends for Youth Clinic Series has reached more than 100,000 children across the country and internationally in countries such as Argentina, Australia, Bahamas, British Virgin Islands, Canada, China, Colombia, Cuba, Curacao, the Dominican Republic, England, France, Germany, Italy, Jamaica, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Panama, Spain, St. Kitts, the United States of America and Venezuela. Commenting on his involvement with the Legends for Youth Clinic Series, Brooks Robinson said, "There is nothing I would rather do than teach someone how to get his glove down or sign an autograph for a young player, it's the least I can do to give back to the game that has given so much to me."

As well as the non-profit missions of the MLBPAA, the organization assists former Major Leaguers through its wholly owned for-profit organizations MLAM (Major League Alumni Marketing). MLAM goals include implementing a player pool and gaining compensation for former players through appearances and endorsements, while protecting the name and likeness of former players from unauthorized uses. Major League Alumni Marketing continues to expand in benefits and opportunities for MLBPAA members.

Excellent find! I signed up.

Just a bit of a heads up for people -- when you register a pledge, an account will automatically be made for you and you will be logged in under that account -- but they never tell you that they are doing this, nor do they tell you what your password is. So you'll need to log out and do a password reset, which requires you to input your username and email address. They never tell you what your username is either (although you can also recover that with a separate function). As it turns out, your username is automatically set as your email address.

So if you sign up for a pledge without making an account first, to set your password do the following:

  1. Log out
  2. Click forgot password
  3. Enter your email address that you pledged under as your username AND your email address
  4. Use the link sent to you in your email to set your password

EDIT: When you sign up, you'll get a welcome email that includes the following tidbit: "We are currently waiting for MLB to provide MLB.tv discount codes. We will be sending you an email once we have MLB.tv updates. "

If you already subscribe to MLB.tv, you may want to put your automatic payment on hold until they send out the discount codes. Not sure if you'll be able to get the discount once your automatic payment is processed, and I wouldn't be surprised if MLB starts auto-renewing people ASAP now that the lockout is over.

The deal is done, but I still cancelled auto renewal on my subscription.

I'm sure MLB will welcome me back before opening day, but commish Rob and the rest need to get some feedback.

Not sure about the MLB Alumni "deal", but the annual Father's Day deal is probably my safety net back if I want back in.

Please revise the title to list all discounts.
Ha. I’m trying to be more concise in my titles. :)
What do I need to set my display settings to so it will fit? I don't see an infinity setting.

Why poke the soxhop nest... do you want to get stung?
It doesn’t bother me. :)

Some of the other discounts seem very interesting as well (like the travel related discounts and the winery/ alcohol related ones)

My MLB.TV had been on auto-renew. I just checked, and it had not renewed for 2022. So I cancelled the renewal, and joined the MLBPAA. In their email they said they are waitnging on MLB.TV codes

I also joined. The MLB.TV discount makes it worth it as others have mentioned. I don't have cable so should help with the MLB.TV/Express VPN package I have to spring for this year.

Probably worth noting if you have T-Mobile, they've had a free MLB.TV offers for their Tuesday giveaways for the last like...4-5 years or so. No idea if it'll happen again this year but keep an eye out.

The annual subscription (which I would pay anyways) is about $125. So about $62 dollars saved.
Thanks. So, a total savings of $37. for me. May not be worth it, since I wouldn't be able to watch the Sox in real time. If they ever drop the black-out, I'd be thrilled to pay full price for mlb.tv.

For the last couple years I've traded Amazon gift cards for folks' t-mobile mlb codes, which was basically spending $5 on a mlb.tv sub, but decided to go this route for a couple reasons: 1) for the t-mobile thing to work you have to give a stranger access to your mlb account which always feels dodgy, 2) no spring training games. It is really worth the price discrepancy for spring training? Probably not, but this year in particular I'm yearning for baseball so being able to watch real, live red sox games starting tomorrow appeals mightily.

Wife and I also use a few of the other products/services listed so we may get some extra mileage out of it. Appreciate the tip!

I did the MLBPAA thing for a couple of years, just to save the 50% off of MLB.TV. But the last 3 years I've bought the T-mobile free MLBTV thing from people on reddit/ebay etc. for like $5-$10. Hoping they do it again this year.

What I've done in the past is set up a separate MLB account specifically for this purpose. I have my own domain so last year it was something like redsox2021@mydomain.com (but could just as easily be done with Gmail or whatever).

No problem sharing a dummy account with someone to set me up with the T-mobile deal, but most of the time they end up just sharing the T-mobile sign up link/code with me directly and it still works.
