I don't understand why there would be any connection between Fournette and Butler. Free agents act in their own best interest.

The only thing I want out of a Malcolm Butler movie is to find out what happened with the SB against the Eagles. I cannot believe there isn't more to that story than a football decision by BB, but the fact that it hasn't leaked from anywhere may seem to indicate that's exactly what it was.

I understand he had a poor week of practice, so PART of it was no doubt cloaked in "football-related," BUT: He got in a fight w one of the D coaches before the game. That's why he was benched.

EDIT: I remain convinced that if BB went to him at halftime and said, "GET THE HELL OUT THERE AND HELP," Butler would've gone out onto the field and played like his hair was on fire, and the Patriots would've won. That's my guess, anyway. It's ridiculous that he didn't play at all, especially as the situation grew more dire by the drive.

The fight was rumored; never confirmed. He had a shitty AFCCG performance, followed that with a bad case of the flu and a bad week of practice, with some missed practices as well. So it may very well have been 100% a football decision.

Agree that it was a mistake to not put him in at DB at some point. Doubt we'll ever know the reason why, but sometimes games do get away from the coaches.

Or maybe he was acting like an asshole who deserved a benching and couldn’t be relied on.

I think if there’s one thing about Malcolm Butler that we’ve learned is that he has elite or near-elite talent but also some undefined personal issues that have prevented him from consistently realizing that talent. It was why he didn’t go to a top program and why he ended up being a UDFA. It was the reason he abruptly retired. And it’s most likely at least part of the reason why he was benched in the Super Bowl.

It’s sad, honestly, because who isn’t rooting for the guy after what he did and where he came from? Which is partly why, even if I suspect it’s a long shot, it would be so awesome if he came back to where it all started and had success.
