Everyone on the team should be given a pair of "Mr. #1derful" trunks to wear for tomorrow night's game.
Up to 1 out of 17 nowFor best record, 1 of 18 outcomes needed. 5.5% of outcomes needed.
Up until last week my wife had never seen this....the...O-need-ers?
Meant to put it there actually. Was going back and forth.This is the Magic Number thread.
Take your comparison act to the Best Team Ever thread.
OK. Now they need 1 of 13 remaining outcomes. 7.7% of remaining outcomes.For best record, 1 of 18 outcomes needed. 5.5% of outcomes needed.
Technically correct. But I think the thread has moved towards "magic number of victories needed to emerge as the best and winnest damned team in all of baseball for 2018!"Thinking more about this...isn't it actually:
Twenty two? Magic number is wins by Sox or losses by opponent.
So 11 Sox wins would also mean opponent losses...the magic number is 22.
Not in the playoffs.Thinking more about this...isn't it actually:

This is like the Bruins countdown in 2011 on the Bruins playoff thread. Hope it ends the same way.11 10 9

Basically, it doesn't matter how many games Los Angeles or Milwaukee win or lose, the "magic number" stays the same - the only thing that matters is Red Sox wins. Right now there would be a corresponding Houston loss, and (hypothetically, hopefully) in the World Series a corresponding Los Angeles or Milwaukee loss (and during the World Series, one could theoretically count 8->6->4->2->0), but for right now "10" is flat-out wrong, as discussed just a few posts up from yours.2. The only losses that matter for any given team are the ones that happen in the series that they are involved in. And since that corresponds 1 to 1 with wins, it is not meaningful to double count. In other words, for the Sox in the ALDS, the only losses that help the Sox are Yankee losses. Houston sweeping Cleveland does nothing to advance Boston towards the World Series.
and that makes it so?--->

Well, uh, yes? I’m not sure how this is difficult to be honest.and that makes it so?
